Happy March!
So how about that OSCARS debacle? Ha! Can you imagine being in LA-LA LAND's place, give your acceptance speech...and then have it all snatched away? OUCH! But that was sooooo LAST month. It's MARCH! Spring should be just around the corner (I, for one, am so OVER the rain here in California). Here's a sample from the March 1st post on my thread. These are not the best nor the worst of the lot. Take a peek or don't.
ONE CRAZY SUMMER:

Have a fantastic March and good luck collecting!
CHEERS!

I like the first one of the bikini babe on the jetty, and of the girl catching crabs
The last one (Bond) looks a bit in the style of a Ghanian poster

All we need is the rice bag! :D

STEVE and JEFF---HA!!! Very right on and funny. I have two Ghanian posters...and, for this poster, you are unfortunately CORRECT. The art is a tad neater---but it's totally in the Ghanian style. LOL. CHEERS!
-
Always liked the One Crazy Summer poster. I actually picked up my copy back In 1986. Man, how time flies. waiting1
And here in So Cali, it's still February. Is it different up there in north Cali, Shawn? ;D
Or maybe that last mai tai did the trick. verydrunk.gif

JEFF Zowie! That's 31 years ago. CRAZY! How is THAT possible? Good pick up tho. Back then, i am sure it was a LOT more reasonably priced...

It was a freebee rescue from the pile that would have gone to the trash.

Even BETTER! Ha!
-
So true!
Things were tossed out left and right... and i couldnt stand to see that. So I took stuff, when I could (and asked if I was allowed to), whether I liked the posters or not.
Sure better than them going to the dumpster.

You always post interesting paper! the colors are awesome on that poster Team!
Picked up the 3 sheet finally. Always wanted this one and like Ted's story I just stumbled into after giving up.
The planets aligned and that made this an easy decision since it was local and already framed. (Plexi)

Wow!! Way to go, Jason. woohoo
That is some Star alignment, no doubt about it.
Congrats on snagging this.
-
I've got a copy of that One Crazy Summer as well Shawn, always loved the illustration. I think we do share at least half a brain...either that or we went to different schools together ;D
I keep telling my kids if they keep making strange faces that they're going to stick like that one day, but they never seem to believe me...

JASON--SUPER SCORE! I am no STAR WARS fan, but appreciate the posters. I'd never seen the 3 sheet before--AMAZING! And the fact that it seems to have come all but gift wrapped is super double awesome! The Force was with you. Ha!

THANKS TOB YOU ARE A BLEEDING STAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hehehe, anytime! It looks great! Really vibrant.
Jason - that SW 3 sheet is excellent, very cool indeed.
-
well recently ive picked up a couple of items ive wanted for a while.
lets start with this
(http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah159/teamweaponss/IMG_1391_zpsryvjm5cu.jpg) (http://s1379.photobucket.com/user/teamweaponss/media/IMG_1391_zpsryvjm5cu.jpg.html)
this has been on my want list for quite some time, but i cant help thinking that i over paid for it? its about as good condtion as i have seen this in but even so im a CHEAP SOB to the bone!!!! haha
it does need a little TLC to bring out the best in it, but ill get round to that in time.
this evil dead has also been on the radar for a few years. i did NOT over pay for it :D
(http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah159/teamweaponss/IMG_1388_zpsisugjbla.jpg) (http://s1379.photobucket.com/user/teamweaponss/media/IMG_1388_zpsisugjbla.jpg.html)
wanted this quad since before it was released as i know the guy that did the art for it. only trouble was there were not too many of these floating around when it was on the cinema and they tended to be more than i wanted to pay. eventually i did get one for an ok price. as a side note the french poster for sight seers also used artwork by my friend that was rejected in the UK. the only way he found out it had been used in france was because i told him!! and he never even got this quad for AFIE!
(http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah159/teamweaponss/IMG_1419_zpskrvhg5uj.jpg) (http://s1379.photobucket.com/user/teamweaponss/media/IMG_1419_zpskrvhg5uj.jpg.html)
same story with this too, it always went for more than i wanted to pay. typically the week after i got this another went up on ebay and went for less than half what i had just paid! pffff TYPICAL!
(http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah159/teamweaponss/IMG_1431_zpss5wyidve.jpg) (http://s1379.photobucket.com/user/teamweaponss/media/IMG_1431_zpss5wyidve.jpg.html)

i dont know anything about this movie, but i think i will track it down to watch. i think it pushes french posters into the country with the most different sizes in that i know of? its sort of a 1 sheet ish 24x36" size? this and i also saw [but didnt get a vertical double panel poster which looked amazing but also looked like too much of a pain the ass to be bothered with]
(http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah159/teamweaponss/IMG_1398_zpsoheq9f92.jpg) (http://s1379.photobucket.com/user/teamweaponss/media/IMG_1398_zpsoheq9f92.jpg.html)
this movie is amazing, although i dont really know how often this french half panel turns up? curiously the only other poster this size i have is also for a japanese movie? wonder if its related?
(http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah159/teamweaponss/IMG_1394_zpsjdjldypc.jpg) (http://s1379.photobucket.com/user/teamweaponss/media/IMG_1394_zpsjdjldypc.jpg.html)
just a normal sized grande, but a great image! i always think to myself i buy too many french posters but with shipping from the US being SOOO expensive and french posters you can find cheap, its hard to say no a lot of the time!

