Here's one that came in a while ago..and it got set off to the side, for some reason. But adding it here and now. Plus, it's a James ("Frankenstein") Whale production, so it's rather in tune with the "scary/Halloween" season of the year., based on his previous, directed flickers. >:D
The movie is called Green Hell and is from 1941, produced by Universal. This is the Swedish OS with art by Aberg. I think this imagery far outshines the US material that was put out for the movie (imho). There is a snipe over the printed, Universal logo (lower right corner) and I'm undecided about its removal, at this point.
-
Nice grab Jeff thumbsup.gif Colors are sweet!
-
Very cool, shame they covered the Uni logo though.
-
I will most likely remove the snipe (and keep it), so that the UNI logo is visible again.
-
Here is a poster I've acquired a while ago. This is a personal favorite of mine as it is for a great film and has a great design by Christian Broutin whom I had the chance to have met a while back. Sorry this is not a very "recent" acquisition, but as this is my first post regarding my collection, I wanted to share a piece I really like.
-
Very unusual. Cracking.
-
Nice, Seckin. There is something totally alluring about that imagery, too.
-
Yes, that's a great design,, I like it a lot. Thanks for sharing.
-
I'm going to double post to share some SW posters I got out recently. The Australian one sheet is the proper recent acquisition (my copy was really, really rough...so I got it linen backed and it came back a few weeks ago). The other two I picked up in the last 18 months or so, but I thought they look nice in a row. Empire is my favourite SW film and I really love the Ohrai and Kastel art
(http://i.imgur.com/g9lXI7ph.jpg)
-
Nicely done, Tob!
clap clap clap clap
@Seckin
Your Pickpocket poster is a very nice example of Broutin's work.
I'm sure you've seen some of his horror covers (which I've always liked).
For those who haven't, see here: (http://monsterbrains.blogspot.com/2010/06/histories-of-nightmares-ghosts-demons.html)
-
Love the trio, there, Tob. They look smashing, lined up in that grouping together.
Bravo. And your linen backed AU copy looks outstanding, as well.
Nice job. Can I ask who you had do the work?
-
Nice pickups Tob! Still need that dang middle one myself. The Ohrai is one of my favorites from all three films.

Yes, the international is quite rare. How many copies in existence, Mike?
T
-
I honestly don't know, I stop counting when they pass 15-20. There were around 12 new never before seen by me freshly surfaced copies that popped up this year alone and they are well past the 20+ mark now. Interesting though is that almost none of them are folded maybe 3-4 that I can think of, the rest are rolled.
For those wondering how I can tell I take each new copy's unique markings be it edge wear, a rip, crease, printing mark, alignment or anything that is unique to that specific copy and use it as an identifier like a fingerprint would be used. The only way for one to not be distinguishable from another would be if it was a dead mint copy off of the same plate and plate location on the press when printed. It is I am sure not 100% foolproof but close enough for my purposes.
As an example Tob's has fold marks and just the wear at the center top cross fold alone would be enough to say it is that specific copy unless it suffered further damage. There are other marks on that one that would identify it though.
-
Another one just sold for a grand last week. More people watching foreign auctions these days kills about any bargain to be had anywhere.
-
Yup, was watching that one, won't go anywhere near that price though. Too many other posters I would buy in that price range first even as a serious Star Wars collector.
The really scary thing is that the same seller sold a rolled studio style D for a whopping $28 the same day, wish it was me on that one. Hell of a deal imo.
-
Thanks guys. Jeff - I gave Jaime Mendez a try after getting some advice from a couple of members. I'm pleased with the work, cleaned up nicely but not overly so.
Regarding the Intl, I bid on that one and I'm sure 2 or 3 others bid way over me, but for some reason the seller messaged me a few weeks later and sold to me for my bid - perhaps the other bids were shills or perhaps the other bidders dropped out because the condition is a little rough...either way I was pretty thrilled as my budget doesn't stretch to one in great shape and I'm really happy with this one.
-
Thanks, Tob.
It presents really well and "the less is more approach" to what you had done to it, sure was the way to go.
Might you have a pic of it, when you first got it? And so as not to go off the rails of this thread, maybe you could post the before and after pix here? http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/topic,4517.0.html
Would be great to see, thats for sure. :D
-
Good idea Jeff, I'll dig out a pic later and will add it there. Cheers

Here is a unicorn (eyeroll Lethal Weapon 2 unicorn..) , havent seen another of these anyone have any info? Don't remember where I got, had it for quite awhile just putting it away.

