I don't think you get the full TCM lineup, but check out Film Struck. It's a partnership between TCM and Criterion Collection -- I think it's $10/mo for a curated rotating collection of films. You can add access to Criterion's full catalog for a bit more. Or better yet, if you have an academic in your family they might get free access to Kanopy. It's got an amazing selection of "educational" films, meaning anything that might be taught in a classroom. This means it's got killer sections of art house, independent, foreign, classics, and they seem to license much of the Criterion catalog as well.

Starling, to answer your question the new Halloween was pretty solid. The tone is quite good and harks back to the vibe of the original (it sure helps that Carpenter himself scored this one). Even the opening credits felt like a homage to those from the first movie. Jamie Lee Curtis is great as always, and the actress who plays her granddaughter was quite good too and more likable than I surmised from the trailer. Some of the kill scenes are quite brutal and really well orchestrated, and the final confrontation doesn't disappoint.
Here's a minor spoiler, so stop reading now if you don't want to know too much before seeing the new Halloween: my main criticism is about something incredibly boneheaded/unbelievable that one of the characters does at some midway point in the film, which basically serves a dual purpose: to retrospectively account for Michael Myers escaping from jail at the beginning and to set up said final confrontation. I think there could have been a much more elegant and less credulity-stretching way to serve those 2 narrative purposes, but fortunately the story doesn't hinge on this development too much, so in the end it didn't ruin the movie for me. It did take me out of it for a minute when it happened though. Other than that unfortunate misstep, I think fans of the franchise will be very happy with this new installment.

TCM had a Hayworth head toss last night and I forgot all about Halloween! Okie

First unofficial Halloween 2018 topic for debate: Quickie or Longie?

The Fearless Vampire Killers: Looked a bit like Hammer, though smelled a lot like bad cheese. Watched it with some friends tonight that have TCM. MacGowran couldn't save it for me. It was pretty to watch, and I bet a full Panavision screen would make it more enjoyable. I think the poster has surpassed the movie. Okie

And yet it's one of my top 5 films of all time... just shows.

If you went in expecting Hammer I can see how you'd be disappointed. It's really more in the vain of Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein or modern horror comedies.
I've watched these over the last few days....
House 1977
The Fly 1958
Night of Terror 1933
-
Never seen Night of Terror in years, must dig that one out..
To add to my list :-
Giant Claw
Zombies of Mora tau
Creature with the Atom Brain
Heredity
Madhouse
Murders in the Rue Morgue 71
The Mummy 32
Mummy's hand
Finishing the Mummy series over the week, and will see where to go after that..

Hi Harry, Nah, I wasn't expecting Hammer as I knew it was a parody. The camera work was very good and reminded me of some great Hammer shots. I guess it just didn't hold up over time in the story for me. Maybe it's like Monty Python when I watch it now. I remember falling out of my chair laughing when I first saw Python in the 1970s as it was so fresh and irreverent. Now, it's more like a chuckle, though it was genius when it first came out. A lot of derivatives since then etc. Okie

Last night's Halloween treat:
Great cast, some of the actors were still up an coming, career-wise (Amy Irving, John Travolta etc). And Piper Laurie, as Carrie's mom, Mrs White, is just incredible!
CARRIE (1976)

Cross-posting for the All Hallows:
My friend, Charlie, and I both loved the original 1936 The Walking Dead starring Boris Karloff. We both wanted this lobby card, and I'm sure glad Charlie ultimately decided to chase some other nice paper that day! I'm going with the movie was initially released on Leap Day (pretty cool) February 29, 1936, by Warner Brothers (sources list Febuary 29, March 1, and March 14). It looks like reviews started showing up in early March 1936. Happy Halloween & Samhain (my Celtic brothers and sisters!). Okie

Late last night's watch was FRIGHT NIGHT devil 2
Good fun... and so 80s, too.

Last night... the 2006 remake of THE HILLS HAVE EYES
Pretty meh, imho. I liked the original from '77 better.

The Hills have Eyes (2006) is pretty good, IMO.
I watched Carrie (2002) for 20 minutes, turned it off, and watched the original. Brian de Palma, Sissy Spacek, etc. are star.gif star.gif Much better, and spookier. devil 2

I have been slacking this year. Too much travel during the month to find time to watch and to keep track of everything... I know I saw these, but I'm sure I missed a few more:
Curse of Frankenstein
Horror of Dracula
The Mummy
Chopping Mall
Lost Boys
Bloodsucking Bastards
