Barbarian is pretty great, one of those rare flicks that's definitely worth the hype (better to go into it not knowing much about the plot to keep the element of surprise intact though).  Sadly I hear Halloween Ends is just as awful as Halloween Kills, so I haven't rushed to see it.  I'm sure I will eventually stream it.

A nice selection, MAGG! Hard to beat freebies from the cinema too! Dawn of the Dead in 3D sounds good fun.

I am also looking forward to Barbarian after hearing good things. I watched Halloween Kills last week in preparation for seeing Halloween Ends...despite it being daft (particularly the last 10 mins), I still quite enjoyed it as it's Myers, Haddonfield and has reasonably inventive deaths/gore. Hopefully Halloween Ends is a bit better though.

Hope you're doing ok from a health perspective and thanks for continuing to share!
TOB! Hello! Thank you for the note. I know my post wasn't the best...but it is what it is.
I saw HALLOWEEN ENDS today and... well, the mighty HALLOWEEN franchaise went out with a whimper. I was sooooo DISAPPOINTED.
Thanks for visiting the page.

Hello, Antoine1973! Thank you for your note. I do look forward to seeing BARBARIAN...and what you've heard about HALLOWEEN KILLS is correct. (At least in my eyes. Such a waste for ALL involved--actors, technicians, audience, etc.)

My wife is big fan of Halloween and we had the same reaction.

Halloween (2018) was in my mind the best film in the franchise since the original.  I was hoping Halloween Ends would be a satisfying ending and it just...wasn't.

Yes...such a disappointment. (But you know some how, some way they will bring the HALLOWEEN franchise back--either as a reboot or another sequel.) I'll be sucker enough to go see it, too. (Of course, the 80% drop in box office from week one to week two may have them rethinking the crap they served up this go-'round...) I'm kind of dreading the writer/director, David Gordon Green's, upcoming trilogy of sequels to THE EXORCIST after the disappointments with these HALLOWEEN sequels (I thought HALLOWEEN KILLS was pretty bad, but ENDS was just jaw-droppingly bad.)

Welcome back to the Shock-O-Rama Poster Show! The year is winding down and this is more than likely my final post for the year. (But don't think for a minute that I'll not try to forage on and start working on posts for next year. Au contrare! I actually already have a poster for that post--whenever it happens. I managed to squeeze out 7 posts this year. Last year it was 17. The year before that it was 25. My dwindling output is not due to a dwindling lack of interest. It's simple economics (I'm dead broke.) and my health issues keep me from doing a lot of things (like real, live poster shopping instead of just the online kind.) It is what it is and I'll continue this passion of mine as long as possible.
Things being what they are, while there are a couple of goodies to be shared, most of the post is decidedly sub my usual standards. Beggars can't be choosers.

But let's take a look and see what I have for you today...

LYLE, LYLE, CROCODILE:
You are probably staring incredulously at this first title and asking yourself, What? Is he kidding? Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile? WTF? I do understand the confusion and bewilderment. Let me just back up a bit and remind you of my life currently. I am very poor now. This was FREE. I guess I don't need to post every free thing I get from now on (especially if it is crap like this), but we will save that lesson learned for next time.

DON'T WORRY DARLING (Adv):
More free poster goodness. Well, this poster isn't much to look at. The movie was at least very interesting (although flawed). And when I snagged this poster, I later found that there was a second copy of it in the roll. Bonus!

DON'T WORRY DARLING (Teaser):
Yet another freebie. This teaser is a tad more interesting than the advance above. But I still have questions about the flick.

PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE (British video poster):
I have no idea what I was thinking when I bought this. Just shake your head and walk away...

KING KUNG FU:
Believe it or not, by the time I stumbled on this poster, I had heard of KING KUNG FU. The seller had it listed as KING KONG FU...easy mistake (or perhaps he was trying to trick someone into buying this turd?) I bought it--just because I'm a KONG fan, and this 1976 release was made to obviously cash in on the Dino De Laurentiis remake that year. But--it looks BAD. (The trailer is HERE: https://youtu.be/X3_MMO4730Q ) It looks like a flick that went from here to obscurity...except in my poster collection.

VIOLENT NIGHT:
I don't know what this flick is? A crime movie? Horror? A knock off on SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT? I have no idea---but saw the poster and snatched it up just in case it becomes a hit (or a cult hit). His candy cane is on fire? What???

JENNIE, WIFE/CHILD:
Hot dang! I've been kind of after one of these for years. Poor white trash exploitation fun...even though I've never seen this particular movie. I'll bet it is a hoot.

