To my new friends in the All Poster Forum,
1st of all, thanks for a cool place like this! It's nice to read about what people are collecting, selling, looking for and love.
My name is Doug Maguire. Back in the early 90s, I worked at a little shop in Boston called Pix Poster Cellar. Maybe some of you heard about Pix from those years? We specialized in foreign material and for 5 years, I was the wholesale manager. Can't say I parted ways with that company on "the best of terms" -- whatever. That was my 20s and being surrounded by movie posters and movie memorabilia was an important time in my life. In those years, I had collected everything from the 90s and tons of 70s & 80s material. Everything was mint and most of my paychecks went back into the register.
It's a long story, but the short of it is, my collection was stolen by a kid I had holding the posters while I lived in my car, attempting to become a part of the entertainment business. Once I got my act together, I asked the dude for my amazing collection back and he told me it was all sold on eBay. He never gave me a penny. I went into a mini depression and quite a bit of shock.
Cut to 10 years later: I'm making a movie about movie posters. It's called
Poster Cellar (named after the cool job I had) and some of the things I've been through with the paper we all love.
Poster Cellar is a drama & I'll be shooting the feature length movie on Super8. It should be different!
So, hey. Great to be here and I look forward to contributing to the forum and also to the movie poster world in the near future. And thank you for understanding that I'm in a final draft phase of a shooting script, but am very grateful to be part of the forum...
Sincerely,
Doug