this is my first piece for this movie, i have wanted the italian poster for it for a while, but so far no luck :( but this will do nicely thanks. the other french mediums were mostly to make the shipping more bareable, they fulfilled thier roll WELL

I am not sure about the artwork, but I do have the Italian 2 Folio for it, that has extremely similar artwork. So I am wondering if it was based off the Italian art work?
-
Thought not identified, I wonder if it is the exact artwork that was used on your Italian 2F poster, Mike, as well as the locandina? Looking closely at the group of zombies and building, they almost do not look re-drawn, but it's hard to tell for sure. Th sky and water look to have been a bit retouched on the Thai poster.
Nice haul, once again, too, Sean.

by jove i think you are correct! i found a higher res copy online and compared the 2. the only difference i can see is that mine appears to have the initials HH or HM on the zombie with the cross on its back. which could be the artist that chucked the poster together maybe???
-
Which zombie has the cross/letters on its back? I'm probably looking right at it.. but where in the group is he?
-
in general I agree, but in this case, I think the snipe adds something to it
sm1 That extra touch of history and when it was used and displayed.
Very cool poster. I'd be happy to have this copy, too.
-
Thanks to Jason E for my Lost in Translation O/S - really happy with it and one i was after for a while :)

3 more to my 50s/60s Sci - fi collection, not valuable posters but pretty cool all the same.

Just curious about the Clan of Cave Bear OS you posted. I always thought the teaser OS was the one without any credits? Or are there a couple styles of teaser?

Nice pickups, Ted.
I have a couple of scene cards for Little Egypt, but your title card puts them to shame. I never saw that one go by, which likely avoided a war.
I got sniped out of several items last night. Thought I had comfortable margins and it was as high as I would have gone anyway. One frustration with Peter's auctions is that he hides the bid history once the item closes. I'd really be interested in knowing whether I was sniped by someone I was bidding against or by a new player.
Still, I managed to pick up several nice cards, including these

Congrats on snagging them. cheers

Chris, I love this!
-
Also, Aliens daybill arrived a few days ago. Wish this version had the "This time it's war" tagline, but still love this one.
-
That's a daybill?
Looks a little wide.
-
Hmm, maybe because of the frame? Poster is 13.25" wide I think.
-
I think the angle of the pic makes it look wider, too.
-
Big thanks jayn and Ted.
Ray, that daybill looks awesome framed. Awesome job.
-
Wondering how tall is this daybill? It doesn't look right to me either?! Though I have seen photos that squash vertically.
Liking the Little Egypt Ted
-
The wide, white border on the daybill, along with the black frame also are adding to the illusion. The Robt Burton printer's info sure looks the same, too.
Looks mighty fine, Ray. Nice score.

cheers
-
Thanks guys. It's justttt over 26" high. I took it on a bit of an angle to avoid the glare at the time of day. Guess that threw it off haha.
The daybill size is great though. I only have room to display a few one sheets, so I will have to look at getting more of these.
-
Oh, I must be used to seeing the older, longer daybills
-
Oh, I must be used to seeing the older, longer daybills
Aren't the US inserts 36" high? Or did the aussie ones used to be higher?

OOoooo. Me like. Me want one. VERY nice.

Someone on the board was nice enough to reach out and sell their rolled F13 to me. (After reading about the confusion and back and forth I had with movieposter.com)
Anyways, thanks so much! This was always the first original poster I wanted to get.

Yee-haa, good on you, congratulations. And great the member here helped you out.

Way to go, Ray! thumbsup.gif
And kudos to the member that reached out and sold your their copy, too. clap clap

Had this arrive today -- and from Germany.
A German A1 for Squirm (1976)
This was one I always liked, art-wise, and it also being earlier work by Drew Struzan is a plus. It's interesting to see how his style changed and developed in the following years. And the German poster shows a bit more of the original artwork at the top, even though the title the title is laid over it. Other posters, including the US OS, have cropped a bit of the sky and tree along the upper edge of the art.

Nice one, JEFF. Of COURSE "SQUIRM" is on my radar. Although it's not on my thread (I don't think), I've long had a SQUIRM poster (OS) as well. The German one is nice---as you said, the artwork is more fully shown thank on the OS. Ye Gods! THAT'S Struzan? He really HAS come a long ways...
Congratulations RAY STENSEN on getting the poster you wanted most of all.
CHEERS!
-
Jeff, thanks for bringing the existence of this one to my attention. The art is crazy. So good.
-
Thanks gents, and Jay, here's hoping you find and snag a copy soon. And the cool thing is that, like he still does now, this art is signed. His signature ("drew") is on the red tendril or tree root, just above the head of the upward looking figure furthest to the right.