Thanks guys. Brude, I just could not get a hold of the link you put on the site. Can you please check if it works? I am familiar with Broutin's work, but not for the horror ones. Thanks again!
-
Hi Seckin,
It looks like Ted (brude) had put the site link above in between image tags, so the link wasnt appearing (i know i couldnt see it either).
Try this, it should take you to the Broutin site Ted mentioned: http://monsterbrains.blogspot.com/2010/06/histories-of-nightmares-ghosts-demons.html

Thanks, Jeff.

His work for horror is amazing. Thank you for the link, Jeff and Ted.
Harry Caul: This Swedish Frankenstein is really one of my favorite posters, such a great paper. Good one!

That is not just a big purchase, THAT IS AN AWESOME PURCHASE!!! Nice pickup!!!

Congrats, Matt.
That Frankie is outstanding!

Yep, brilliant poster. I have a real soft spot for geometric patterns in poster design (especially concentric circles!)...I wonder if this is one of the earliest examples?
-
Crikey Matt, way to steal the month, first rate pick-up. happy1
-
Fantastic stuff Tob and Matt!
-
Damn Mr. Caul!!! That's impressive!
-
Awesome stuff everyone! Love, love, love the Swedish Frankenstein....just wonderful art!
The SW posters are awesome Tob! Need to get me an Empire B1.

That is one cool Frankenstein!

These B2s came in last week...

I really like The Crooked Way, Devin. It has a great noir look to it. What year is that from?
Great scores! thumbup

Thanks Jeff! It's 1953, I really like the noir look too ;D

Superb Matt.......my favorite poster for a film that has a couple ( ;) ) of good posters.
-
What a fantastic Frankenstein!
Mark
-
That is one fantastic Frankenstein poster. It's very distinctive, unlike almost any other poster art for the film that I've seen.
-
jawdrop :o
-
Interesting, too, to see the similar design to what looks to be a hand painted poster in the lobby of this theater, taken back during the movie's initial release. The image of the grave robber holding his lantern aloft.
I wonder how this same design was decided upon, as it looks like only the SWE poster used it for their campaign.
-
Amazing goes without saying Matthew...WOW!
And Devin that Crooked Way is fantastic too...
-
So, I rescued a poster the other day off the Bay, it was very creased, so much so that even the patented Waines press needed some extra weight to help the process along...
Here's the poster...

I've noticed a lot of posters from EXCELSIOR FILMS are not from original releases but I believe this one is. Not sure how many of these are around - anybody else have this?

Wow, Mike, that Belgian DRAC is a beauty! Just fantastic!
-
Took the words out of my month Jeff, Very nice Mike.
-
I don't have it Mike, but will look for it now... ;D

EMP sold a copy back in 2012, and they dont mention it as being a later RR, either. http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/11455490.html
Looks like a you've got a first run home run there, Mike. sm1

That's all I've seen of it. Bruce usually gets good info from his clients but just wanted to be sure. Any Belgian poster experts here that can clarify?
-
Mike, was the top imprint area on your copy trimmed off?
And looking on imdb, it looks like the film was widely released in various European countries in 1971, but only shows a later RR in West Germany in 1976.

Very nice Hicks - I was wondering if there were character sheets for Leo and Diaz...guess there are! Nice scores.
Thanks Tob, the most common are the ones which are big head shots of these 3 characters (similar to the US 1 sheets), the one of DiCaprio with his arm up next to Diaz and there's also a horizontal B1 in red with DiCaprio and Diaz getting horizontal.

