Hello from south of France
« on: January 16, 2015, 10:43:36 AM »
Hello !

My name is Pierre, I'm from France.
I've been lurking this forum for some month now, and finally decided to sign up. I've been collecting posters since I discovered some WW1 propaganda at my grandmother's 3 years ago.
I was collecting advertising posters at first, but, more recently, someone I know bought over 2000 movie posters from a dealer that was retiring. That's how it all started..
Most of the posters I have are french ones from the 50's 60's and 70's. I'll post some pictures !

 À bientôt

Salut.

Good name too.  My favourite car was the VW Corrado VR6...

(But then you will say your name has more to do with the wind after which this car was named, than the car itself...?!)

Honestly I had no idea which car it was until I read your post and googled it..I'm really ignorant about cars in general. My grandmother wanted my parents to call me Corrado, that's the reason of my username !

thank you all for welcoming me !

This is my favourite advertising poster. It was in my dad's house since I was born and he gave it to me when he moved out. It is really in bad shape, but I love it. The artist is Tamagno :

What I'm most interested in here are those books.  I know Holiday would go nuts for them.  First editions?  Is collecting books a hobby of yours?

Thank you all !

eatbrie : Not all of them are first editions. Those in the pictures come from my grandmother's house and they are XIXth and XXth-century's books. My great grandmother used to bind books as a hobby.
Those I bought myself are mostly XVIIIth and early XIXth-century books. Here is a picture that shows some of them (Voltaire, Buffon, Rousseau, Montaigne...) :

CSM : Well, the clock on the floor was bought by my Girlfriend, and we couldn't find a spot on the wall where it would look good, so now it stays on the floor..

jedgerley : It's part of this :

Not sure what my wife would do if she bought me a clock and I didn't hang it on the wall.  Probably some very intense fireworks.

On second thought I hope she buys me a clock soon ;)

Welcome indeed! My dear wife is rather keen on disposing of some of my books...which admittedly have started to spill off the shelves and onto the floor. To prove a point she asked me to recite the contents of a shelf the other day - without letting me look at them of course! I couldn't get more than three. Slowly but surely, she is winning the argument...

This is what happens when you prize brains and personality before beauty. If I'd married a dumb blonde I might have been able to hang on to more books... ;)
