Stamp Auctioned by Sotheby's Fetches $9.5 Mil
« on: June 18, 2014, 01:17:17 PM »
http://www.srnnews.com/rare-stamp-could-set-record-at-nyc-auction/

Its interesting to read that the first owner of this stamp was a 12 yr old Scottish boy, living in South America, who found it among his family's papers, in 1873.

The $9.5 million paid includes the BP.

I'd much rather spend that kinda dough on posters and certain toys , for example the He-Man/Wind Raider 2-pack  :P

High end stamps still strong. It's the run of the mill stuff that's slow. When I started in the coin industry there was a dozen stamp dealers on Sydney and slowly we saw them close down. Half the kids don't know what stamps are for these days.
Though sale for coins. I saw a
Decline in kids buying coins for their collection and nearly all of our customers were investment buyers only. A few older people still working on completing sets etc.
the biggest players in the area never take their items with Jen but leave in a bank vault to resell later. We did much business just buying for super funds etc.
I hope posters never go this way. There's no fun in investing unless all you care about is your bank balance.