Devin..WAY nice pickups there. What are those? A type of program?
And Ari... NICE snag on a poster that is so cool (and the fact that you have been on the lookout for one). And I love the tag line: "Makes PSYCHO look like a Sunday school picnic."
-
TED: I dig your TIGER WOMAN. Me-ow!
ARI: DEMENTIA 13! Awesome! Is that the Aussie title and poster? Very similar to the US. LOVE it. Nice job.
Here's a sampling of my latest acquisitions on my thread as usual. Not the best of the new stuff--but not the worst.
FROGS:
Ribbit! Ribbit! Nothing like a poster of a man-eating frog for Halloween. Ha!

DRACULA - PRINCE OF DARKNESS (small French):

Devin..WAY nice pickups there. What are those? A type of program?
Thanks Jeff! I "think" (as in I'm not 100% certain) but press sheets were sent to the exhibitor before the film opened so they could get some information about the film. After the film opened, the image side of the press sheet was then displayed in the theater... The High Noon one fits the bill for this but The Third Man seems more like a program, it has tons of information about the story, production, soundtrack etc... and it doesn't naturally fold out to display a larger image.
-

finally got one for ME!
Killer grab, Ari! Congrats on the find!

Nice tigress adds, there, Ted. They all look like they know what they want. thumbsup.gif
And Shawn.. very cool and colorful French DPOD poster. I always loved the ending scene where Dracula is standing on the frozen mote and the priest fires his rifle at the ice, causing it to crack and Drac slipping under it to his doom (once again).

At the Tampa Theatre last night, there was a big stack of posters, from movies they've shown over the years, that they were giving away.
Within the first few seconds of looking through them, I was stoked to see this one. Great shot of a rad looking show from the 90s - one of the greatest decades of music, movies, and life.

1952 Moulin Rouge French 1P
(http://undead.net/images/posters/mr_1p.jpg)
-
Cool posters Brandon and Mike.
Its always nice when you walk up someplace and the the posters are free! You mentioned that there were many films represented there, Brandon. Did you snag any others?
And Mike, that poster is beautious. Has it been backed? Not a single fold line is visible. Wow! And it looks to be in mint condition, too. Nice score.
-
This one is backed though I am sure it was done solely to smooth the folds, there is no damage or touch up to it that I have noticed. When it originally sold at HA in 2014 it was described as "The poster is impeccable, and receives the highest grade possible for a piece mounted on linen. Very Fine+ on Linen. ". I am quite happy with it and the better half loves it too.
-
Nice!
Is there already a selected bit of wall space that this 1P will grace?

Thanks. And I agree, that Moulin Rouge is beauteous, indeed.
I did not pick up any others among the pile. They were mostly very small release, lesser known films from the late 80s to present, many of which were not even screened at the Tampa Theatre. The distributors send a lot of posters and/or films to the Tampa Theatre, in case they want to show them, but they only show a select few of them. A few people were standing there as I was browsing through them, and one guy who seemed to be a movie buff shared some interesting details about a lot of the films. It was cool.

Mike's Moulin Rouge!
clap clap clap clap clap
What a poster!
-
Nice!
Is there already a selected bit of wall space that this 1P will grace?
Nope, will have to work on that.
-
Love that Moulin Rouge - absolutely fab find.
Are you framing and displaying it? Would love to see a picture when done.
-
Yep, very nice Mike! Great looking poster.
-
Ooh, that Moulin poster is just lovely...
-
Thanks everyone. It is indeed a very cool piece but sadly will not be framed any time soon. That will have to wait until we move and have more wall space.

WOW, Devin... I like this one a LOT! GREAT artistic, close up imagery. thumbsup.gif
Have you seen this movie? Is it any good?

Thanks Jeff! I haven't seen the movie but just loved the image ... researched it a bit, here's a link to a review/synopsis...

A few more October grabs...
Critters (French 1p): Had to grab this for my Critters stash, had never seen this artwork before.
Blue Velvet (Italian (1p): The Candy Colored Clown turns 30yo next month.
Class of Nuke'em High: My top Troma film of all time.

