Movie Posters => Collector's ONLY Board: For Sale/Auction/Trade => Topic started by: Frozen Ghost on July 06, 2011, 06:09:12 PM

I have seen from time to time portions of three sheets and six sheets (or larger) for sale. I thought I would start a thread where you could post the sections of these posters you have. Perhaps if someone out there has the missing part you are looking for or you have that part they are looking for, then a deal could be worked out to complete the poster either through sale or trade.
I have the top portion of "The Mad Ghoul" from the three sheet (1943). Unfortunatly it is missing the white borders on the left and right side, the top border is intact. If you by chance have the bottom portion of the poster or are interesed in my top part, let me know.
Thanks,
Chris

A neat idea, too, Chris.
Do you have a pic of your partial 3sh for The Mad Ghoul?
-
I'd be curious if anyone has ever matched missing pieces. My impression is to assume you will never find it.

I had the potential, for a piece I was going to have done, with another collector having a section that I needed. But on the flip side, he wanted to obtain the section I had, so it ended up being a stale mate.
This topic is almost sounds like a restoration-related thread.

He did, Paul, back in another thread. :D

And even tho the lower right corner of the top 2/3 section was painted over to advertise a double bill for Son Of Dracula, it still looked incredible, imo.

Haha, good one laugh1 My mind is on a million other things at the moment... let me preface that, that is based on my counting. I do have a mechanical engineering degree, but that maths was long ago by the looks of it!

its ok Steve with your new job you don't have to sweat the details its ultimately someone else's responsibility to catch them ;D

I also have the bottom portion of a 3 sheet, which is also all text. it doesn't look right when I try to insert it into the 6 sheet
I need the bottom 3rd of a Red Shoes 3 sheet
I also need the bottom section of a UK 3 sheet (or called 6 sheet in the UK, right?) for Gypsy and the Gentleman

That sux, sounds like you are missing the red shoes

Ok, ok, I know I'm a dealer and that this is subject to getting moved around. But this is the appropriate place to put this. We bought a small collection of material and got some fragments: WEST SIDE STORY 3, THE LITTLE HUT 3, THE AMERICANIZATION OF EMILY 3, THE LAST WOMAN ON EARTH 3, MARY POPPINS 3. You may also send lists of fragments to us. mail kirby@movieart.com

To celebrate my 500th post, could you please help me find Lon Chaney's head?! Anyone have a lead on the top sheet to this original Son of Dracula three sheet? I'd even like the top sheet that was used in the part poster/part painting advertising that sold at Bonhams awhile back. Is it really that bad to connect a vampire back with its head?! Thanks in advance for any help! Okie
-
Good luck, Okie.
Lon's floating head has to be out there, somewhere.

Looks like a slow news day here on ol' APF. So, I'll drop some news just to say the Son of Dracula is getting his head back in 2020! The wheels are already in motion. Stay tuned later in February for pictures! Okie
-
wow thats so lucky to find a missing piece! congrats!
-
Amazing to hear!
The search continues for the other half of my Mummy '59 6 sheet.
-
That's fantastic Okie, congrats on finding that missing part of your Son of Dracula 3-sheet!
-
Well done Okie. Patience has paid off!
-
Thanks for the congrats, guys! Man, I'm looking forward to seeing the Son of Dracula three sheet restored next month. I also have hope for your search, iojabba! Okie
-
Appreciate it. I have little hope but it makes for something to hunt for. Someone on here suggested that I look for a complete poster in lesser condition to complete it, which is probably more likely. but seeing how its not a common poster to begin with.... I have my doubts. Anyway, I have the rest of my life to search.

Okie did you actually find the piece or are you having it recreated?

Okie's revival of this thread has inspired me to plead for someone to find (or release from their sweaty grasp!) the bottom section for my 1959 - Mummy three sheet

At least you have the good part. I have the good part of the 6 sheet :)

Hi Chris,
Yes, found most of the top piece. Just some background needs restoration.
Okie

Tempting to pick up cheap on the off chance that you could someday find a complete one with the bottom half in bad condition.

It looks like this same copy sold for $1,792 so I'm guessing this one will still go for a pretty penny.