Sweet, Ray. Congrats on the find!

Love that Egyptian, linen-backed and all.
Congratulations!

Not been on the forum for a while so just wanted to make a post, share a few recent purchases. Nothing really valuable but as part of my collection I collect the best of the recent UK Quads (best in my opinion) for cult classics, rereleases and specialist films. These are some recent ones that I required and some of my favourite Park Circus Quads from the last few years.
First up is this Park Circus UK Quad for the rerelease of David Bowie's The Man Who Fell To Earth. I really love this poster.
Next up is this great BFI UK Quad for the rerelease of the classic Goodfellas.
This is on really nice thick paper too.
Next up is this one for the 2016 rerelease of Ghost In The Shell (Manga). Again a really nice beautiful poster and again on thick heavy paper.
Next is the UK Quad for the second poster in the Jodorowsky trilogy, "Endless Poetry". Truly fantastic poster in person and again on thick heavy paper. (I was lucky to pick up two copies of this).
Also recently picked up the Park Circus UK Quad for the rerelease of The Manchurian Candidate couple of years ago I think it was.
Also another Park Circus poster is this one - rerelease of Some Like It Hot
(https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/c6/2d/08/c62d082692b8b7198f5d65e31d138406.jpg)
This is one of my favourite Park Circus posters for Funny Face
(https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/34/1f/c9/341fc959bf34acfe9d705db418bd7638.jpg)
Finally, I know you are all familiar with this one. No introduction necessary.

As some of you may know I collect Park Circus posters but they are so bloody hard to get hold of, near impossible so if anyone has anything by Park Circus let me know or do share.
Here's another couple of Park Circus ones that I have.

Nice group there, John. Especially, since you are trying to get as many Park Circus RR as you can.
And the Bowie quad is fantabulous. What a great image, and layout. thumbsup.gif

It is indeed. Just put three more I have in the thread.
-
Why are they so tough to get a hold of, John? Small numbers? Or they just are held very close to the vest, so to speak?
How have you tracked all of yours down?
And those last 3 are very nice, too. I really like the reworked layout of The Misfits, using those same images from the original US OS.

Most Park Circus releases only go into art house cinemas so very limited release and they only do very limited quads per release - don't know exactly how many but it won't be many at all.
This is my biggest WANT which I have been after for ages but never seen it available anywhere.
And my next two biggest wants, again extremely difficult to find. I have only ever seen one of the GTBTU in two years on the bay and it went for £150 (was out bid).

Thanks again, Matt... the weights are four stainless steel washers super-glued together (per weight). I think I have $5 in them. They work like a charm!

Great solution! I use antique glass furniture sliders - they are reproductions so they were cheap. But I wish they were heavier. Maybe I'll glue washers inside!

I may be a dealer, but the reason I arrived at that location was that I was a collector first and I still am (bigtime), so when I go through stuff I've had sitting around I find gems I'd either forgotten I had or others I didn't even know were there, it's like having another birthday!
happy me!
cheers

Had this arrive yesterday. A Thai poster for Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991)
The art is by Noriyoshi Ohrai.
The dragons makes me think of those shown on Japanese and Chinese art and embroidered robes.
And the descriptive paragraph at the bottom is priceless.

"...it very brutal..."
Nothing could be as brutal as the English on that poster
Love it
-
I totally dig it, JEFF! It shake the people entire on the world, too! WOW!
-
Yeah... that paragraph is pretty butchered..but adds to it, in a fun way..LOL.
I didnt know a dinosaur could shake the erath. ;D
-
It makes me wonder, in an Asian country with an Asian movie, why they bothered to TRY to put in an English description? Ha! It does make the poster all the more fabulous though. It should be featured on the website engrish.com . Ha!
-
Nice one, Jeff. That tagline is good fun. I've always loved that art, Ohrai is a master.
Chris, I need to get one of those one sheets for Get Out...film sounds very good.
I'm jealous of you Rich, it must be such good fun to root through boxes of posters not knowing what you might unearth and finding some gems.
Here are a couple I got recently
Japanese B2 for Hud
(http://i.imgur.com/EevkoVrl.jpg)
Mondo screen print by Jason Edmiston. A good friend got it signed by John Carpenter (in the bottom left).
-
Thanks guys.
Tob those are smashing. Ive always liked Edmiston's style. He captured it, that's for sure.
And that B2 for Hud is outstanding. Love that bright orange and yellow sun surrounding Newman.
Great scores, both.
-
Love'em both, Tob!
That's one of my favorite's by Edmiston. Such a talented dude.
-

