To Linen Back or Not to Linen Back?!
« on: April 19, 2014, 03:05:38 PM »
So I picked up this GWTW one sheet at a sale for $18... I THINK I did ok, but more importantly, I love the art and the film.

I would like to hang this one in my home theater.

Now, it says on the tag that it's from the 74' re-release... but then it says copyright 1970? So I'm not really sure when it's from, but assume it's legit.

I am VERY new to all of this and this is my second purchase (first being a linen backed Star Wars poster.) To my eye, this looks to be in really good shape... but there are some noticeable creases and SMALL holes where the folds meet...(it came with a cardboard and plastic sleeve thing that looks like it's been through a war.)

Should I linen back it? Would it make a noticeable difference? Is it worth it?

Also, I was thinking of contacting Dario- from what I've seen, he's a miracle worker with anything he touches.

Thanks for any advice folks!

Nice poster, Brian.

The NSS number in the lower right shows it's from the 1974 RR. Check here for other comp prices (emovie database):

Personally, I would leave it as is... looks mighty fine to me.. but again, its all a personal preference and if folds really bother or distract you.

An older backing discussion thread to check out, too:

you have a $25 poster
if you spend $100-150 linenbacking it, you'll have a $50 poster

or

you can spend the other $100-150 on more posters

What Rich said.

And if you feel the condition is not up to par to be able to frame (which in my opinion it certainly is just fine!) just wait and buy another for far cheaper than the cost of backing and shipping there and back...

Thanks for the advice guys!

I think I'm going to look into one of the snapframes... I could switch this in and out pretty easily with other $20ish posters that I like...

I'll save linen backing and custom framing to something I'm OVER the MOON on...and has some value (Sigh..if only I could afford a Wonderful Life one sheet LOL)

Good call, Brian.

As was mentioned... save the $$ you would have spent backing this one, and put it into the It's A Wonderful Life OS buying fund/account.

It can happen... no doubt about that.

 ;)
