Many thanks Jeff,

Yes I hope it is not too difficult to have the restoration work done.

I would hope to have it restored to look similar to this one if possible.

Great stuff Christian, you have one heck of a collection shaping up.
Out of curiosity do you get a hard time sometimes for collecting what you do, and how do you respond?

Many thanks Vick...

This year has been probably my best so far in terms of top items added to the poster
side of the collection.

In answer to your question, the only one who gives me a hard time is my wife.... ;D
Seriously though, I obviously don't go out and advertise the fact that I collect what I
do, although I know many other militaria collectors who love this stuff as do I.

Let me clarify that it is the history that I love and not the ideology.

Nothing gives me greater pleasure than having a piece of history in my hands
and knowing that I am helping preserve it for future generations.

Cheers.

It is a grey Fez as used by the Bosnian / Muslim Handschar Division. (Yes, the SS used Muslim's as foreign volunteers).

Here is an original Grey Fez, although they also came in Red too...

you are preaching to the choir my friend.  I can certainly relate, although on this side of the world its much more difficult (see expensive) to get my hands on original German material.  I know there are also some symbols that may be more difficult to import in certain countries as well.  To me its clear that the German, Polish etc, material is simply much harder to find so more sought out.  Of course there are people that might just take things the wrong way, too.  Keep it up !

Couldnt agree with you more, Christian. Regardless of the material, we are all caretakers, preserving items for the next generation to come along, and hopefully continue to pass it forward, for years to come.  :)

there used to be a physical store in Menora in Perth (yes, thatsthe suburbn name and yes named after a Menora, and yes a Nazi memorabilia store, and yes its a small Jewish part of perth.
Cripes.
Anyway I used to live in Menora in the 90's.
My then Wife (now ex) had some books, that were actually bound newspapers from Finland during the war. Her Grandfather fought against the Russians (and Nazi's?) sorry I am not good with history. But he bought them to Australia, large volumes of newspapers which seemed to be propaganda from Germany about how great Hitler was.

Anyway we tried to find info on them (this was early days of internet access and it was more difficult.
But we took them into this store, as iot was meters from our house.
The bloke had at least one German Shepard/Alsatian dog, and inside was VERY scary (to me). Flags and weapons etc etc.
He was very interested in buying them, but wouldn't value them, and they weren't for sale, my ex wanted to keep as her grandfather had died and it was about all he bought over from Finland.

Anyway, this story was more about how freaky this bloody shop was in the area it was in.

Good place to live, and my name helped :)

So you bought those posters Christian? Let me let you into a little secret. I had researched that auction ages ago and decided upon my targets but I was so distracted with my son's recent health worries that when I signed in to bid on the day I made one fatal error.

...I realised with horror that I had forgotten to take account of the European time zone being an hour ahead us the UK and missed everything I wanted! Simple schoolboy error caused by copying and pasting lot details without remembering to adjust the start time. I won't be doing that again!

There were quite a few fakes in the auction too... A friend of mine tried to have them removed but they
were auctioned nonetheless. Someone paid a lot for fakes unfortunately.

Grrrr.. that is really terrible.  moron1

Did they reply back to your friend saying that they believed the items in question to be genuine? In any case, if there was any kind of question, one would think the auction would have pulled them - at least this go around - in order to check the items' provenance.

How did your friend ID those particular items as fakes? And what kinds of items were they?

Yes they did reply stating that their experts had deemed them to be genuine.  Doh.gif

That auction house is the biggest for militaria and as such many dealers use it as a way of getting rid of their
dodgy stock. It is unfortunate, but when looking through their catalogue it is not unlike walking through a
minefield, you have to know your stuff that is for sure.

My friend had seen several of the items on offer in the past and knew they were bad. He also had a chance
to view quite a few of the lots prior to the auction. These were posters and uniform items.

So it sounds like even the auction house "experts" are sometimes turning a blind eye, too, to submitted items.   eyeroll

Especially if so called "questionables" are reappearing every so often.

And then there are those winning bidders at home right now with a nice fake in their possession.

whats even more disgusting is your lack of sharing the auction dates/information in advance of the actual auction, and to me, in particular!  :-X  ;) ;D

Fakes eh? Well perhaps it was a blessing I missed out then! Not something one expects from a leading auction house. I did wonder when doing my research why a number of items had been in previous sales but failed and yet been reintroduced. I think at least one poster was in for the third time! However, some of those that failed were I think framed. The question is are the vendors trying to hide something or the buyers unable to see the information they need? One of the posters I wanted was the badly damaged one of the standard.

If you could PM the lot numbers of those that you believed to be definite fakes Christian, I'd be much obliged. I'd be interested to see whether we shared the same doubts!

A new arrival...

A rare poster that was also made as a postcard.

I have only seen fakes of this available until I found this gem...

'Tag der Deutschen Polizei'

Day of the German Police

Large size = 84 x 118 (A0).

Christian, what do the letters above 1941, in the upper right, mean?

Almost looks like whw?

WHW is the acronym for 'Winterhilfswerk' or Winter Relief.

It was a rally to raise funds for you guessed it, 'Winter Relief', and to recognise the service of
the police and secret police forces at the front...

Bitte schön.   thumbup

I already had this 'Day of the German Police' poster in the collection.

There are others around which I would like to add to collection if and
when I see them available.