Son of Dracula (1943) three sheet head reunited! I'm so glad to have this back at the homestead and not terribly far from where the story was supposed to take place. There is some hope out there to find pieces with immense patience, long life, and a hearty sprinkle of good fortune. I wish you all good luck in your missing piece's quests! Okie
-
Yee-haa, congratulations!

Yee-haa, congratulations!
Thanks, Steve! Now I can shut tight the frame, rub Transylvanian soil on the wall, and ensure the Count is quite happy hanging from his perch. Okie

Congrats Okie - looks great! Must be very satisfying

Thank you, Chris! Even since I was a kid, I've enjoyed the hunt as much as the finale with collecting. My favorites are still the road trips - much too far between nowadays - searching odd junk shops, flea markets, and sometimes small town antique stores. I love that old paper smell that hits you when you walk in and you know you are in the right place. Is it like that in Canada, Chris? Okie
-
All right Okie! Good to hear :)
-
Very good! Congrats Okie! Must be very satisfying to have hunted that down successfully
-
Thanks, Hicks and Tob! This reunion, all told, took about two years to complete. Yes, it has been nicely satisfying. I'm still happily shocked the stars aligned. Fingers crossed for those still on the hunt! Okie
-
As a long time dealer, I can attest to the difficulty of finding missing pieces. It just doesn't happen that often. I recently was looking for two missing panels to a 24 sheet, THOSE MAGNIFICENT MENT IN THEIR FLYING MACHINES, a poster with great art by Ronald Searle. No luck. So congrats!

Thanks, Kirby! I hear you. There were so few 24 sheets made that finding the exact pieces needed is much more than a needle in the haystack. Still, here's hoping for someday! Okie

The needle in the wheat field, in the forest, on a different continent. ;)

Unfortunately no :(. All you might find would be glossy modern paper if anything at all. Not sure why it is like that up here as clearly some very significant theatre inventories have been found in Canada. Maybe because there were less poster exchanges or the ones in Canada didn’t sell gradually to the public?
-
Congrats Okie, this 3-sheet looks great now that you've reunited the 2 pieces together. What a satisfying feeling it must be after all this time searching for the missing top half!
-
This is the 24-sheet for THOSE MAGNIFICENT MEN IN THEIR FLYING MACHINES for which I was lacking two panels. Fortunately I sold the incomplete poster for a modest amount. Now I'd like to find another example - complete, of course. Two panels (upper left) were missing. I filled in those for the purposes of this photo from an existing image of another poster. This poster has art by the British satirical artist Ronald Searle.

Thanks, Antoine! It was sure an exciting moment when I realized it was actually going to happen. When it makes sense again, I'm looking forward to displaying it for show and tell at a couple of conventions. Okie

I was hoping you might find the odd movie poster/paper in small towns, Chris. Window cards and counter standees come to mind as they may have been displayed all around towns. I'll keep my fingers crossed you make a discovery one day! A Creature from the Black Lagoon partial three sheet was found in an antique store not long ago in the US. Okie

Wow, congratulations Okie, it looks amazing.
Now if you could only find My Frankensteins head, I posted a pic before, but it seems to have gone missing, so...

Hehe, I like the substitution you've used there, Paul. Very good :)

Paul has there ever been an unofficial count of how many headless Frankies there are?
I know two of them (at least) have had recreation heads put on, and it seems I remember Bruce talking about a few other headless ones wandering around, but it may have been those with the new heads to which he was referring.
-
As far as I know, Sean, there's only the three. A guy I know had a head put on, and sold it, theres mine and one a lady dealer in London has.
Not sure where Bruce got his numbers, but I was told it was only the 3 out of that find.
-
I'd love to find the two Quad size bits of this UK 12 sheet too.
Same find, Sean, but only two of these turned up.

Nice. It's been a few years since I saw it in person, but the colors are quite different from the US 6-sheet.

I do prefer the Green version, but it would be nice to see this one complete..

Yep, that's the one the guy I know sold Jim, and as far as I know, the only one ever to be restored to the full size.. Odd no US 3 Sheets have turned up, as they are in the US press book..
Thanks for posting Chris, wonder who bought it?? and how much they paid..

Cross-posting here also my search for the small bottom sheet for the Son of Dracula six sheet. Thanks to everyone who helped me on the three sheet, especially you, Chris. Best, Okie
