So sorry to hear about the neuro-muscular disease getting worse and robbing you of your passions, Monster. I just wanted to echo what the others have said above, your posts always brighten up the forum and make it a nicer place to visit. I like Mark's idea about re-visiting older posters, it would be lovely if you continued posting and sharing your paper.

Oh my stars! Thank you for posting, Crazy Vick! I somehow MISSED several other people who posted here as well.

STEVE/50s: Thanks for the note. I have been thinking about posters. How could I not? I have slowly been working on another new aquisition post (!?!) (Here is a secret... The theater here gives posters away! Shhh!), but it will probably be MONTHS down the line before I have enough to warrant posting. Then, of course, I can frame what I have and hang them. I hope to get some lenticulars up behind lighted frames soon. (I bought some a long while back and am just now unpacking them...) I can always share that. We will see. Hope you are well, pal!

Crowzilla & Antoine1973: Thanks for the notes. It's nice to hear you enjoyed the thread.

BwanaDik: Nice note and send off. I was gonna steal the gif for future use...but, Ha! It won't let me. Oh well.

Tob: We shall see... Thanks for the nice note, too.

Crazy Vick:  It is I who bow down to you. notworthy.gif You have an eclectic eye for things. You can take over for me, perhaps? Yes---I will definitely try to come back at some point---either with framed/hung stuff ...or my low-rent (i.e. FREE) aquisitions. We shall see... Stay tuned.

CHEERS, everyone!!!!

And...the Shock-O-Rama Poster Show is B-A-C-K! It's been about three months since my last post --- which I totally thought was going to be my final post. I have been occupying my time with a new/old hobby. Years ago (mid-80s -early 2000s) I started doing something on my own that I later found out was a thing called "mail art". Earlier this spring, I "rediscovered" it. Although my hands are starting to be affected by my neuro-muscular disease and I am planning on re-retiring from the hobby very soon, I have been making envelopes to send to friends. Who cares, right? Why mention it here? Because, as a movie poster lover/addict all of my life, most of my envelopes are designed to look like mini, horizontal movie posters for fake (mostly horror) movies. "THE HOUSE ON CEMETERY HILL" and "SLUMBER PARTY EXORCISM" are just some of the titles. If I can't BUY the posters I want--I can always make up my own, right? If you want a peek at my envelopes, I've been blogging them. The most recent one is HERE: ( https://monsterago-go.blogspot.com/2022/07/mail-hold-ordered-mail-art-9.html ).

But back to REAL posters. I do have some today. I have the usual 10 and, believe it or not, NOT all of them suck. In fact, many I am quite pleased with. Take a gander if you please...

THE BAD GUYS:
I know what you are thinking. Why does he need this poster for some animated thing no one will probably remember in 5 years. This poster was FREE. Beggers (ME) can't be chosers. I'll take it.

BLACK PHONE (Teaser):

I am NO fan of the photo poster---but the days of art seem pretty much gone. However, I am looking forward to seeing this adaptation of Joe Hill's BLACK PHONE. I've only read a few of Mr. Hill's books thus far, but he seems like a worthy successor (along with his brother Owne King) to his father's, Stephen King, legacy. I just hope he doesn't inherit the crappy adaptation curse that his father seems to have.  Ha! (And...this poster was totally inexpensive.)

HOLOCAUST 2000 (aka THE CHOSEN) (Thai):
I know I saw this flick (under it's US release title of THE CHOSEN), but don't remember much about it other than it was a Euro-flick and a knock-off of THE OMEN. Not that I needed this--but why not? It was cheap ($12). I need something to amuse me now and again.

X:
Ooooo I wanted to see this when it came out. But, of course, I didn't play anywhere near me for MILES. When I went to the little local theater here on the island to see DOWNTON ABBEY (Calm down. I was taking my mom! Jeepers!), they had a small box in the corner from which they were giving away posters. I scored THE BAD GUYS above from the box...and amazingly, THIS one. I guess it may have been booked at one time, but the booking was canceled or something. The movie never played there. (I was watching for it.) I've still yet to see it---but I am thrilled to have scored this poster--for FREE--for Ti West's slasher flick (is it?) set inside of the porno industry circa the 1970s (???). Sounds amazing.

X... THE UNKNOWN:
I only saw this film sometime last year for the first time. I had no idea it was part of the QUARTERMASS series. The one sheet went cheap--which is the only reason I now have it.