Q:
A while back I got a poster for this film under the alternate title of THE WINGED SERPENT with completely different art. This is the more common title (Q) and art--at least they are the ones I am most familiar with. I saw this for sale---why not?

A BOY AND HIS DOG:
I've wanted one of these posters for ages. I remember seeing this playing all of the time when we first got cable back in the late 70s or early 80s. It's about a  "boy" (i.e. young man, Don Johnson) and his dog (that speaks telepathically). I don't remember much about it, but I did like it. Getting this poster has proven difficult, as well. The more common poster, the re-release with a smiling nuclear explosion mushroom cloud, is dull. I wanted this original release. Also note that the film takes place in 2024...just a tad over a year away from now.

THE DEADLY ORGAN:
This is my prize this time around! Zowie! Just look at this day-glo wildness! If I understand correctly, this movie hails from Argentina and was also released as FEAST OF FLESH. I actually have a novelization of this flick! REALLY! "Tuned in and turned on..." and framed and waiting to go up on the wall.

That's it for the posters this time, but I've forgotten to share my faux horror movie poster envelopes with you the last several postings. If you are interested, you can check out different batches here: https://monsterago-go.blogspot.com/2022/08/last-known-address-mail-art-10.html

and finally here: https://monsterago-go.blogspot.com/2022/11/mail-art-15-delivery-delayed.html
I am still working on a special UPDATE post I had hoped to get done by now--and may get done before the end of the year--or not. I also have prepared my annual post of my favorite Top 10 poster purchases of the past year---but I'll save that and get it posted later.
Yep, 2022 is just about over. Thank you for continuing to join me this year and keeping the Poster Show alive. I hope your holidays sparkle and are everything you want them to be. Here's to a happy, healthy, and poster-rich new year!

Real-life poster shopping? That must be interesting; reminds me of the days I went to record shows and record shops.  Other than the occasional freebie at a theater, I thought the only kind of poster acquiring is online.  :P

That design for Don't Worry Darling is neat, with the water surface(?) at the top and all.  I'll have to check out the movie, as well as Violent Night - gotta love the alternate Christmas flicks.

 cheers

You obviously aren't as addicted to poster shopping as I am (or was). Yes--real-life poster shopping. I'd haunt certain antique stores that occasionally had them, comic book stores, garage sales/estate sales, etc. That is far too much effort for me now in my current physical state, even combined with other chores. Now, it's simply score at the theater or online. I have only gone out ONCE to shop in the real world since my move. I did spy a VARAN the Unbelievable on linen...but I'm NOT a fan of linen and the colors were all wrongs (as if it faded weirdly or was repainted somehow). PASS.
I do want to see VIOLENT NIGHT. DON'T WORRY DARLING was rather interesting--yet flawed. I did like it though.

Yeah that sounds cool with the antique shops, etc. I've walked past a few poster shops when traveling, but never thought about buying any that way - it'd be like finding a needle in a haystack for me.

Good to see you're staying strong and all.  Always good to see your thread here.

Happy new year and welcome back to the Shock-O-Rama Poster Show! It's the first day of the new year and...what? I'm B-A-C-K with a new post already? How is that possible when I'm so poor? It's called freebies from the theater. (I'm not proud. I'll gladly take them!)
But let's take a look quickly. I know you are hung over and/or have games to watch today. Let's get this poster show on the road...

BLACK ADAM:
I am no superhero fan. I did not (and probably never will) see this flick. Why the poster then? It was a free one.

EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE (Advance):
I have no idea what this flick is about. I'd never heard of it. This was a freebie in a box of rolled posters. I could see the googly eyes showing on the rolled poster, was intrigued, and snagged it.

BROS:
The free poster caravan continues with this thing. Never heard of it. Whatever. It was free.

STRANGE WORLD (Advance):
I bought one of these posters awhile back. I found the art and the world creative and imaginative. I dug the pulp lettering of the title and the faux fold lines, trying to make it look rather grindhouse (for an animated movie).  But if I already bought one, why get another copy (actually TWO more copies)? Because, of course, it was FREE! Thank you Oak Harbor Cinemas!

I'VE LIVED BEFORE:
As I have done too many times in the past--and stupidly did again (when I can NOT afford anything at all), I bid on a bunch of posters for an auction, walked away expecting to get none...and end up winning things I did not need. Case in point--this one. I already have a copy and  this was from Heritage. WOW! It had been so long since I'd purchased from them. I had forgotten how much all of their fees totaled. YIKES! My wallet died again...

