I *KNEW* someone would have a problem with Fried Green Tomatoes. Are you the one that's about my age? I can't remember. Yes, someone who likes Hostel would probably like Falling Down but where is your variety? It's like people who only collect one type of poster - how boring. You need to get out there and experience different kind of cinema, especially if you're the one who would rather poke his eye out than watch a black and white movie.. Then again, I would rather poke my eye out than listen to a nutcase baby crying all night... different strokes, yew knor?

BTW, why does everybody hate Fried Green Tomatoes? I haven't met one person who liked that movie. Is it because it is a female "buddy movie"? People react the same way to Thelma and Louise. Nobody seems to have a problem with Stand By Me.

I think Fried Green Tomatoes is a great flick. Kathy Bates and Jessica Tandy are fantastic, let alone the great flashback story that is told.

Secrets and lies, Good Will Hunting, the Road
Absolutely wonderful.

The Road film is as good as the book. And that says it all.

Really? I'll have to read the book. I am still tormented by the scene in the movie when they enter the decaying mansion with people locked in the cellar. This movie hit me very hard for some reason: I suppose because I don't really trust people and I often sense the primal animal instincts behind the façade and know that not only could the events in this movie occur, but that survivors would most definitely behave like this. Because of the movie, I stock-piled my attic with canned food and bottled water.

Secrets and Lies is in my top 20 films.

You must read the book, you will love it. I read it before the film and knew what it was coming when I decided to watch it. And yes, that scene stays with you big time. The book is quite extraordinary in fact i think i read all of McCarthy's books and like them all.

If you read it, let me know what you think about the ending in the book, not different but ... (ending here..no spoilers)

You can appreciate what that scene did to me as an audience member who wasn't prepared for it :o Although there is a sense of foreboding when they are standing on the road looking up at the mansion. It wasn't the actual people in the cellar I found terrifying but the cannibal group who lived there. The actors were terrific and made the scene totally believable. Often, I'll pass homes like this and get that tingly feeling on my neck: I think that's why I love A Nightmare On Elm St so much: there's something about the underlying dark side of suburbia that intrigues me. (I also like "end of the world" scenarios like in I Am Legend - a great film also but not worthy of my Top 100 list.)

Where I live in Australia there are lots of House of Horrors - on a recent trip to WA I visited the famous Moorhouse St - it just looked like any other home in the street, that's what's so scary. There are probably more psychopaths per capita in Australia than America, and that's saying something. The boy in "The Road" reminded me of my mother who grew up in a very rough, working-class neighbourhood in Melbourne where kids went missing all the time. Mom would come home from school for lunch everyday and would have to pass a laneway. One lunchtime when she was six years old, a man pounced out of the laneway and grabbed her - in one hand he had a carving knife and in the other a potato sack. My mother was a big-boned, street-smart kid and she kicked him hard in the shins; she managed to get loose and she ran down the street with him chasing her. Mom says it was like a movie when she got to her gate and it wouldn't open. Just as he was about to reach her she opened the gate and ran into the house and into her mom's arms. A week later to the day the lady in the house next door was stabbed to death: mom lived in a row of terraces in Fitzroy which were identical and she thinks the madmen got the houses confused. They never caught him. Incidentally, my grandma, my mom's mom, was almost kidnapped in the 1920s but that's a story for another time.

I was simply commenting on 2 of several great films on your list mainly because at first glance they don't stand out as "usual" top 100s.

The FGT thing was tongue in cheek.

Why do you go through so much effort documenting Whoopi's best and worse and then shit on whoever makes reference to them? The answer is because you are fucking crazy. You are that guy, with the knife and bag, who tries to grab children. Do you realize that you are an adult, with a house (provided for you), a job (likely also a favor), who called a 9 month old infant a "nutcase baby" because someone called you on Fried Green Tomatoes?

So how about the purpose of this post, Whoopi?  Can I comment, can I ask a question or clarification?  Or would that be "asking for it"?  Is this a "forum post" open to discussion, or just some more of Whoopi's vomit grafitti all over our wall?

Wow, you seem flustered, have I touched a nerve? Nope, I am not crazy and how on earth am I like that man who tried to murder my mom? Just because your child happens to be a nutcase baby who never stops screaming (poor thing) that doesn't mean I wish harm to any child or adult. You're the one letting your own flesh and blood blubber for hours, talk about child abuse. Please stop that, it's cruel.

FYI, my house was provided for me (although I chose it) but my job most certainly wasn't. I spent many years in college and worked very hard for the career I have and I still don't earn very much. If I used my family name and contacts or chose to work in the family business, I'd be a lot more wealthy, that's for sure.

As for Fried Green Tomatoes, my criticism of you is that you fit the stereotype of a 36 year old man, that's all. I bet if I saw your list it would have very little variety of all. Take another look at my list: it would be very difficult to tell I'm a 35 year old man - and that's because I have a multi-layered personality and don't only see things as black or white, which seems to be a chronic disposition of some, I've noticed ;)

What don't you understand? Miro and I were discussing what I think is the scariest scene in The Road. This reminded me of other house of horrors including the one I visited recently in WA. The child in The Road reminded me of my mom who lived in constant jeopardy in what was then an unsafe environment and I gave one example of what she went through, there were others.

Are you scared by what I wrote? Perhaps you have lived your life in a bubble, very sheltered, and like to believe these things don't happen. Well you better believe they happen so that you do everything you can to protect that little nutcase of yours  crying

Curious why anyone would visit the birnie house. I live here and have lived in perth over the years a number of times and can't imagine wanting to go. Seriously curious not trolling.

I'm more curious on the verbal (written) attack on an innocent infant, all because a certain flick, on a personal, "Best Of" list, was questioned or commented on?

Not all will love everyone else's top picks; there is NO reason to get personal with troll-like attacks (unless the desire is to create a specific skirmish in the first place).