MPAA Posters: Two more for my MPAA poster collection

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles: One of my favorite holiday, and John Candy films of all time. I'd own this if it was going for $1. As we know, it's not, but was still able to grab a nice copy at a lower than normal cost.
Fargo: My third favorite Cohen Bros. film behind Raising Arizona, and The Big Lebowski
(https://www.dropbox.com/s/jwwg39l26etuud2/fargp.jpg?raw=1)
Stepfather 2: I saw Terry O'Quinn on a train to NY once. He nodded and smiled at me as we passed in the aisle, pretty cool moment. Love this horror film from my teen years.

Gruesome yet brilliant.

Cool variation art on your French 1P for Critters, Chris. thumbsup.gif
I see there is an artist's sig on the right side, near the girsl's foot. I cant quite make it out but it looks like maybe E. Sciotti? If him, he does some fine work, that's for sure.

I stumbled upon this on Ebay and couldn't resist.
The art by Stan Grant is spot-on. Maureen and Johnny - Happy times.
Its from 1997 and is a SS 27x40.

-
Oooo... that is a snazzy TARZAN pick-up. Lucky you, TED.
CHRIS, I also dig the CLASS OF NUKE 'EM HIGH and STEPFATHER 2 as well as your CRITTERS and BLUE VELVET. Zowie!
-
Nice find Ted, those AMC posters don't seem to have very high print runs. Blue Velvet poster is really one of the classic poster images from the 80's. Undervalued in my opinion.
-
This poster is awesome! Great image, and great pink text!
DRACULA - PRINCE OF DARKNESS (small French):
A little on the rough side--but a bargain. Ooo la la!

After a long streak of propaganda and travel posters, I'm finally back with some movie posters. I'll start with this beauty by Renau, which had been on my list for a while:
This is another poster by Renau. I already had one of these, but I suspected my prior copy was for a later rerelease based on the "sheen" of the paper. I saw this which had different printers' info and couldn't resist picking it up. Sure enough, based on the paper the one I just got is undoubtedly older than the one I already had.
-
Still more Mexican madness:

-
Always a treat seeing your newest Mexican posters, Deke.
cheers
-
Love the colours there. Pinks, Reds, Orange Ochres...? I think.
-
Two more for my MPAA poster collection
Never seen anyone collect Ratings poster before you.
Do you collect other nationality ones? Indeed, do you also collect Piracy Warning ones? Not necessarily related of course other than being a left of field film poster genre.
-
Nice additions, all. I never knew that Ratings posters were ever created like that; never seen one, in the flesh before.
And Renau never disappoints. Beautiful.
-
This just arrived at my cabin the woods.
Got some edging but the artwork by Michael Koelsch is beautiful.

-
Jollyfine Ted, must get one myself..
-
Thanks for the kind words! It's been a pretty banner month for me for sure. I'll be slowing down (I say that a lot) here shortly until the first of the year.
Jeff - As Ted mentioned, it is the same artist from both the Critters and Blue Velvet poster. In my poster collecting, the poster artist is something I rarely pay a whole lot of attention too....for better/or worse.
Simes/Jeff - I'm not sure why I began collecting the MPAA Rating posters, but once I started I just kept looking for them. I'm fairly confident I now own all of them.
-
So nothing as nice as Teds latest, but some of my recent modern stuff.

