Hi there!

Because I am bored and need to go to bed--but don't want to for some reason (even thopugh i am super sleepy), here is another bonus post of new-ish stuff. It's not the best stuff...I'm saving that for the regular post.

THE HANGING WOMAN(aka BEYOND THE LIVING DEAD and RETURN OF THE ZOMBIES):

I got one of these a while back, but this one is in better condition. This is such an obscure Euro zombie flick from the early 70s with Paul Naschy in it as a hunchback lab assistant, if i recall correctly. NOT a great film, or even a very good film...but as it's a zombie flick, I dig it. The titular hanging woman  (Ha!  That sounds funny just writing it) is only in the very beginning of the film...and, i think, her death was the precursor to some ancient curse--or some such mumbo jumbo. Whatever---who knows what movie goers were expecting with a misleading title like THE HANGING WOMAN, but I'm sure it was not a silly Euro zombie-thon. Ha!

STUDENT BODIES:

This poster and a few others in this post, the 5 from my last mini-posting, and all of the others in the scheduled post on the 15th with the obvious clips holding the poster up for the photographs, were from this little auction house I had never heard of before. One of their (two) big auctions for the month was a horror/monster collection from some doctor who had collected for 50 years. I was utterly unimpressed. It looked more like something you'd find on eBay than in an auction house. There were no WOW posters...just little trivial things like this and the others. I bid on a lot of them---was outbid on some--but really did not spend very much at all. The other items were mostly monster models. Hmm. I wonder if, when i die, my crap will end up at an auction house somewhere? I expected a big garage sale--if anything at all...

Anyway, mini-bargains for me, i guess.

STUDENT BODIES was an early horror comedy--long before the SCARY MOVIE series. The best thing about it is the poster. Although i think i have one already in my collection (which I'll sort through this fall). The poster promises 13 1/2 dead bodies and 1423 laughs. That is blatant false advertising as there are no laughs. (It wasn't very good--really.) But I really do dig the poster!  Shout out to Chris9000 for having similar tastes---and congrats on getting your copy once again!

GOLD OF THE AMAZON WOMEN:

I've never seen this flick--and I realize the Amazons were not supposed to have been cannibals, but I thought this poster would work with my cannibal movie posters---Jungle-y horrors and all.

HULA HULA (Italian 2F):

Here's an Italian poster I thought would work in either the cannibal or tiki corner of the Monster A GoGo Shack-o-rama. Zowie!

THE ROMAN SPRING OF MRS. STONE:

What is THIS doing in the Shock-o-rama Poster Show? Well, I do like both Vivian Leigh and Warren Beatty, but the real draw was Tennessee Williams. Williams was great. His subjects were always defective people with defective lives---but all done with great subtly and the restrain of the conservative 1950s. GLASS MENAGERIE, A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER, CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, etc. They all deal with damaged people in tragically dreary lives. I'm fascinated. Although Williams wrote into the 80s, most of his later plays were flops/critical failures.

THE ROMAN SPRING OF MRS. STONE is an interesting tale with sad characters and situations. Mrs. Stone is an aging movie star visiting Rome, who is also a recent widow. She encounters a woman, Lotte Lenya (who was Rosa Klebb in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE was Oscar nominated for this) plays a woman who can arrange young male companionship. Beatty is the young gigolo (but who has a girlfriend, Jill St. John). So Stone/Leigh falls for the impossibly young man who can never really be hers. It's not the best Williams tale, but again, it was written/made in a more conservative era.

THE FOREST:

I already have one of these--but I bought another. I'll re-sell it later. This is a case of the poster being better than the movie--in a BIG way. The movie SUCKS! But this 80s slasher poster is hard to come by.

JASON X (Advance):

In my last mini-post, I shared the release one sheet for the Friday the 13th Jason in space epic, JASON X. This is supposed to be an advance one sheet for the film. i had NEVER seen this one--so, of course, I bought the lot (it had both posters in it).

Okay--I'm heading to bed now. I'll be back with my regular posting on the 15th.

Hey buddy, thanks for the shout out.... love the artwork on that Hanging Woman! I saw it somewhere not too long ago, and almost went after it b/c of the artwork, even though it bucked my "not seen/no buy" rule.