it is fun. except it's going to end soon. I'm halfway through my own stuff (meaning the rolled posters I put away as I get them) and the stuff I got last year is almost gone through as well.
so I have to find more deals to find more stuff to find more goodies!
-
Oooo. I caught the GODZILLA VS KING GHIDORAH, but missed a few other goodies...
TOB: Nice acqs...especially love the HALLOWEEN...and it's autographed by JC? YOWZA!!! How totally awesome!
TimelessMovieMagic, I could swear I commented on your amazing EGYPTIAN poster already. It's gorgeous. WOW!
poster art, what a HAUL. Golly! I am especially enamored with SOME LIKE IT HOT, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, THE MISFITS, ROMAN HOLIDAY and TAXI DRIVER.
CHRIS--again, what can i say? AWESOME! A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, HALLOWEEN 2, and that GET OUT are standouts! Shazzam!
Not nearly as exciting as the above, but here are some samples of my usual mid-month poster post. As always, these are not the best of the lot-- but not the worst of them either. Take a look or don't.

There may be a few gems mixed in there as well...but I'll let you decide. I'll stick my post on my thread sometime after APF midnight. Golly, it's already mid-March. Last week it was cold...this week it is blazing HOT! Crazy! Or maybe that's "March Madness"?
Have a groovy day.

Agreed. Even, consistent lighting makes all the difference when shooting posters!
Seconded. You have inspired me to improve my photography setup.
I have grand ambitions to put more of my collection online, and the biggest blocker is that the photos I take for the most part look pretty crappy. Proper lighting is a big part of why, I think.
Well, it would also help to use glass paperweights or small magnets to hold down the posters rather than my current system: whatever random books I have laying around.
-
since I have been focusing on lobbies lately, my biggest improvement was getting an all-in-1 printer/scanner that had a scanner that handled up to 11x17. I am getting beautiful scans with less than a minute from grabbing the lobby to publishing the jpeg.
-
Jeff, I couldn't stop laughing at the Godzilla one. So good.
Tob - love that Halloween from Mondo. These always seem hard to get when they release them.

Another arrival today. A country of origin Thai poster for LOTR:The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Unlike some that have been discussed recently, (as well as those auctioned on emp), that are all in English, DS and measure approx. 27"x40" (produced as exports for English speaking countries), this poster is single sided, Not all in English and measures approx. 21"x30." It also has the HSBC logo.
What I also think is pretty cool with this one is that it pictures 2 close-up, profile shots of an Orc, that I haven't recalled seeing on other posters for this movie.

Another arrival today. A country of origin Thai poster for LOTR:The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Isn't Country of Origin denoting, in this context, a poster that is from the same country as that which housed the Production Company / put up the funds / director / star etc.
What was the Thai connection to LoTR?
S.
-
I can't see how the LOTR poster is a country of origin poster - J. R. R. Tolkien is a brit - the movies are filmed in NZ and its an American Production - nothing to do with thailand as far as i can see - Jeff you must know something i don't here???
-
My bad, guys... thanks for the correction. Yeah, its not a COO poster. Totally wrong "phrase choice" there, on my part. Doh.gif
I was meaning that it was a poster produced in Thailand for use in that country and (and unlike the others mentioned that were produced there but meant to be shipped out and used in other English speaking countries).
-
Hey all, haven't posted in a while, but lots of great paper being put up! thumbsup.gif
These are a few that I've picked up since 2017 kicked in ...
A larger sized chirashi (basically 38cm x 38 cm) for Harold Lloyd's Speedy (USA release 1928, Japan release ?). The paper is super thin.

A speed poster size for Female Convict Scorpion: Beast Stable with Meiko Kaji.
A Starfall in pretty good condition...
Rocky Horror Picture Show, 1997 "arthouse" cinema release in Japan.

Nice pickups there, Devin.
That Lloyd piece is really cool, and I like that thin paper, too. It looks like there might be 2 other Japanese movies advertised on there, too? (based on the small photos).
And that "Starfall" looks to be in really nice condition. Great score! thumbup

Nice one there, Jefe. The design is cool, as well as how it's the only (?) style that shows the orcs. Similar to this style with the orcs, I like the Japanese version of The Return of the King, as it seems to be the only one that features the oliphaunts (giant elephant creatures).
Anyway, there is a lot of exceptional makeup work in those films, with the elves, orcs, etc.

Pinch yourself. You're NOT dreaming. It's St. Patrick's Day and I've got a bonus poster post up on my thread. Here is a wee little sample for ya.

Rich and Erik, thanks for the comments :)
The chirashi is advertising two other movies, one is "The Blind Spider", directed by Hiroshi Inagaki who also directed the Miyamoto Musashi "Samurai" series. The other one I'm still trying to find more info about it.

Yeah, the full figure of Krampus walking across the roof in the moonlight is pretty creepy for sure, Brandon.
I dont know if this art was used elsewhere. A very quick search didnt reveal much.

Another from the so called and described "Pile 'O Crap" from fellow APF'er, Klownicle. Once again, a sincere thanks to him; I have to say that it's members like him, with a great and optimistic attitude about what the hobby is truly all about, that makes it worth it, let alone getting to know members like him. Thank you, again! cheers
The design and overall look makes this one a stand out in the world of "modern posters," imho.