RABID:
Same exact story as above (the I'VE LIVED BEFORE poster). Same auction house, too. OUCH.

GHOST STORY/CIRCLE OF FEAR (Screen-worn jacket):
Okay...you have probably NEVER heard of this one season TV horror anthology from the 1972-73 TV season. Aside from it being a failed wannabe TWILIGHT ZONE/NIGHT GALLERY, why the interest in it? Well, for starters, if was produced by one of my all-time fave B-movie icons, gimmick king William Castle. The jacket was worn by the series narrator Sebastian Cabot, who was better known for playing Mr. French, the gentleman's gentleman (i.e. "butler") on Family Affair back in the 60s. A little more than midway thru the season, Cabot's character was axed and the title changed from GHOST STORY to CIRCLE OF FEAR....where it went to die after only 8 more episodes. It may NOT be the most exciting costume piece ever--but I'll be excited about it. I have a dvd of GHOST STORY/CIRCLE OF FEAR somewhere (unless I stupidly sold it off before my move.) I'm thrilled to own this.

WEREWOLF BY NIGHT:
I'm not sure what this is. It's a movie poster--but not for a movie theater. instead, it is for Disney+. I know nothing of this movie. (Series?) But, it's a werewolf flick, so why not? It wasn't that expensive. I wonder if it is based on the old comic book of the same name? It's from Marvel, so maybe...

BLOOD & FLESH: THE REEL LIFE & GHASTLY DEATH OF AL ADAMSON:
To me (and probably NO ONE ELSE), this is a tremendous find. Measuring only 18 x 23 1/2 inches, this is a poster promoting the "world premiere" (and probably ONLY theatrical showing) of a documentary made for Severin, the home media company that put out an Al Adamson boxed set a year or so ago. I didn't get the boxed set (I love "bad movies", but I've seen a LOT of Adamson's stuff already and didn't need to spend big bucks to suffer through them again...), but I DID buy/watch this stand alone (well, it was paired with Adamson's THE FEMALE BUNCH) DVD (or was it Blu-Ray?) when it came out. Adamson made a lot of fun and crazy crap (and it was crap)--and he also did meet with a horrific end. I'm thrilled to have this modern relic. (DRACULA VS FRANKENSTEIN, the second feature listed on the poster, is probably Adamson's best known movie...and it's craptastic.)

ARMY OF THE DEAD:
I am not quite sure what this is. Is it a ,movie poster or an ad for Netflix? The poster states it played theatrically. Is that where I saw it? I'm not sure--but I'm dang glad to have the poster.

And that was my quick ten for the first post of 2023, baby! I hope you have a healthy, happy, and prosperous poster-hunting new year.

CHEERS!

Dude, seriously?

With all due respect, you need to stop whatever you're doing right now and watch it.  Not only will it be nominated for an Academy Award for best picture, along with its directors, but it is a great flick.  Also, Ke Huy Quan, from the Goonies and Temple of Doom?  Best supporting actor this year.  Hands down.

Great posters, btw.  And watch the movie.

THIERRY: Really?? The poster with the googly eyes is a great film? I do live in a rather isolated place and I don't watch TV. Our little theater gets posters and shows previews for things that never show up (like for X, which I scored a few months back, and the BROS thing, and this flick).
Was it a big hit? Wow, I really do live in a culture void these days. I'll seek it out. Thanks for letting me know.
Cheers!

Yes, it made $70 million US which is HUGE for a movie like this.  A24's biggest hit to date.  Some could argue it was a bigger "wow" hit than Top Gun: Maverick" was.  Arguably the biggest success story of 2022.

Great posters and comments as always MAGG.

Thierry - can you clarify something please regarding your table? If the first two films have such a massive "predict win" count do you know why the odds to win for these two are so close to those for the 3rd and 4th films?

Here, best picture predictions.

Thierry:
I also have a question about the table you posted. Where is it from? What was the source? Who are the predictors? That was a fascinating (and illuminating) thing to see. Are there similar charts for the other categories? Thanks!

Predictions are predictions.  There is nothing scientific about it, but I've been following this list for years now and it is pretty damn accurate.

I collect posters for all the Golden Globes, Oscars and BAFTAs best pictures nominees.  I'm sure you've seen my Golden Globes thread.  Sometimes a movie is an early front runner and then drops.  Bardo by Iñárritu is a good example.  Just based on its director, that movie was on every lists early on.  Then it dropped for being too esoteric.  I had to watch it so I could collect its posters (I don't collect if I haven't seen a title).  So I've pretty much seen everything in contention so I could own the posters.  Logic?  No, but it works for me.
