As two short videos on YouTube lament, FP is "forgotten" nowadays by general audiences but very influential on Star Trek and Star Wars:

*****
It was banned in Spain because of minimal clothing:

Scene painted on filming set:

Rare color film for the 50s:

MP misrepresented Robbie the Robot as the villain (scene never occurred):

Which is why MP collectors covet it:

Made lotsa money for its time:

Have you watched it Mel?

Yep, bit slow but great visuals.
I was a sci-fi sci-fi/fantasy nut through college, owned/read thousands of books, and it was very much in that vein.
BTW Mark Lawd passed along a pic of his rare 30x40 FP:

I never felt Robbie was evil in that poster. I thought he was rescuing her. Irrelevant since the scene is not in the film.
-
Agree.
The image of Robbie carrying the "fainted" girl always looked like he was coming to her defense, carrying her out of harm's way.
Were it the other way around, the girl may have been drawn with the classic, "hands in the air, screaming or terrified" look on her face.

Reminded me that this thread exists ;D:

Just quoting the video, I guess it's ambivalent and since the scene was never filmed I guess we'll never know.
As I'm writing this, I'm glancing up at my 1954 Tobor and wondering if the 1956 FB poster designer just ripped off Tobor or based it on an unfilmed scene from the script....

Aside from Forbidden Planet and Tobor the Great, the third 1950s sci-fi-fi MP to feature a giant robot carrying a woman is The Day the Earth Stood Still, which came out before (in 1951).
-
Here is Robby looking all evil. Of course, he isn't really, but the poster has that screaming in pain victim.
I've got the 3 sheet on this

Perfect example there, Ben, of the terrified and screaming damsel actually in fear of the evil robot that has her in its clutches and is carrying her off. thumbsup.gif

There is still space for one more quad up there

And Robbie is shown to be 15-20 feet tall on The Invisible Boy poster. Robbie on growth hormones alone would be daunting. 8)
