I read something somewhere that said the parent company for Flickr was bought out by some other company and there were concerns Flickr would go the way of Photobucket. I was leery of going that route and having everything destroyed again, but...since reading your note, I am now FLICKR-fied as evidenced by this old photo i recently came across of my bedroom ceiling when I was in high school:

Tuh-duh!

I don't suppose, T, that you'll grant me editing rights to my thread so i can replace all of the images that are gone? Is that even possible?

Thank you.

I am jealous of your ceiling collection. Do you still have The Burning poster?

That was taken w-a-y back in the 80s. But, yes, I still have ALL of those posters.

It isnt possible to open up just one thread to one member in order to modify a thread.

Simple Machines Forum software isnt set up that way.

You might be able to give Jeff a search and replace rule like for "Thierry hates "French Grande"" replace with "Thierry Hates Thierry hates "French Grande"s"

In other words replace
http://photobucket.com/old/directory/structucture/file1.jpg
with
http://www.flickr.com/new/directory/structure/file1.jpg

Not sure if directories can be mapped easily to have this work

Very surprised to hear there is no way for admins to allow users to edit their posts, it must be somewhere in settings.  If there is, it is indeed the best way forward,  users will then have to:
a) Upload all their images in another image repository platform (Dropbox, Flickr, etc.) which allows hotlinking (I know, there are becoming rare)
b) Go to their history in this forum and edit every single post, replace old photobucket URL with new photo URL.  Sadly, there is no way to automate this as all photobucket URL are made using MD5 Hash generator (these funny code - 54dd11685d504aa2eff075007900b41f )

******************

As explained before, it is possible to fix this.  It seems difficult but somehow easy for any web geek.  For this to work, you just need: a) access to database; b) access to server to upload script-server file (PHP/ASP) (I am pretty sure you have this)

Here it is:
a) Backup database
b) Use a PHP file to do a database request and output ALL posts having photobucket URLs,  save output in a raw file (XML or JSON)
c) Then user a PHP CURL code to open each single photobucket URLS and download image + automatically save it on your server in a folder (using the same structure or another structure).  Then put the new URLs next to old one in the raw file (use a distinctive separator) or generate another raw file (XML or JSON)   (Curl should work unless source code is done in a way to hide the image using Javascript, in that case advanced code like Python/Phantom JS will be needed)
d) Use PHP to crawl the new raw file, and do a simple MySql replace (replace old URLs with new URLs for everysingle post)

b) and d) are pretty easy to code.  c) is a bit more challenging but should be fine if Curl works.

I admire that you think this is a solution that might e considered! Editing database, doing backup, potentially doing a restore causing posts made in interim to be lost, doubt that would happen.

c) Then user a PHP CURL code to open each single photobucket URLS and download image

I doubt you will be able to access/download a Photobucket image as writing code to access it outside of viewing it in Photobucket is the same as hotlinking (accessing externally).

Sadly using free services you have no control over is a risk you take, and I would say an inevitable outcome, having used free websites from back in the 1990's like lycos, Geocities, tripod, Anglefire, Excite...

@50s - I see what you mean, dealing with database is fine though, a bit scary but fine.  Note that it is only querying the database and updating content in post_content, just this.  As you said, Curl on Photobucket is challenging, so Python/Phantom is way to go.  Pretty sure some coders already wrote something.

@Erik - Well, according to manual, it seems there is.

http://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/edu/smf/forum-management/post-settings

https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/SMF1.1:Posts_and_Topics (search for "Maximum time")

You can just change settings of "Maximum time" to xx minutes (try 1,051,200 minutes which is equivalent to two years).  Not the best options since everybody will be affected. If you read the note in the manual next to Maximum Time, it says "Note: This will not effect any user who has permission to edit other peoples posts."

