Title: Wiz of OZ autographs...
Post by: erik1925 on October 06, 2014, 12:32:03 AM
A group of alleged, original autographs, verified by an organization called UACC, (according to the seller) from members of the cast of The Wizard of Oz, sold for $1575.00.

Jeff the UACC is highly regarded, with strict codes. If a member sells a fake, they are out.  You can check the the membership number to see if the seller is the actual one registered.  If buying signatures, it's the best way to be covered, as they also have a life-time money back guarantee on everything the members sell. Without checking, the signatures were most likely correct.

Thank you!  ;)

As mentioned in the thread about the Lion's costume, the Hollywood Museum in the old Max Factor building in Hollywood has, I believe, autographs from all of the Oz cast as well. Ground floor in the back.

This museum has a treasure trove of goodies, props, wardrobe and memorabilia. Its worth visiting if anyone is ever in LA/Hollywood. And the building itself is very cool, with its deco design and architecture.

Not that it's Garland or Bolger or anyone like that, but I was very lucky to have met two of the Munchkins, Jerry Maren and Margaret Pelligrini. I think Maren is still alive. I have an autographed photo. I also have one from Pelligrini (who died in 2013), but more precious is the photo I have with her. Dressed in a mock up of the costume she wore in the film, here I am kneeling down and she is hugging me. She kept saying she was so cold and I was so warm. I love that photo. It was so surreal to be embracing a real live "Munchkin"!

Thats such a great picture, MAGG.

AS they say, a photo is worth a 1000 words... how great that you got to meet them both!

Great picture, Shawn.
I met Pellegrini at one of the local Oz Fests in Chittenango, NY, L. Frank Baum's birthplace, but I didn't get to hug her (you lucky stiff).
Chittenango is a few miles down the road and they have an annual birthday celebration / parade.
Jerry Maren has made it here in the past, but his age and health probably preclude him from further participation.
Sad that they are all disappearing into history.

Hi Jeff and Ted. Thanks for the notes.

Ted, I never realized Baum was born in New York. I'd have guessed somewhere in the Midwest, somewhere like, well, Kansas.

I have seen Baum's grave though. It's in the Forest Lawn cemetery in Glendale (there are several Forest Lawns in the LA area).

Glad you got to meet Pelligrini yourself. No one else will ever have the chance to now.

I'm at work right now (SHH! Don't rat me out...)

Gotta run.

CHEERS!
