Thinking of all the posters which I have, which would be the one that I would prize the most. Luckily my tastes are pretty simple, or I'm just easily pleased. Anyhow, if I had to get rid of the lot and just keep one it would be 'Midnight Express' uk quad. Reasons.....first x certificate, or 18 film that I saw while underage, plus the first piece of movie memorabilia that I thought ...I wouldn't mind having that....goodness I didn't know how to get posters then so I bought the LP of the soundtrack and slavishly copied the album art (in chalk and charcoal)....I've since become an Art teacher (ffs I have Midnight Express to thank for that).......anyhow if you had to keep only one movie poster what would it be?

Ah, this is easy. As "rare" or "hard to get" as some of my posters are and as much as I have had to pay for some of them, the one that is most valuable to me and the one that I will never give up is my very first movie poster -- the one that started it all for me.
I had been driving to Austin (and to Dallas) to watch Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. The guys at the cinema in Austin started to know me and they would send me email updates about show times and such. As the very last showing of ROTS was approaching, I started to feel sad that I was never going to be able to see this bestest of all best movies -- the one that I watched 18 times in the movie theaters -- I wanted something to remember it by, to try to capture the feeling I had every time I went to see it. I realized that I had to have the poster for it, so I asked/pleaded/begged the theater to give it to me when they called me to let me know about the last showing of the movie. But, they gave me their usual spiel, about how they're supposed to give it back to the studio, etc. (Yeah, right.) The manager said he would try to see what he could do but that he could promise nothing. I arrived for the very last showing at 11 PM a few days later, but my heart fell and I was dejected when I saw that the poster was already taken down. They had apparently sent the poster back or someone in the theater had procured it for himself.
But I watched my beloved movie and forgot all else for a little while. At the end, as I walked out of the showing room, feeling sad and all, one of the theater guys was standing outside at the door holding a poster tube, waiting for me to come out to give the poster to me.
That is my most precious poster. And priceless to me.
(Now, if I could just remember which one it is among the 20 copies that I have of it, then this tear-jerking story would be even better.)

I'm a major Raymond Chandler freak and this is my favorite adaptation of any of his novels. Plus it's also my favorite Chandler novel
my next faves are the 2 half sheets, and the lobby cards, and my foreign posters on the title.. and.. well anything else I have on the title

Elm St quad would be the last poster I would ever get rid of. I have many that are worth more, but that is a spectacular poster for a film that I love.

I don't think I have the daybill on MMS, but I wouldn't be surprised if I do
I know I have aussie posters on Lady in the Lake and Brasher Doubloon (and in diff sizes), but I don't think I won the MMS daybill
and I can't find my pics.. which is one reason I'm prepping to shoot my entire poster collection

I think when Bruce sold it I wouldn't go the $390 freight (2004)
I would now, if one comes up again
to tell the truth, several items I have wanted that I skipped first time around or lost outright, I later won for much less as my competitor was out (seeing as he/she had previously won)
the Brasher Doubloon 3sh Bruce sold in 2006 for $1081 I was the underbidder
I later bought from him in 2008 a top 2/3s for $90. Then last year he had a linenbacked one which I snatched for only $314 - essentially the cost of linen & any restoration it got (minimal fold wear). I saved $767 and I was able to pop it right up on the wall at the office next to the great French 1 grande (stairs style) of Orpheus (one of my favorite films. I'm a big Cocteau fan too) with the fantastic original German BAT in between them (on the original, her necklace is much more colorful & different than the re-issue)
unfortunately, I have no more room to put up the other Orpheus grande (hand style). The two Orpheus posters fight Murder My Sweet for "most prized"

Ahhh, they are truly sinister. Undercover Doctor J. Carroll Naish looks like he's doing his finest Lionel Atwill in the Persons in Hiding art. The typography for Legion of Terror is happening, man. Wow...

I think being collectors it would be hard to pick just one unless like Jeannie we have a personal story behind how we got that individual poster .. As for mine .. I obviously prefer newer pieces over some of the older ones that have been posted .. So dont be offended that I place some of the most recent top picks among some of the classics ! :)

I gave this one a lot of thought. Paring down to one poster is an obscene request for any of us. I was originally going to go with One Million Years BC one-sheet, my first acquisition, but the more I thought about scarcity, importance, etc., I chose this one.

The artwork (or at least the madcap characters across the lower portion of the poster) is by Frank Frazetta. I am unsure who did the close up art of Sharon Tate and Ferdy Mayne. I was considering asking Frazetta himself because there is very little info that I can find on this design. It doesn't look quite like his work -- though I could be wrong. Perhaps one of our more astute members might have some background to share.
Also, this is not my pic (I have my poster hermetically sealed in a fireproof tube at the mouth of a pneumatic tube that will send it rocketing out of the house in event of a fire). Mine has the day-glow orange logo. All in all it is a beautiful poster...