You ever thought about starting a sight.. I could probably spend hours browsing and drooling over your collection.

I really like these 2.  Great perspective on the first one.  I feel like I wanted to buy it from Bruce recently and forgot about it for some reasons.  Come to think of it, the 2nd one too.

CHRIS 9000. I'm still so glad you scored a STUDENT BODIES. Bravo. I'm also glad you liked THE HANGING WOMAN. It really is misleading as to what the movie is about...and I love the fact they blatantly ripped off the ad tagline from LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT ("To avoid fainting, keep repeating 'It's only a movie. It's only a movie. it's only a movie...") with "For the squeamish, keep repeating It can't be true. It can't be true. It can't be true..."! Ha!

THIERRY, I'm also glad you liked a few of my recent posters in this thread of schlock and dread. I agree with you on the perspective of THE HANGING WOMAN poster. And had you wanted to go for them on emovie, you wouldn't have had much competition from me. As I said, i already have a HANGING WOMAN (I was just getting a better copy) and this was my umpteenth half-hearted attempt for a MRS. STONE poster. I wasn't gonna fight for it. Next time, maybe you'll pick them up. But I'm glad they were both worthy of your attention. I also meant to mention when I originally posted the poster that, even though I like Warren Beatty, he was horribly miscast in the row. They should have really cast a young Italian guy and not had WB play Italian (in tan make-up and cheesy accent). It was more of a distraction than anything. But then, of course Hollywood would have had it's then-current pretty boy in the part instead of some outsider who truly was the nationality.

Thank you BOTH for visiting.

You know, I'm not a big schlock and dread person, so most of these B movie posters are a little too much for me, but the classy ones (or the horror well done), you have my attention.

Hey Shawn, you mentioned that the Jason X is supposed to be an advance... I see EMP has sold this one, describing it as an advance:

Is yours a US (advance) release? What does the line of small text on the bottom right border say? And what are the dimensions?

Might yours be a teaser? Or a commercial poster? (So many questions, so little time...  ;D )

Hi Jeff. I don't know the answers to your questions--as the poster is not here yet. This is the link to the auction listing. I only spent $15 for the two posters in the lot. My saying it's an advance one sheet is based on the auction's listing entirely:

http://www.invaluable.com/auction-lot/-1-c-A4643EB96F

It being a teaser is a possibility as the other poster in the lot is clearly an advance (now that I really look at it).

And now it's 5:30 in the morning. UGH. Time to get ready for work. Groan....

Cheers!

TBD, as they say.. and always love a bit of a mystery.

The auction site says it's also 27x40 so that's cool, too.

I think the US advance sheet is the one shown by Jeff.I have seen this poster before and withhold from buying .I guess it not an advance but the poster came after the movie release.
I may be wrong too   ;D ;D

JEFF and EZHIL: Yes, I do realize the poster Jeff posted (which I posted a few days before the current post) is the advance poster. The other one is the mystery. Is it a teaser or a simple commercial poster or what? No idea. Just going by the auction site's description. Either way, i got both for $15---not bad for only one original...if that's the case. Thank you for your help though.

Hey Shawn..

First, a thanks to Jason (jedgerley) for sending this link to movieposter.com -- and it identifies what your "mystery" Jason X poster is, too. It's described as an "after market, commercial poster":

http://www.movieposter.com/poster/MPW-26155/Jason_X.html

One other style was also produced:  http://www.movieposter.com/poster/MPW-4836/Jason_X.html

Ahhh. Jason get the kudos here. Thanks! And thank you, Jeff for orchestrating it. Just a commercial poster--oh well. The auction site LIED! Ha! I told you it was a smaller obscure auction house and the big auction was like someone's eBay page. Oh well. They clearly are NOT experts and I only wasted $15. I'm over it. But I do appreciate the mystery being solved. Thanks guys!

And considering, too, what movieposter.com sells that poster alone for, you got a deal.  :D

Seems like the auction didnt really know what it was, even tho they consulted with someone about the items and posters.