SAVAGE STREETS:
Linda Blair's career peaked with THE EXORCIST in 1973. Since that time, although I will still watch her in anything (even if her acting is sometimes god-awful), her career has been circling the drain, with movies getting worse and worse and worse (Or better, depending on your perspective--but the quality has certainly lessened). Following THE EXORCIST, she was still A-list for a while with BORN INNOCENT, AIRPORT '75, and SARAH T. - PORTRAIT OF AN TEENAGE ALCOHOLIC. Then EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC came...and it was a nosedive downhill from there. ROLLER BOOGIE, HELL NIGHT, THE LOVE BOAT, FANTASY ISLAND. In 1983, ten years after THE EXORCIST, she had a nude scene in RED HEAT. That was sort of the start of a brief B-Movie renaissance for Ms. Blair. SAVAGE STREETS, the next one to come out, is a gritty little exploitation gem that takes its cues from DEATH WISH. On her IMDB page, after THE EXORCIST, SAVAGE STREETS is shown as her  most popular project. Trashy and tasteless, I am thrilled to have this.

THE FUNHOUSE:
I have the other, more common copy of THE FUNHOUSE one sheet (the closeup of the creepy mouth), but this clown version has been ellusive. and far more interesting, I think. Although I might already have one somewhere, I really don't think so. The movie was just okay...but I am glad to get this version of the poster. Hooray!

KINGDOM OF SPIDERS:
Beleve it or not, this is an amazingly hard poster to track down. I've been trying to get one for 40 years! Some have popped up over the years, but they were always torn from my grasp one way or another. This copy is not in the best shape ever, but the movie is a grindhouse classic. A less than perfect poster fits in with that grindhouse aesthetic. It will display fine.

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (1982 re-release):
Oh my stars... I got this about the time I posted my quasi-farewell post. I'd had a bid on it then...and, although I didn't expect to win, it became mine. It was only afterwards that I actually paid attention and saw that it was a re-release. Waaaagh. I paid way too much for a re-release (Money I can NOT afford!) The Force was and was not with me that day, I guess. Into a drawer this goes... Hopefully it will be worth more than I paid for it eventually.

THE INVISIBLE MAN (French re-release):
I should NOT have purchased this. Bad, bad, BAD me. However, I am super happy to have it. I  had the smaller size already, but have the 1-panel re-release posters for FRANKENSTEIN and BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, so I really wanted an INVISIBLE MAN the same size. It did make some money in my piddly bank account disappear (THE INVISIBLE MONEY?), though... EEEK!

And that is it for now. I WILL be back (hopefully) down the road. Until then, happy poster hunting!+

CHEERS!

Really, your mail are really great.   Kind of stuff my wife does, she is member of a few mail group, sending arty mail to strangers.   Where I live, horror genre is badly seen (yeah Satan) and even Halloween products are being confiscated by the authority for promotion of satanic value, ahahaha. I image the face of the postman here if he gets such mail.  Glad to see you are back and productive, kudos!!

I am glad you like them and actually put up a new post late last night (which will be my last mail art post for a while). « Reply #1760 on: September 02, 2022, 01:47:42 PM »
Greetings! The Shock-O-Rama Poster Show is b-a-c-k!!! This time, the posters aren't so great. It's a series of posters for B- (and/or Z-) movies! Yes, it's total trash-o-rama time, a bargain-basement bonanza. (In other words--CHEAP thrills, emphasis on the word "cheap".) O' the horror! Let's take a look...

TIME TRACKERS (Video):
I have no idea what this movie is--but judging from the art, it's some time travel comedy. Actually, I don't even remember where or why I got this. I can guess that it was CHEAP though. (I'm all about the cheap these days...)

WITCHCRAFT (Video):
A few months back, I scored (if you can call it that) a poster for, I think, WITCHCRAFT III. I have NEVER seen the WITCHCRAFT movies, all ( I believe) were direct-to-video erotic-horror cheapies. (I just looked it up. As of this writing, there are 16 in the series! WHY?) While it might be fun to track the actual flicks down and give them a watch some day (or NOT), when this first poster in the series came along--and was cheap--I thought why not?

INSPECTOR CLOUSEAU:
This movie is sort of an enigma. According to Wikipedia, it IS part of the PINK PANTHER canon, but neither Blakle Edwards, Peter Sellers, or Henri Mancini were involved. The film is largely unknown and is usually not included with PINK PANTHER sets (although it was in an "ultimate" set in 2008). I've never seen it--nor have I really need to see it. The poster came along and was (What's that magic word again?) cheap---so...

LONG JEANNE SILVER:
Oh my stars! I am not sure why I bought this poster. (The blue patch is NOT on the actual poster.) It's for a porn flick, but I've never seen it. I've just heard of it/about it. Long Jeanne Silver's uh..."stage name" is clearly inspired by the pirate in TREASURE ISLAND, Long John Silver. And what was Long John Silver noted for? His peg leg. From what I understand, the lead "actress" in this presentation has a natural peg leg, as in she has a stump at the end of her leg--no foot. And, oh my...I don't even want to think of what she must use it for in an adult movie. EEEW! Again, this may have been cheap, but I really do not know why I felt the need to buy it.