It's funny, if I had to choose one, I would go for the same Fearless Vampire Killers poster. I LOVE this poster. Now that it's been taken, I really don't know. I guess my most prized poster is the one I'm trying to get right now. The rest is in the past.

I do love Fearless Vampire killers, it's a great film one of my top 10 all time films. So an excellent choice poster.

They entered the home and rounded up the eight-month-pregnant Tate and all of her guests. In a killing frenzy, Tate and the rest were butchered to death and the word "Pig" was written in Tate's blood on the front door of the home."
Tate's fate certainly gives the Fearless Vampire poster an added macabre dimension. In more psychological ways than can ever be told, Polanski's ongoing legal pains are tightly linked to the murder.

A friend of mine, who happens to be a well known French photographer, is putting a book on famous murder/death scenes. Last year, we went to Marilyn's house on 5th Helena (here in L.A.), O.J.'s house on Bundy Dr. and we tried to find the Manson/Tate murder scene. Unfortunately, the houses on Cielo Dr. have been moved around, the numbers have been changed, and there is no way to know for sure anymore. They did it on purpose at the time of the murders to avoid an outflow of onlookers.

Thierry, when I partially managed Grafitti comic shoppe in Westwood, OJ came in with Nicole one day. It was before they got married - about 1981-82 or so.
so here I am pricing comics and here they come, OJ first. He-stops-right-at-the-footstop, but does not step at, craning his head in the doorway. I look up & say "Hey.. OJ!" and he picks up a leg and steps in like a Tex Avery cartoon character with a big bounding step. Like a vampire.. he couldn't come in until you greeted him!! Nicole came in behind him.. she must have been 19 years old or something I told myself
anyway, I tell him how much I enjoyed seeing him on screen and etc.. Then he says "what about my football career?" and I told him his career was ending as I was beginning to watch football and that I didn't see him enough to appreciate him.
he turned on his heels and left so fast it was like he wasn't even there to begin with.. what an egomaniac..
you know, his current apartment isn't all that far here in Nevada.. maybe I can stop by and asks if he remembers me??

yeah that's the one.. it's about a 5 hour drive. maybe 6. I understand his rent is very cheap, but he's locked into a contract for the next 9 years or so with no buyout option. The landlord did indicate if he behaves well while on property, he may let him out of his contract a year or two early. OJ is appealing the contractual obligations, but so far the arbitrator hasn't judged in OJ's favor.
But hey look... OJ has a chef that prepares 3 meals a day for he and his party pals and I also hear that he's been playing his old position - wide reciever - so they must have football games in the entertainment rooms...

Oh, that's harsh Rich. I guess the Ol' Juicemeister is learning how to fold linen pretty well by now. I would just hope that some of his younger roommates are teaching him lessons in the finer arts of self defense. I hate to say it, but I'm hoping he'll end like Dahmer... boing to the head...

Schan, where would you put my odds on one of those 40 x 60 Blade Runners. I can't get over that one. The one 80s poster I'd take over all 80s posters.
There's no way of knowing on a poster like that, though I'd guess I could count on seeing, at least one, over the next 5 years.

That's where I was at Carson. It was that image that drew me towards collecting in the first place, and it is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time.
I would say you will see a few come up for sale in the next 5 years. I did not see one after keeping watch for 4 years (not in a condition I would be happy with), and then I saw 3, i think, surface in the past year. I was the underbidder on one Dave (cinemasterpieces) sold on ebay, and then I believe he sold one in his store as well. Then the one I picked up. There was one other a couple of years ago, but it had the crinkles and a 2 inch tear. If I come across one, I will let you know.

Ecstasies of Women (1969) and Linda and Abilene (1969), a lesbian western which remains notorious for having been shot on the Spahn Ranch only months before it became inhabited by the Manson Family.

Spahn Ranch was actually a common filming location and I believe some of the Bonanza TV show was filmed there as well as the Lone Ranger TV shows

Ted posted it before, but since this thread has been bumped, this is still my favorite poster I own. Not the most expensive (or even rarest), but the fact that Sharon Tate got murdered a couple years later, that she was so freakin' drop dead gorgeous, married to Polanski and 8-months pregnant, gives the poster an added dimension I cannot look past.

See, now it's nearly exactly the same layout, but I like this way more than my US insert. The colors and drawn portraits (they even look like the actors!) make it.

I later bought a top 2/3s for $90. Then l a linenbacked one which I snatched for only $314 - essentially the cost of linen & any restoration it got (minimal fold wear). I saved $767 and I was able to pop it right up on the wall at the office next to the great French 1 grande (stairs style) of Orpheus (one of my favorite films. I'm a big Cocteau fan too) with the fantastic original German BAT in between them (on the original, her necklace is much more colorful & different than the re-issue)
unfortunately, I have no more room to put up the other Orpheus grande (hand style). The two Orpheus posters fight Murder My Sweet for "most prized"
4 years later.. finally got the Orpheus up!

