So this is an interesting one. I imported this one-sided quad from UK and I suspect it is an "original" in the sense that it was probably printed as part of a small-scale re-release campaign. (The seller only sold one and is not selling any more.)

But it is very clearly a "copy shop" print with fuzzy printing and printed on heavy "luster" paper. This is the same kind of printing that MovieGoods and Tom Loce use for their reprints BTW. Anybody can take a large digital image and take it to the copy shop for printing. For a quad you'd need a 6000 pixel (H) x 4000 pixel (V) image for a 150 dpi 40"x30" print.
I presume the distributor (Hollywood Classics) took the digital master down to the local copy shop and printed out 50 posters for the 30 or so theatres showing the film.
From a distance it looks fine:

On closer inspection the logo is extremely fuzzy and the small text illegibly fuzzy:

Well I probably would not have paid $50 for it if I had known it was a "copy shop" printing but the design is very good for a photo poster.
So the seller confirmed the following:
Yes, the Cleopatra poster was supplied to to a local cinema by the film distributor to coincide with the 50th anniversary release of the film. The quality of film posters varies considerably. I have found that lower budget/smaller release films tend to use posters of a far superior quality. I recently received a batch of James Bond Skyfall Cinema quads, that were of such poor quality that I didn't even bother listing them.

I know a place in Houston where you may be able to at least recover half of your costs... ;D
