Stunning posters, Jerome.
-
Nice stuff. I'm especially fond of Brute Force. Is that René Lefebvre?
T
-
Also, your Belinsky's Walk Softly Stranger reminds me of my Soubie's Kiss of Death. Check the cars on the side :) Both were made in 48.

Ive always really liked this image. So visually powerful (and beautiful), for the time it was created. thumbsup.gif

Great posters - they all have that same mean and moody look. Great artwork - love 'em!

Fantastic, Jerome... And I have to say, Im really liking this one. I really like and enjoy Paul Muni. I can see the artist's name in the lower right, but cant make it out. What is the name? And this looks like a first release, too. That old style WB logo is incredible.

Oh, I say...!
A mighty first impression sir. They are lovely.
Who is the artist for Strangers in the City? And indeed, what is the painting process or paints that offer such vivid colours?
Utterly splendid sir. Thanks for sharing.
-
dayamn there are so many cool posters in this thread!
-
Jerome, what size is this poster? The reason Im asking is I see all the fold lines..typically much more than would be found on a 1P (47x63 inch) poster. Is it a 2P? (Or even larger??) And it looks to be by Soubie? thumbsup.gif
I really like this... great imagery.

This is all great stuff, I especially love Woman in Hiding and Phantom Lady. Even though technically a film noir and therefore outside of my collecting scope, I've been looking to acquire that last poster because the French title "Les mains qui tuent" and the artwork are more indebted to horror imagery than usual for the genre.
I can't wait to see more of your collection, everything you've posted so far has been excellent.
-
Hi guys
Glad to get some questions about those posters!
Simes
You're welcome. Constantin Belinsky design this small Walk softly stranger. It's a very beautiful artwork isn't!?
All of this poster or printed in lithographie...that why we have such vivid colors!
Jeff
Yes this poster is usually seen in the 47x63 size...But this is the 4 pannels...240x320cm (94x126) This is very huge high quality lithographie by Roger Soubie.
Benjamin
Thanks a lot! if you want buy a french phantom lady. I thinks ciné-image-paris is selling a linenback copy in this moment.
-
Thanks for the Phantom Lady recommendation from Cine-Image, but I'd rather get an unbacked copy, so I'll wait until I find one.

Many thanks. They are just lovely.
Must admit to never having heard of Belinsky. Indeed, as a Bond fan, I have only really heard of Boris Grinsson, of whose I have two posters framed and displayed. These being from Dr No and From Russia with Love.
But I do love this stone lithography work.
-
Belinsky was mostly famous with his work during the 50/60's. But his best creation was during the 40's!
This artist is not to be confounding with Boris Bilinsky. Artist fruitful in the 20's who made the 2 panel of Metropolis!

I really like Soubie's Mélodie en sous-sol. It's great that Audiard managed to get his name as big as Verneuil. I need to get myself one. Bonneaud's L'araignée is great too.
Some really good stuff in this thread. Not a fan of Belinsky, unfortunately. I don't like his style and own very few pieces of his.

you are really posting lots of great posters Jerome. I took a quick look at your site also, though it's a little difficult for me in French.
I wonder what original Mabuse stuff you have or any of my Raymond Chandler titles

yeah.. that's the irritating part....

Jerome, all your photos are really nice. With French 1Ps being more large, how do you photograph them? Do you lay them on the floor? Or hang them up?

You guys both do a great job taking photos of your posters. They look great. sm1

Thanks Jeff
Here is a few for today...
-
Just took a look at your website, Jerome, very nicely set out, the posters speak for themselves to those of us with only schoolboy French.
As a James Cagney fan, it was nice to see your poster for Picture Snatcher - never seen that one before, really nice.
-
Many thanks Martinc.
I am glad that the french language of my blog is not a language barrier even if it's not ideal for all of us!
-
Heureusement, un site en langue française ne posera jamais de problème pour moi! ;)
I like that Du Rififi chez les Hommes one, that graphic treatment screams 1950s France!

Thanks for sharing your collection of great French posters. Really nice quality on the pictures, too. That's one of the best images of Burt Lancaster I've seen in quite awhile!

Beautiful and more incredible artwork on these, Jérôme. clap clap
Who is the artist who did La Proie?
-
La proie/Cry of the city Art by Roger Soubie...Extremly rare!
-
Beautiful. And looking again, I think I see his signature, in red, in the far upper right corner?
-
Yes that's it
-
Love, love, LOVE all of them Jerome! You can't go wrong with Grinsson, Soubie and Mascii. Congrats!!!
Your holdings makes me want to collect more film noir posters, especially French paper. I have a few titles, but the focus of my collection is almost exclusively horror and sci-fi-fi. But if I were to expand the scope of my collection, I would definitely go into film noir, as there are some truly stunning pieces.
-
Love Grinsson's work.
Am sounding like a broken record with these oft repeated statements, but there we go..