I guess this is my most prized poster.
I have shown before, but a small sellers pic I think.
Searching failed to find anything else.

the film means a lot to me, as a kid it blew me away, I often talked about it, and tried in vain to describe the strange version of "pool" or Snooker or whatever they played (I saw a table like it in bath recently though so that was nice). As an adult I appreciate the history of an Early Terence Fisher, an obscure B film, that I cant find info of any release apart from the UK. And I cannot find ANY other paper on the title, as in not even another copy of the quad anywhere. I assume there is more somewhere, and I am hoping there may have been an international release to the colonies and a UK 1 Sheet might turn up one day.
This quad was offered by Greg Edwards for a long time, at a price that while very fair I couldnt manage, but as is often the case the poster gods shined on me one day and Australia got another Pommy Immigrant.

Ah, this is easy. As "rare" or "hard to get" as some of my posters are and as much as I have had to pay for some of them, the one that is most valuable to me and the one that I will never give up is my very first movie poster -- the one that started it all for me.
I had been driving to Austin (and to Dallas) to watch Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. The guys at the cinema in Austin started to know me and they would send me email updates about show times and such. As the very last showing of ROTS was approaching, I started to feel sad that I was never going to be able to see this bestest of all best movies -- the one that I watched 18 times in the movie theaters -- I wanted something to remember it by, to try to capture the feeling I had every time I went to see it. I realized that I had to have the poster for it, so I asked/pleaded/begged the theater to give it to me when they called me to let me know about the last showing of the movie. But, they gave me their usual spiel, about how they're supposed to give it back to the studio, etc. (Yeah, right.) The manager said he would try to see what he could do but that he could promise nothing. I arrived for the very last showing at 11 PM a few days later, but my heart fell and I was dejected when I saw that the poster was already taken down. They had apparently sent the poster back or someone in the theater had procured it for himself.
But I watched my beloved movie and forgot all else for a little while. At the end, as I walked out of the showing room, feeling sad and all, one of the theater guys was standing outside at the door holding a poster tube, waiting for me to come out to give the poster to me.
That is my most precious poster. And priceless to me.
(Now, if I could just remember which one it is among the 20 copies that I have of it, then this tear-jerking story would be even better.)

My favourite poster. A 1952 Finnish release from Laura. Bought this from Emovie years ago and haven't seen one since.
What's interesting about this is the image of Gene is from '52 whilst the film was from '44. You would of thought the image would of been a '44 Laura image of Gene.

I agree that my favorite poster is whichever one I'm currently trying to get, as I tend to become a little obsessed when going after a specific title. That said, my favorite poster in my collection at this point is the US 6-sheet for The Leopard Man (1943). It's not my most valuable poster (I guess the French 47x63 for the original release of King Kong would earn that title), but it's one that's closer to my heart. This is partly due to its rarity (it may be the only one still in existence), its great graphics, and the fact that the movie itself is pretty cool, like all the horror films produced by Val Lewton for RKO in the 1940s.

And no, I picked up The Prize 1P about 3 or 4 years ago. Soubie did a fine job on the art, as he always seems to do, and the colors just pop. That's what also drew me to it.

I have 2 posters that, when the times comes, will be the last to escape my grasp. Both horror, and both for different reasons. One is a THEATRE OF BLOOD 30x40 because it represents the beginning of my collecting "sickness". The short version is I was always attracted to the posters that hung outside of the theatre and as I got older, I would call up the managers and ask to buy the poster. The answer was ALWAYS the same - "no, no they have to be sent back! Nope, sorry, you can't have it." Naturally the more they deny you, the more you want it. One day a friend said he has gotten friendly with a certain theatre manager and that he would sell us posters. I don't believe him, but I tell him I like the poster to the movie currently showing and would like to get it. A week later I go over to his house and he points to something rolled up in the corner. He tells me to take a look at it, which I do. Holy shit! Theatre Of Blood! This opened the floodgates to a 40+ year hobby and business, so it's more the sentiment than the value.
In the mid 80's I ran the movie poster section of a store in NJ. One of the collections I bought was 2 big boxes of 1-sheets and 8x10 still sets. I have the stills packed up in a long comic book box and was trying to decide what exactly to do with them. A collector friend comes in one evening and asks to take a look at the still sets, which he does. When he's done he asks me not to sell any of the because he wants the entire box. No problem. Early the next week he comes into the store and he's got something in a 22x28 frame. He's got it facing him so I can't see what it is but I know it's something good because the other guys in the store can see it and they've got wide eyed expressions on their faces. My friend says "I would like to trade this poster for the box of stills". I respond "well, I was hoping to get some cash for them. What poster did you have in mind?" He puts the frame on the counter; ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN style B. I don't think twice - "OK! You got a deal, son!" The best trade I ever made and I just can't part with it.
