No the fellow who gets my new stuff had shown it at his Cinema.

He gave me a bag of about 50 posters and said take the ones you want a bin the rest, and this was one of them..

I have about 40 to bin.. eyeroll

That Queen poster rocks paul!  Will you "really"  bin the other ones? Surely not!

He does come up with the odd Gem...

It's the second bunch he's dropped off, and I haven't binned any as yet, but space is getting awfully limited here.... :-\

This was initially listed in an ebay auction with a starting price of $50 - I had to act fast!

US One sheet 27 x 41 (Rare Style)

One from the Heart took over a year to reach the UK, opening in July 1983. The Lumiere was a West End art house cinema sadly now gone and it seems it was the first to screen the film for a limited run. I just love this image particularly in landscape format. I must have spent 8 -10 years waiting for one to show up on ebay - I finally decided to negotiate with a dealer for the only poster I have ever seen for sale.

UK quad 30 x 40

Mark, many congratulations on those two excellent posters. Any poster with Paul Newman is just a winner. The Quad looks stunning, and in excellent condition.  I assume it was displayed at some point but it looks just in supreme condition. notworthy.gif thumbsup.gif

I've read that that poster was screen-printed... can you confirm that?

Great pick up!

Thanks. I don't have the confidence to say for sure but the printing is bold and simple with just four colours used.

Mark.

If you look closely can you see half-tone dots in the colored sections?  Or are they more or less solid?

Pretty sure its screened, I think that was my general assumption when I saw one firsthand a few years back.

And it certainly has that silk screen look and quality to it. Beautiful!

(And a big gratz, again, to you, Mark).

The fact the colours are solid says to me it's a Screen print, you wouldn't see any dots as such.

The fact the colours are solid says to me it's a Screen print, you wouldn't see any dots as such.

A quick point -- that is probably true in this case, but not necessarily always true.  I have a friend who is a print artist and to do photo-realistic, CMYK prints you definitely need defined half tone dots in each color.  That said, the dots tend to be much larger than those from the offset process and the registration (which is done by hand on each piece) often does line up as well.  Now, if you aren't looking for a photo-realistic result, instead of burning photo-based images into your screen/emulsion (resulting in half tone dots) you can instead burn more crude, stencil like shapes into your screen.  In those cases the ink is applied much thicker and you can more or less eliminate the screen/dot pattern all together.