So it is possible to have custom permission for specific users, here is the instruction - https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Permission_profiles_-_an_overview - This would allowed that person to go through all his posts :)

BB, Im well aware of the various post settings options on the forum, including the links you mentioned.  ;)

However, the instruction link you posted, pertains to changing the permissions of Boards on the forum and not individual threads within a board.

And the other option you mention (the time frame) is a global setting, allowing any and all members to go in and edit or change their own posts, even from years ago. The current time frame for members to edit their (new) posts is 2.5 hours (150 min). A time limit was put in place to keep posts from being re-edited long after they were initially written.

This discussion is sort of "hijacking" MAGG's thread, so any further discussion should be held in this board: http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/board,34.0.html

Okay...  I spent TWO FULL days, battling pop ups and other annoyances just so I could download images from my various photobucket accounts. I was hoping to edit my posts. However, since i can't edit my posts, I thought I'd try and go through and re-create them. Here are the first 5 (and yes, because i can't edit, i'm re-doing them on the blog thing. UGH!)  ARGH! It's all so dang frustrating!!!!!!!

Ha! You will not believe it, but where I left on these "recreations" and where I left off on the date I originally posted them (April 14, 2015) to the the next batch of recreations (below), which originally posted April 28th, 2015 and later, you three gents--Steve, Tob, and Ted--were the same three gents who posted while I was in in New Orleans back in 2015. How freaky-coincidentally AWESOME! Thanks for the visits---BOTH times!

STEVE: How do you know about my feet/leg problems? Have I mentioned it here? Or maybe you've gone exploring? Ha! Thanks for popping by.

TOB: Thanks for the words of encouragement. The new blog post is coming soon. I just need to acquire one more poster (I like to post in 10s). Don't be anticipating anything great. They're just bargain basement trash this time. I am poor and, as I've stated before, the Photobucket thing has knocked the wind out of my poster collecting sails.

TED: I think you are playing with me. My birthday is in April. The New Orleans trip was in 2015. These are recreations of my now "blank" posts from my thread (since I'm NOT allowed to go in and edit my old posts). But New Orleans was a SUPER trip and, if you look around on the blog thing like I think Steve did, you'll find several entries about it. I would love to do that trip all over again!

Thanks all of you for bothering to look.

And now, here are the latest "recreations"--if anyone cares to look:

Welcome back to the SHOCK-A-RAMA POSTER SHOW. With this entry I am doing double duty. I'm posting it on my thread on All Posters Forum AND on my blog. That way if one or the other disappears, I'll still (hopefully) have some reference/record. Unfortunately, this "comeback" posting is entirely lackluster. You'll see what I mean as we scroll down and see what I have this time.

But first:

STEVE! Thanks for the visit. I forgot about those highlighted blog posts on the bottom. oops!

TED Nice to see you as always.

Conor Zowie! I hope your hip feels better. They are now thinking the problem with my feet/legs is the result of a medication I've been taking for YEARS. Swell...

Okay--on to the posters. There's nothing much to see. unfortunately. I've been broke and my interest has flagged severely since the Photobucket mess. But--for whatever it is worth--here is what i have this time:

GREASE 2:
Yes, the first poster is for the notorious bomb, GREASE 2. Why did I get it? It was CHEAP! UGH! I've been doing that too often. This and the one below were from Rich's auctions. But truth be told, all of my image problems (Photobucket sucks!) have knocked the wind out of my poster buying sails. When that happens, you end up with things like GREASE 2. Ha!

THE LONG RIDERS:
I am NOT into westerns at all. However, I remembered that my brother liked this flick...so I went for it. I do think it's a unique film in that the Carradine, Keach and Quaid brothers were in it altogether.

MAGIC BOY:
I have no idea about this one...looks like a Japanese animated flick? in Big Screen Magicolor! Zowie!

48 HOURS TO LIVE:
I do not know anything about this flick, but I've seen this poster come and go many times---and i've gone for it in the past, but it always eludes me. Is it sci-fi? Looks like it with those flying space ship things. Cool design over all and this one was scored much cheaper than some of the others I've tried to get over the years.

THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME (British Quad):
Oh, this movie is AWFUL. I saw it years ago with a double feature of (I believe) with a much better sci-fi flick called WITHOUT WARNING. THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME was snore inducing, instantly forgettable, with sets and costumes (and acting and special effects)  that looked to be cast-offs/rejects from the late 70s/early 80s BUCK ROGERS, LOGAN'S RUN, and/or BATTLESTAR GALACTICA TV series or something. I have no idea why I bid on this...perhaps the cheap factor again?

MA AND PA KETTLE AT WAIKIKI:
I've never seen any of the MA AND PA KETTLE films, but this is now the third or fourth poster from the series I've collected. Just because...

THE EXORCIST (Turkish):
While I'd really much rather have the poster for Turkish ripoff of THE EXORCIST (also called SEYTAN as THE EXORCIST seems to have been), I'll take this one for now. It's kind of fun and colorful, but Linda Blair looks NOTHING like the way the artist portrayed her. Ha!

ROTTWEILER:
Also known as DOGS OF HELL, this poster for the '80's Earl Owensby 3D effort is the THIRD one I've purchased for this title. The other two copies were NOT up to my standards. I hoe this one is. The Owensby 3D posters are hard to find. This one is probably the easiest of the bunch---and I have a few others (HOT HEIR aka THE GREAT BALLOON RACE, TALES OF THE THIRD DIMENSION, and maybe CHAIN GANG), ...but there are several others that elude me or I haven't ever seen. I think this is (partly?) because Owensby's films were regional flicks. They never played in my town--just the larger cities and the East Coast and south.  I'm such a sucker for 3D. But I've NEVER seen any of these flicks (in 3D or flat).  Maybe someday...

COMBAT SHOCK:
I have never seen this little Troma flick...never knew it played theatres either, until i came across this one sheet. I wouldn't have necessarily bought this except when I came on it, the dealer selling it remarked that it pretty rare. I thought, okay...it IS probably rare, but I really didn't need/want it. So, i put in a low ball snipe for it...and got it. NO ONE ELSE bid on it. It's probably a waste of $9.99 plus shipping, but... whatever.

THE HORRIBLE HOUSE ON THE HILL:
(Originally known as "PeopleToys" and better known under its third release title as "DEVIL TIMES FIVE"), this low-rent exploiter is not all that special...but the cast is interesting. A young Leif Garrett, Shelley Morrison (Sister Sixto on "The Flying Nun" and/or Rosario on "Will and Grace"), Sorrell Booke (Boss Hogg from the original "Dukes of Hazzard") and Dawn Lyn (Dodie from "My Three Sons") have somehow ended up in this sleaze-o-shocker. I like this title and poster art---which I think is a riff on LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT (The alliteration of the title and the "It's only a movie"/"It can't happen to me" ad campaigns). I do remember when this came out (with this title). Ooooo I sooo wanted to see it. I had no idea that "Devil Times Five" was the same movie until years and years later.  No wonder I couldn't find it. I probably already have a copy of this poster and didn't need to waste another $21 on this, but...  (Hmm. I wonder if any grindhouse ever, accidentally, booked "HORRIBLE HOUSE ON THE HILL" with "DEVIL TIMES FIVE"? That would be funny as they are both the same movie. Ha!)

BARON BLOOD:
Yes, another poster I already have. Hopefully this is a better copy? We'll see. This is a a nifty poster. I don't know what it is that makes it for me---the image of the screaming Elke Sommer (knowing her career was ending, no doubt) or the eyeball hanging down just in front of her. I've never seen the movie though.

That's about it. Ho-hum. As I said, nothing all that great or interesting this time around. I really need to snap out of this funk I am in about posters right now. I still blame Photobucket for it. Damn you Photobucket!  Anyway---thanks for visiting.