some EXCEEDINGLY nice posters been got this month by people!
well done one and all :)
been a bit poor lately so not really got much of interest.
i got a cheap lot of 3 "thai" posters on ebay, i need a little help with these if possible?
the first one i dont think is thai at all and is a hong kong poster, but it appears to have some kind thai stamp on it for a shaw brothers movie.
(http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah159/teamweaponss/IMG_1282_zpsdvfh6aeb.jpg) (http://s1379.photobucket.com/user/teamweaponss/media/IMG_1282_zpsdvfh6aeb.jpg.html)
the second i have absolutely no idea what the movie is at all, so if anyone could help with that, it would be awesome! it does have flying ninjas on fire and nudey birds if that helps any :)
to be honest im hoping its for a godfrey ho movie?
i do think its by tongdee though? [but im no expert!]
(http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah159/teamweaponss/IMG_1278_zpsk44xerwm.jpg) (http://s1379.photobucket.com/user/teamweaponss/media/IMG_1278_zpsk44xerwm.jpg.html)
the 3rd is thai i know what the movie is and the artist is Chamnong, so im all good on this one thanks

The titty ninja is "Ninja Hunter" (1987) (or Wudang vs. Ninja)

I thought I had posted this earlier in the month, but looking back at everyone's killer hauls, I didn't see it... must've been the Old Crow talking.
The '65 release of Psycho. Everything about this poster is pretty much identical to the '60 release one sheet except for the obvious snipe. I've often wondered how risque it was for theater patrons to see a half nude, Janet Leigh in her bra on this poster back in 1960.
My sights are set on the original '60, 3 sheet next. Imo it has the best color photo combination out of all of the U.S. issued Psycho paper.

Wow! Wow! WOW! Look at these recently posted treasures.
TED: That LOVE WITCH will keep your Halloween in the woods spellbound.
PAUL: Your fave from your recent batch is also mine. Oooo the new animated BATMAN sequel theatrical poster---Zowie! I need to track one down. LOVE it.
TEAMWEAPON: Your Asian posters are cool (and "titillating". Ha!), but I like the third one the best. Very cool.
CHRIS: Welcome to the PSYCHO re-release club. That's as close as I've come to the first release as well...but it sounds like you are zeroing in on the real deal. GOOD LUCK!!!

I believe if poster art created outside of Thailand was used for a film release, the Thai sensor board would stamp the artwork showing it's approval. There was also a Thai poster for this film that uses the same art but with Thai lettering. Probably for a rerelease.

Thanks, Jeff! It appears to be in close to unused condition, there is a stamp on the back that bleeds through a bit on the bottom right hand corner, but it doesn't bother me in the least...adds character.

The first one of these blew my mind when I saw it, haven't had the opportunity to catch the second two. Who's your mate in the film?

Who's your mate in the film?
Hint: his mate has got his face in someone else's ass.

haha good guess but..... incorrect! he dosnt go near a single ass.
its laurence r harvey, he was the main star in 2 and co-star in 3.
the first movie was good for about the first 3/4 but the ending really spoiled it for me which was a shame.
i have to say that 2 is my fave [im not biased in any way haha]
-
its laurence r harvey, he was the main star in 2 and co-star in 3.
That's pretty rad, man.

he came to oz a while back, I know one of my mates hung out with him, says he is terrific.
-
In keeping with the Halloween spirit - picked up a Nurse 3 - D love the poster movie was so so
-
Excellent taste Damomac! (I have the same poster. Ha!) The movie was only so-so? Drat...That's too bad.

and that escape for NY looks pristine!!! i wish i could afford one of those! NICE!

These just came in from Peter at Movie Poster Exchange.
Luckily, Peter is a pro who bags 'em in plastic, cause the mail-person left em in the snow (first of the season) and they are unhardmed. Thanks, Peter!

Nice terror trio, there, Ted. Ive always really liked that Invasion/Body Snatchers artwork, too.
And whose signature is on the MMM OS? Looks like it's dedicated to someone? WAY cool art on that one, too, BTW. clap clap clap
-
Its Ann Robinson, inscribed to some Steven Somebody or other, prob the collector who consigned it to MPE.
I normally don't buy posters with sigs and I bid without noticing it or reading the description. Duh.
Not at all disappointed. Poster is so freakin' colorful.
All three appear unused, no pinholes, tears.
Very happy.
-
Any idea who the artist is who did Invasion/BS?
-
Ted--we like the same things. I believe Iu have both the top/bottom posters. Not sure about INVASION but that would be something I'd buy (the US one sheets were so boring). Bravo!
-
Jeff- No idea yet on the artist.
Shawn - You have all three.