Now I see the "pile 'o trash" posters you are talking about...those that Bruce/eMovie returned to Klownicle.
To be fair, Bruce called them "very low value" posters. I'm assuming that most were low value, with one or more an exception, such as this one.
Bruce hasn't posted in over a month, which is unfortunate. I'm sure that a lot of folks appreciate most of what he shares here.

Nice pick up Jeff the Batman "Joker" poster is one of the better modern day posters - a must have really thumbsup.gif

Thanks, Damo and Jason.
Jason, why, in your view, has this poster consistently done so well since it first appeared on the scene? it's not a particularly rare poster, is it? Or was it the untimely death of Ledger that has continued to fuel the price?
-
Some may know better than me. I think it used to sell for $200-$250 when it first came out. Hence the bootlegs.
Nowadays ebay gets around $75. Its a cool image, heath's death, and all the batman/joker fans have to be a factor.
-
Thanks for the info. :)
-
That is a great Krampus poster. Was that artwork only on the UK one sheets? Nice win. cool1
Hey Brandon, looks like in the US, the same teaser art was used on the theatrical advance OS, too (with full credits). So perhaps the image of Krampus walking on the rooftop was only used in the UK? More Spying.gif needed.
Here's the US Adv. OS:

So as long as buyers are diligent and know what to look for, it sounds like ebay might be the place to at least look rather than paying almost double (if not more, at times), at other locales. But that can be risky, since this poster has been repro'd to such a degree.
And thanks again, Jason, for this link on Jeannie's authentication site regarding this poster: http://movieposterauthenticating.com/wordpress/the-dark-knight/the-dark-knight-style-b/
I had NO worries or concerns about the legitimacy of Klownicle's copy beforehand but this is still a great and helpful authentication link for anyone looking to buy or even to check his/her own copy.
Just for the heck of it, I did do a compare of the copy I received with the pics and info in the link. And it checked out with a clean bill of health. star.gif

I purchased one off ebay - the seller used pics of an original but sent a knock off version - of course he said that he used stock pics and that he didn't know it was a repo, but what else would he say. it was returned for a full refund including postage.
I can understand why many buyers do not trust ebay with this poster and are happy to pay a much larger amount off a dealer. There are just tons of fakes around.
It would be interesting to hear from Bruce id like to know if many people had sent EMP this poster for consignment not knowing what they had was a repo.

keep meaning to post some new stuff but memory like a sieve ;)
some re-releases
Donnie Darko - one of my fav films & the sountrack is excellent!

The Town that Dreaded Sundown- limited run of 500, Graham Humphries quad an example of patience serving me well. Logan - the missus has extended her "favourite actor" list to Hugh jackman so this lot were a must. The last 5 are part of a set of 6 which i think was issued to a few cinemas for display - single sided & made of card, they are currently being displayed in the hallway, up the stairs & on the landing!

Some great pick up's there - Donnie and Logan Quads on my want list.
i have the Aussie version of "Your Name" - very rare here, only ever seen one which i have - do you know if the Quad version was also printed in limited numbers?
-
The Logan V1 & V2 should be fairly easy to get hold off thou I prefer the V2. Ronnie will probably set u back best part of £40 but quite a limited screening.
Your Name , like most anime films, was a limited release & most cinemas only received the one quad. Tight buggers! The poster is great thou. A Silent Voice is another with similar art but I haven't found one yet for a reasonable price.
-
The Quad has different art to the Aussie - i just added a pic above - both versions are really nice posters.
-
Nice!
Logan V1 - £8-10 V2 £10-15
How much is the postage UK-Aus for quads? If u ever need a "poster buddy" to hold onto some posters till the tube is full u just need to ask thumbsup.gif
-
Thanks mate i might take you up on that - i have to buy in lots off the one seller as postage is about the same for one poster and it is 6 - 8 -normally around 12 - $15 quad. The GSP is a farce and i just won't buy off those people who only offer it - 20 quad plus for that rip off - never used it once.
Very rarely i buy just one poster it would have to be rare or something i really want which i don't think i could get cheaper - i do factor in the postage price when bidding and because of that i miss out on a lot of items but but thats ok - plenty of posters to buy without over paying thumbsup.gif
-
Cool stuff, Mike! I almost bid against you on a few of those, glad you got em. I just remembered I owe you some £ too, will PM you now!!
-
I see why you are after "A silence voice" ripper quad
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/A-Silent-Voice-RARE-UK-Quad-Anime-/262899745782?hash=item3d360bc3f6:g:zHwAAOSwB-1Yykoy
-
Awesome grabs, Mike.
Love the N by NW and The Town that Dreaded Sundown, but they're all pretty killer. Congrats on the great haul.
-
damo - whenever i send poster to the States i can normally get 10 posters in the tube b4 the price goes silly. agreed on GSP - never use it & will avoid sellers who do! whenever u want me to start collecting your quad haul just ask. they can post to me & ill send the tube when full. i wont tell the missus that shes collecting other peoples posters now as well!
re. Silent Voice - in negotiations as we speak but hes still asking too much crying
tob - i imagine ive been bidding against a few on this forum for a while now. i know posterart has bid on a few since we collect similar stuff. no worries on the £ - my guy has only just sent the stuff as hes been promoted & done a tour of film festivals etc & been too busy to post. good news is ill be receiving 2 tubes of smashing posters. bonus!
chris - cheers - TTTDS is a firm favourite & since i had an offer of £65 turned down when i first saw them appear on ebay & only paid £30....... :)
-
keep meaning to post some new stuff but memory like a sieve ;)
some re-releases
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes - nearly gave up on finding one of these & one pops up on ebay - result!