(And there were very many cool things, aside from posters, in that auction.. from Aurora models, to other resin models.. and all "pro-painted," according to the descriptions).

Gratz again, Shawn.

Hi there. I just survived 3 days (36 hours) of 12-hour shifts. To celebrate, I thought I'd do a little mini-posting before my regularly scheduled posting in 2 days. These are all recent purchases, but most of these are things you've seen before on my thread--repeated buys--so why save them?

THE LOST WORLD OF SINBAD:

Another poster I already have (I think it's in that ancient video of mine showing my framed posters), but I think it's a better copy. Trading up... This Sinbad may seem obscure to you. It's NOT really a Sinbad film. It's a Japanese adventure fantasy film that was redubbed a Sinbad flick when it was imported to the US. That was NOT the original intent of the film makers. I've not since this Sinbad yet, but it would probably be strange watching a Japanese actor playing "Sinbad" after Kerwin Matthews or Patrick Wayne or whoever.

MOVIE STAR AMERICAN STYLE OR LSD I HATE YOU:

And ANOTHER repeat. I just got one of these a few months ago. I LOVE it. The faux Marilyn, the ditzy text {"Who am I?" "How did LSD change my life?"), the colorful, yet cheesy framing. It's just so campy wonderful. This was a better copy (and a CHEAPER copy! Ha!).

THE STUFF :

Ha!  I just realized I "won" this as a multi-poster lot a while back--and never knew it. Not that I needed or wanted it...but, whoo hoo...another poster!

MISTRESS OF THE APES:

I have this poster already as well. I've never seen the flick--but like the poster.

That's it for now---just a little appetizer before my usual posting which should go up sometime Wednesday. Check back then, if you'd like.

And now to get me some much deserved SLEEP!

Good night, kiddies!

CHEERS!

Hi there. We are half way through June. Jeepers!  This year is flying by! Here is my latest batch o' posters.  It's 13 posters, but not all that special. There is a (eek!) repeat or two and some non-horror (gasp!) additions this time out.

Whatever, here they are:

KILLING KOLSUZ KAHRAMAN'A KARSI (Turkish):

Laugh if you want...I DID, which is why I bought this poster. I find it too funny. (But for something only slightly amusing to me, i spent too much on it. Blah.) Dig the action star with the perfect helmet hair, the big bell bottom and heeled shoes--not to mention is martial arts technique (which actually looks like he is caressing his opponent's head. But just look at his concentration). He's fighting a man dressed in a skeleton costume.  Then there's the big-haired bimbo with the big platform go-go boots. Jeepers. Looks like an unintentional laugh a minute. O' if only i understood Turkish, i''d track a copy of the movie down...

MAUSOLEUM:

I've never seen MAUSOLEUM (or the similarly themed?  FUNERAL HOME from about the same time). They never played here. Waaaagh. Because of this, I've always longed for the posters for both (but didn't want to pay much--especially for the FUNERAL HOME poster---kind of dull). I do really like this poster though. The creepy giant skeleton grabbing the creepy mausoleum with the door slightly ajar showing a creepy dark interior while emitting a creepy fog. CREEPY -A-GOGO, baby! (The movie probably sucks though...)

PSYCHO CIRCUS:

ANOTHER repeat poster buy for me---but this one is in better condition (and cheaper) than my original. I find the artwork stunning but I've never seen the movie.

THE THREE DIMENSIONS OF GRETA:

Another poster I've been wanting for years but never wanted to spend much on. I've also never seen this--probably awful--but I love the cool coming off of the screen image in the poster advertising the 3D film. Wow!

THE SKULL:

Glad I finally got one of these (or do i already have one?). The poster I REALLY want that is similar to this that has eluded me forever is "The Screaming Skull". I'll get that eventually--but this is a nice consolation/tide me over poster.

TEENAGE TORTURE (aka TEENAGE ZOMBIES):

I got the poster for TEENAGE ZOMBIES (didn't I? I think i did anyway) not long back. It's a CRAPPY old clunker from the 50s...about as brain dead as its subjects. However--I was drawn to the re-titled poster with different art work. Great verbiage: "Girls in weird terror cages", "Human sacrifices! Cruel! Inhuman!", "Torture drugs! Nerve gas! Bizarre! Sick! Weird!" I wonder how many people were suckered into seeing this...after suffering through it under its original title? Ha!