Hi there. When the APF clock strikes midnight tonight (9pm my time), I'll be posting a bonus Halloween post of ho-hum new acquisitions. As is my custom, here is a sample of what you'll see---not the worst...but not the best.
THE CONJURING 2:

Great B1 pick ups! Especially love that Bill the Butcher and the character Kill Bills. Best of luck tracking down a Go-Go!
Well, a full set of the 4 character Kill Bills came up for auction tonight, was quickly priced out of my league, the Go-Go went for $300, the Bride for $250, O-Ren and Elle Driver $180 each :'(

That's pretty high rates for those, eh? Where were they up for auction, if you don't mind me asking?

This is really a sample of my Nov. 1 post, but I'll tag ity on the end of October to give someone else the spotlight for November.
Just a sample of my post:

Cheers!

I feel that's quite high but the Japanese Kill Bill's (1 and 2) B1s always have a lot of action when they come up for auction. A copy of the Kill Bill 2 kill list (Japanese B1) went for $250 a few months back. The Gogo and Driver were the first time I'd seen them this year.
It was on Yahoo Auction Japan.

Devin, what pushes or makes the KILL BILL material rather pricey, for the most part?

Hey Jeff,
just my speculation but my feeling is...
1) Kill Bill is a "cool" American movie from a respected director which has a strong Japanese connection. So Japanese people want it and they want the Japanese version. Huge generalisation but if something from the USA has a Japanese connection in it, it's news.
2) Whenever Kill Bill B2s and B1s come up there are ALWAYS the same 2-3 bidders who seem to be hoarding most of the Japanese Kill Bill material.
The 3 B1s that I picked up were an anomaly. The seller only posted them for few days and they only had 3 or 4 watchers. I didn't have to get into a bidding battle. I just paid the opening bid price. I was sweating like a hog as the timer counted down waiting for one of the regulars to pop in. Maybe they passed because the posters had some damage on the edges.
3) Often the Japanese versions are posted with a low opening price $10 to $20. So of course, that generates a lot of watches and subsequent bidding. Some of the foreign versions are posted with a higher opening bid ($100 and over) and they've been sitting around for months.
4) Scarcity, these character versions / Kill List / Uma in the Desert just don't pop up as often. The Desert version came up about 2 or 3 months ago but was quickly pulled from auction. I bought another poster from the same seller and asked him about it and he said that the first bidder (at $20) had contacted him and they had made a deal. On a side note, a month later, the Desert went for $900 on EMP, my feeling is that it was the same copy. The regular B1s of KB1 Uma in yellow and KB2 Uma in the bride outfit can usually be had for about $50-70. Another example, about 4 months ago, vinyl banners of the character versions went up for sale, they too went for a crazy amount (unfortunately I forget the actual numbers). Cinemasterpieces had a set of 3 that sold for $5000.
5) Bidding on Yahoo Japan is much like EMP, Audrey Hepburn, Steve McQueen, Humphrey Bogart etc.. are all hard to get. If these Kill Bills, especially the GoGo and Elle Driver, showed up on EMP ($10 says they do...), they'd probably go for $200 and up... Whereas the US 1 sheet for KB2 (side profile of Uma with sword) would go for $20, on Yahoo Japan that version just sits there.
I'm starting to ramble, sorry but, again this is just my speculation, I'm sure that someone like Armin or Matt could give a much better informed opinion.

Didn't Japan also have a different version of the film when released?
(sorry I haven't seen the movie) but I seem to recall, all colour perhaps and more gore (?)
So a poster that is from a superior (?) release might attract some people.

That could be a draw, Ari, the Japanese version doesn't change to B/W during the big fight; here's a link with a rundown of the differences (there were quite a few!)

Thanks for the insight and explanation, Devin. All makes sound sense, as the US material usually seems to fetch good prices, too.

Go Go underbidder. Probably went to Matt I guessing.