Hi M154cath
I have quite a few of these, in particular the rerelease ones as I collect them. That GPB is on my Park Circus WANTS list if you are interested to sell it or do a trade for it.
I must have missed it on the bay . Out of interested when did it come up?
-
Hi posterart
Sorry GPB isn't for sale - taken me 5yrs to find one after I realised they existed!
The only possible trade would be my holy grail of re-releases - a series of 3 Ealing comedy re-releases from 2013 which I've never seen - Lavender Hill Mob, Whiskey Galore & The Ladykillers. I have the images somewhere. I'll try & find them & post later
I think I bought it November-ish last year - also bought Casablanca & North by NW from him.
-
my mistake - lavender hill mob not the ladykillers

Great haul there, Mike! Im really liking 7 Thieves, HUD, Inn of the 6th Happiness and Strange Colour of Your Body's Tears.
Little side observation: the art on Strange Colour looks like it was influenced by this 1897 poster by Mucha. And look at the hair curls on the lower right side. It's almost a match. Regardless, Strange Colour is really a beautiful poster. bed1

Geez Jeff you find a lot of "borrowed" art! Nice work!
-
Yes, sharp eyes Jeff - I don't know how you do it. The hair is almost identical in the lower sections.
Whilst I don't collect them myself I think the re-issue quads are an interesting category of poster to acquire given the different artwork and the low print runs. Mike - did Graham Humphries issue his poster to coincide with a theatrical re-release of The Town That Dreaded Sundown or is it to publicise something else?
Mark
-
Think Jeff must have photographic memory or some clever app that matches up images!
Mark - TTTDS poster was commissioned for the 2016 release with a limited print of 50 by Metrodome, the distributor.
Re. Re-release posters - I collect them mostly for those reasons & the fact I can't afford the originals. I'm lucky to have someone who gets most of the Park Circus & BFI otherwise I'd have to be glued to eBay as u only have a limited window to find them & then they're gone. Some like To Catch a Thief & African Queen u would only see 1-2 on eBay, with only 20 odd cinemas showing the films. It's a shame Park Circus & BFI don't sell them like some of the other smaller distributors

HI, you are so lucky having someone who gets the Park Circus posters. I love them but they are so hard to get. Only got about 10 from the 30 or so that I want. I remember seeing that To Catch a Thief and the GPB posters by the same seller last year, I was outbid on both but I did get something else from the same guy though I cannot remember which now. Well it will be one of the 10 that I have.
Love the Kind Hearts of Coronets poster, all of those three you are nice - haven't seem them before so thanks for sharing.
Here's another couple of Park Circus ones. I don't have them but really like and are high on my WANTS list.

Good catch Jeff. Not the first time Mucha's iconic hair has been ripped off... here is Dagny, a Polish film from 1977.

I picked up a copy of this a few days ago for the recent film The Love Witch. I quite liked the film, very different made in the style of those 70s horror pics, Very stylish. Don't expect to see many of these around so grabbed one while I can.

posterart - at one stage i had 3 arthouse cinema contacts but now just the one. best thing to do is visit your local arthouse cinema alot , join any membership scheme they have & get to know the manager & gradually introduce your love of film posters & keep your fingers crossed nobody beaten u to it!
The Love witch is great - i have the one sheet already so its defo on the list
Ive never seen Only Angels Have Wings quad. i have the guys & Dolls & in cold blood thou.
-
Great solution! I use antique glass furniture sliders - they are reproductions so they were cheap. But I wish they were heavier. Maybe I'll glue washers inside!
Just go find a meat head and get some some extra plate weights. Seems to work.......

Cool poster, Rich. What's the story with this one and all the sigs?
-
Cool poster, Rich. What's the story with this one and all the sigs?
it's autographed to Eric and the store so maybe he had everyone there. I haven't deciphered all the names, but Bill Stout signed & drew the skull at bottom left. I'll have to ask Bill if he did this poster. It doesn't look like it & there's no sig.