TRAUMA:

Oooo. I don't know this movie at all (Udo Kier is in it?) but stumbled on the poster and liked it a lot. Sold! I also have a special assignment for Steve with this one. Can you please explain what is wrong with the girl in the red's boob? It looks "double-breasted"---on ONE side. Ha!

FLESH GORDON (Spanish):

Okay--my little Flesh Gordon renaissance is finally winding down after getting this and the next poster. (Still need to track down a US Flesh Gordon 2 though...and maybe the original FG quad?)  This Spanish FLESH GORDON isn't as cool as some of the others--but still fun and has some great little scenes within it. It was also done by famed Spanish poster artist Jano (Attention ROSA, if you are out there....).

FLESH GORDON (Italian 2F):

Oh my stars! THIS Italian FLESH GORDON is gorgeous! WOW! So colorful. I had to have it.

TENEBRE (Italian 2F):

Speaking of Italian posters, I scored this TENEBRE recently. I've not seen this yet (How is that possible?), but I do dig my (early-ish...70s and 80s) Dario Argento. Zowie!

GODZILLA VS THE BIONIC MONSTER (aka GODZILLA VS THE COSMIC MONSTER and GODZILLA VS MECHAGODZILLA):

Hooray! Another of the early GODZILLA flicks (I want them all between the original and GODZILLA 1985), This is the first poster I've gotten for this film under ANY title (I think). The reason for the crazy re-titling is because Universal threatened to sue over the use of "Bionic" in the title (as they were making "The Six Million Dollar Man" and "The Bionic Woman" at the time). The final title--GODZILLA VS MECHAGODZILLA --was the best and most iconic, I think. Yahoo....one more Godzilla poster down. Four (?) more ( VS COSMIC, VS MECHA, TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA, and the original GODZILLA) left to go (as not all of the early films played theatrically here in the US). Oh wait--there's something called DESTROY ALL MONSTERS I need to go with the set as well. Argh. One step forward--one step back.

THE TOOLBOX MURDERS :

I have wanted a TOOLBOX MURDERS poster since the film came out in 1978. (I don't think I had one yet). Such a sleazy, cheesy little movie. I wanted to see this movie soooooo bad as a kid based on the commercials and the poster art (in the newspapers). I had to wait until the VHS era to finally track it down. Now the poster is mine too. Yippie!

THE INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN :

YaHOO!  I LOVE this poster. I won it via snipe while at work. Sure it's not pristine and does have a used look about it. Normally I would have PASSED on it...but somehow the wear plus the cheesiness (green face/red eyes/ lightning bolts around the outstretched arms/etc.) of this 50s drive-in feature poster really worked for me. I totally dig it as is. So grindhouse-y. And jinkies-- 300,000 volts of horror! Zowie!

I know I keep saying i need to cut back/stop spending. But I really can NOT keep this up. I've been buying from Heritage for a little more than a year and when you bring up your history of winning bids, it shows you how much you have spent. Holy crap-a-rama. I won't say how much it was---but i could have so used that money for something else (like paying down my student loans or getting a better car) And that's just Heritage. How much have I spent on the other auction sites? OH MY STARS! It's CRAZY. My extra cash I've had for a while has finally dried up...so i really am broke, broke, BROKE! I really have no living expenses right now (no rent or utilities, etc.)--just gas and food. That will all come to a crashing end when i move back in to my house in September (maybe sooner). I've got to kick this habit... or, at least return it to what it was in my teens (maybe a dozen posters a year...if that!).

Also, there may NOT be a July 1st posting as I will be on a long 2-week road trip with friends. (Hopefully I won't have any posters to share anyway). I'll be gone June 26 thru July 10....and then work a ton o' days right after that (so there may not be a July 15th posting either--because hopefully I won't have time to buy anything. ha!).

Oh well, we will see what happens. Either I'll have something to post or not.

I hope you all are enjoying your summer (or, if down below the equator, your winter!) Have a go-go groovy day.