MR. HERCULES AGAINST KARATE:
Believe it or not, but this is a difficult poster to find. I got one years ago when I started tracking down all of the posters for various Hercules movies. Only that first copy--the only copy I'd ever seen up to that time--was in poor condition with scotch tape all over it. Blah! This one is in super shape and came to me from... Colombia! Never seen it. I'm sure it's trash. (And yes, the poster was cheap!)

THE TOUCH OF MELISSA (aka THE TOUCH OF SATAN):
I am not sure, but I belive this film was what I saw advertised on TV as a 6 year old in 1971. I remember that ad as my parents both told me to close my eyes so I wouldn't be scared. I did--but only for a moment. I was hooked on horror ever since. Unfortunately, this film is a total turd. I'm not sure about its origins. IMDB and Wikipedia both say it was released in 1971. IMDB lists THE TOUCH OF SATAN as the original title, whereas Wiki says this was the oiriginal name. I am inclinded to believe the Wiki version, as the poster with SATAN in the title talks about exorcism, which really didn't come into vogue until 1973 when THE EXORCIST came out and was a smash hit. Granted the novel of THE EXORCIST also came out in 1971, but only about two months before this flick. I think Wiki got the original title (MELISSA) correct. I knew what it was as soon as I saw it on eBay--and it was also cheap! But I sweated it out, waiting for it to get near the auction's close before bidding on it, thinking I had a rare find. I really hadn't seen many copies over the years...but then I realized eMovie has had a few copies lately in their lot offerings. Ha! There's no treasure here--just an obscure poster for that first fright flick that (at least it's promotional commercial) put horror on the map for me.

TORTURE DUNGEON (Pressbook):
Anyone who has been reading my poster posts knows that for YEARS (long before the Severin box set momentarily made it briefly cool and hip) that I have been a "fan" (if that is the right word--which it isn't, but I can't think of what the right word would be. A "fascinationist" perhaps?) of the works of Andy Milligan. I have copies of all of his horror theatrical one sheets (except for THE BODY BENEATH) and a few of his non-horror posters as well. But I have never had a pressbook for a Milligan film. I was super curious as to what sort of inane description and fake press a Milligan film would have---so this one came up--cheap--and I snagged it.

INFERNO (Spanish):
This is in Spanish, but I don't believe a one sheet in English exists for Dario Argento's INFERNO. I stumbled on this one--cheap--also in Colombia. (The dealer was there--NOT me.) Since there is no apparent English one sheet for the film, I thought why not get this one? Of course, it was only later that I realized that, gee, I already have one. Oh well...

DR. CALIGARI:
I LOVED this very avant-garde 80s flick when it came out in 1989. I rushed to see it opening day, only to be turned away because the film had not been delivered yet. Undeterred, I went back the next day and saw it. It's such an odd, colorful, bizarre film. It's obscure and people either love it or hate it, it seems. I do remember that this is the last movie I saw before I got glasses. I already have a copy or two of this poster. I just couldn't resist another (and it was cheap).

CAT-WOMEN OF THE MOON:
While definitely a B- (or Z-) movie (and in 3D to boot...although 3D is nowhere mentioned on the poster), unlike the other posters in today's post, this was decidedly NOT cheap. Ha! But how ludicrious! Women running around in leotards acting cat-like. Ha! And on the moon, no less. They don't get much more cheesy than this. I am ever so delighted to have this. It's not perfect, but that's okay. I wouldn't trade it for a "deadly cave of forbidden moon-gold!" Ha!

And there you have it--a B- (Z-?) rated post about B- (Z-) movie posters. Just like the no-budget filmmakers of yesteryear, they were living the dream despite an empty wallet. I'm still trying to live my poster dreams, too.

Thank you for visiting.

Hi Hicks77. Thank you for the visit. I'm glad you find my posts entertaining. But I give you the heebeejeebees? Uh, I am pretty sure that I got vaccinated for that, so it must be someone else giving you those. Hmm... Ha!

BTW--NOT that anyone will be interested or want a peek, but about a month ago I posted more of my faux horror movie poster-like envelopes. I THOUGHT I was going to be able to "retire" from that hobby...which appears to be the case at the end of the post. I was caught up on my envelope chores...but do you think that would last? Heck no! There's another post of my envelopes in the works. In the mean time, here is the most recent one. I especially like the last 4 or 5.
Take a look if you'd like or don't. The link is here:

I'll second Steven's comment. I always look forward to your humor and positive attitude. You've also shown me many posters I never knew existed. The effort you put into each post always amazes me. Thank you for your continuing selfless contribution. My best wishes to overcome your recent health issues as well.

DR. BILL: How utterly nice of you to say. THANK YOU. It means a lot to me that people actually like my posts and "look forward to" them. Zowie! As I said in an earlier post, stay tuned. There's some low-rent trash and freebie poster post coming soon...as well as a bonus framing post. Whoo hoo! (Hopefully.)
CHEERS and THANK YOU!