Who's Eric? The owner of Hollywood Book & Poster?
yeah.. I was reading the comments, it was obviously the night they all had dinner together and Bill said he was the production designer on the movie
-
Cool, and a neat back story there.
-
I've always been a fan of this poster's design, but haven't been in the market for it since it recent going price (rolled or folded) has been a bit more than I can afford to part with at the moment, but I found this one for an absolute steal, so I hopped on it. I've got some work to do flattening it, but couldn't be happier with it for the price.

Awesome Mr 9000. Pays off to be patient most of the time. Condition looks great and happy for ya!

Congrats on the pick up, Chris. Nice job! thumbup
And flatten that rolled, vertical fold with even pressure. It should come out nicely.
-
color looks good .. nice pick-up

That Alien teaser is great - been on my wants list for an age. Can't compete with that but I did receive the new Alien Covenant quad this weekend .Really looking forward to the film.

Very nice, Chris. I've coveted that Alien poster for a long time, such a great poster for a perfect film.
Another good haul, Mike. I like the Blue Velvet a lot.
-
I sold my Aliens teaser copy relatively cheap 18 months ago. Then again I did manage to snag it for £240 6 months previous to that.
Marc
-
Appreciate it guys!
Mike...another killer haul of quads. The Alien, Blue Velvet, and Taxi Driver are especially nice. Congrats.
-
I've always been a fan of this poster's design, but haven't been in the market for it since it recent going price (rolled or folded) has been a bit more than I can afford to part with at the moment, but I found this one for an absolute steal, so I hopped on it. I've got some work to do flattening it, but couldn't be happier with it for the price.

Really happy to have picked up an Aussie La La Land and for a bargain price of $35 including postage to boot.
-
Nice job and pickup, Damo.
And can you image what that person who spent over 600.00 for a copy, just a month+ ago would think if he/she saw this post? Ouch. crying
Seems the "hotness" (must have) factor may have worn off LA LA LAND posters?
It will be interesting to see if future prices all settle to where they should be, too.

Congrats on the win there, D. Likey.jpg

Thanks Neo thumbsup.gif
Jeff, $600 in my opinion is a crazy price for a new release, doubt anyone on here would pay that as we all collect far to many posters to be paying such prices. You would believe that two people who just wanted the poster for home display would have been the bidders on that copy - could be wrong though. I have seen a few other copies of the aussie sold and they were around the $150 - $200 mark. Which is far more reasonable given there are far fewer printed than the US Version. i just got lucky on mine as we all do from time to time when you buy as many posters as well all do.
Prices overall seem to have cooled i have been following as i want the lamp version of La but have set a $50 - $70 limit which given past history of modern poster prices "girlfriend experience, Drive" etc should be getable within the next year or two
-
As you hang around here longer, you will see a title every year or so that gets pumped way up in price soon after release. They usually drop like a rock a year later.
The trick is not to get sucked in when they are pumped up. Especially true for "recalled" and "limited edition". They are almost always worth less a few years later.
Now folks will argue, but look at recent prices for "why so serious" Batman, "twin tower" spiderman, and even "lucky strike" Pulp Fiction. All of these are selling for significantly less these days than at their peak.

It's interesting to watch these kinds of fluctuations. Though I did just look on HA, and they sold a Dark Knight/Why So Serious poster this past January for $227.00, inc the bp. But it sure is a big difference from one they sold back in Feb of 2009 ( a SS copy, per their description), for $537.75

maybe at that one venue, but I'm sure that these three posters are holding the correct value
the PF you mention though.. This poster goes up, not down. I've sold 4 in the last 5 years (not auction) and each time I sold it for more than the last

Hey Brandon, looks like in the US, the same teaser art was used on the theatrical advance OS, too (with full credits). So perhaps the image of Krampus walking on the rooftop was only used in the UK? More Spying.gif needed.
Here's the US Adv. OS:
It was only used in the UK, which made it a PITA to get here in the states, which is why I ended up with two of them. Any of the UK listings were "iffy" on if it was a legit double sided version. The second one I got (which actually also happens to be the better quality you received) was poorly labeled in the eBay auction.

Thanks for the info, Klownicle! cheers
Are there known repro DS versions, too? Or were repros done as SS copies?

Well, if you look at Bruce's archives, I might concede its holding its own, but certainly not appreciating

The poster Klownicle posted about was the UK advance OS for Krampus, not PF., and mentioned here:
http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/topic,11826.msg217626.html#msg217626
Also, this particular Krampus poster has never been auction by them, either, so there is no auction history there.

Hi there. Happy (almost) April. It's a new month and I'll have a new post on my thread at some point after APF midnight when it's officially April in APF land. I'm posting this at the end of March. The only reason I started March (instead of tack my March 1st preview on at the end of February) last time was because I did not want to upstage the praise for Ted's awesome FRANKENSTEIN poster. (I still dig it, man!)
Anyway, here is a sample of my April 1st post.
MAD MAX: FURY ROAD:

I hope March was awesome for you all---and that April is even BETTER!
CHEERS!
-
T minus 36 hrs and counting. ;D
-
Oh---it's only the 30th. OOOPS! I'm all discombobulated. I got back from my trip to Washington to visit my Mom late last night and I had stuff to do at work early this morning. I work tomorrow. I am so sorry. i don't know WHAT day it is apparently. Uh... Consider this a super sneak preview TEASER then. (Build up the suspense... Oh my! Ha!)
Sorry...
-
Or an early April Fools Day teaser! <OO
-
Some may know better than me. I think it used to sell for $200-$250 when it first came out. Hence the bootlegs.
Nowadays ebay gets around $75. Its a cool image, heath's death, and all the batman/joker fans have to be a factor.
It does do well @ EMP, you were right:

These are the two UK one sheets released for Krampus. Personally I like that different artwork has been used on both designs.

Personally haven't seen any. Couldn't imagine producing a repo for this title would be that profitable. In the U.K., independent local cinemas can get single sided 1 sheets but from the ones I've seen they tend to be on a thicker stock than a standard quad.
-
Thanks again, Simon. cheers
-
Hi SIMON! I dig the KRAMPUS posters. Good choice! I am pretty sure snow globe one...but don't have that other advance. Both are nice and I'd totally go for that advance if it came up, but I agree with you--the US one (snow globe) is the better of the two. CONGRATS!
JEFF--No April Fool-ing. I really DO have an April 1st post coming soon. (I even forgot about April Fool's Day! Ha!) Again, I apologize for my goof and not realizing it was only the 30th.
CHEERS!
-
Shawn, I was meaning that you were going to be posting your April goodies on the last day of March, as the April Fools Day spoof. ;)
-
Ahh... Okay. I'm slow today. Gotcha. ;)
-
Shawn, love that whole haul, but the Maximum Overdrive is a killer! Congratulations buddy.

Is this copy staying in your personal collection?

MARTIN---I LOVE that poster. WOW!!!! That just flashed on to my want list in a heart beat. Lucky you.

Well, thank you JEFF. I hope you'll like some of the other items when I get them posted tomorrow night about this time...
Sorry again for jumping the gun by a day. OOPS!

They may well have been Dale, as I was given a load of Quads from the film, and I'm sure there's at least 6-8 of those.. I can ask the Cinema guy I know next time I see him, which is this weekend.
-
Thanks Paul, I have 4, just wondering if I am missing the other 6 or if they were not printed.
-
Marty how come I can't see you pics/images? dontknow.gif

I love that Miss Peregrine's poster! It's pretty great!
-
that Alien: Covenant poster is fantastic
-
Hey Posterfanatic84. I am guessing (after flipping through the entire March thread) that you are referring to my MISS PEREGRINE poster from the beginning of the month. THANK YOU for noticing it and leaving a little comment.
Okay, it is finally March 31st---REALLY this time. As soon as it hits APF midnight I'll be posting my usual 1st o' the month thread. Since I posted a preview (accidentally) yesterday, here is a BONUS preview (and to make things more interesting (and so that most of the thread isn't ending up here as a preview), I've added BONUS postings to my thread...so expect more than the usual 10. Here is the BONUS sample:
WELCOME TO MY NIGHTMARE:

My new post will be up in a few minutes. Happy FAREWELL to March everyone and HELLO to April!
CHEERS!

Love that Alien poster.
I've been trying to track down some Miss Peregrine Character posters but they don't seem to exist as a full set. I did pick these up though. French dvd release totems (I think) Double sided and made of card. I don't normally go for standees but as these are not the elaborate 3d kind I like to think of them as posters mounted on card. Needs must and all that.
The Edward Scissorhands is a big Frenchie. I already had it but this one is rolled and I really dislike folded (I prefer 'rolled as printed' rather than 'folded as issued') Unfortunately it seems most Frenchies are folded so happy to find this one.

Just spoke to the guy I know and he says there was about 10 versions printed.. Crikey.
Good luck with that Dale.

most of those are purely for wildings aren't they?
I find it interesting that for the most part, only the biggest cities get the complete groupings of these posters, like NY & L.A.
I believe we don't get wildings posters out here because construction sites don't use wood barriers at the sidewalk, just fencing and that it is illegal to post them otherwise.

i'm not sure ive ever seen quads used as wildings in the UK? its mostly bus stops and sometimes 1shts. and if they are ever used its super infrequently.
-
Haven't seen Wildings up this end of the country for 30 years maybe, unless you count 48 sheets, etc..

Nice Edward Scissorhands there, skyjackers. Ive always really liked that image with the added butterfly. Very nice.

I'm talking about one sheets, here in the US

Dale was asking if the posters were released in the UK, which it seems they were, but not as wildings, ordinary 1shts.

we get quite a lot of movie wildings up this end!
well actual bus shelters are all over the place, but in manchester also get pasted up bus shelters too! sometimes with designs i havent actually seen elsewhere in print. like the character posters for high rise and a different design for neon demon too.
