Hey fellas, glad you are enjoying it...(best is yet to come, IMO)..

Part 3

Ok, let's continue the tour of the first room here.

Just after Steve's stuff, and as I am trying to figure out if I should or could purchase the NxNW or Meet John Doe beauties, I see a few more pieces on the wall that further complicate things, financially speaking:

The 451 large Frenchie is so eye catching, its hard not to notice it no matter where you are in the room.  The Bullitt is fantastic, the litho colors just are eye popping.  What to do, what to do...  Here is a better shot of Julie Christie on fire.

Moving on down the wall...

The dealer here was gone when I took these pics, but each time I went back when he was there, I felt like he wanted to fist fight me for some reason, and being the pacifist that I am, I kept on a' movin...

He did have this great Chinatown OS example for a mere $75!  Probably could have even asked him to go down on that, but as I said, the vibes weren't right.
Chinatown!  $75!  Damn...

Now onto this back wall.  I did not get pics of all the booths and dealer items, and in this case am skipping a few booths.  This guy had a large stock of newer stuff...70s on up to now.  His prices were very high, bordering on both ridiculous and insulting.  $400 gets you a beat up Caddyshack OS, maybe in C7-C8 condition at best.  Return of the Jedi, hundreds.  You get the idea...

Also, one of the guys there says to me "whats up".  I say, "Oh, not too much" and smile.  He goes/sneers "Uh, yeah, I would have already guessed that!", spoken as he stared straight ahead at his cohort in a weird way.  Um....ok......NEXT.

The guy on the phone here had some pretty incredible and full binders of stills.  I am not particularly a still collector, unless one catches my eye, but this guy had swarms of people like white on rice going through his wares at various points when I was there.  Really classic stuff, things like Rita Hayworth wearing next to nothing in wardrobe test stills, Veronica Lake not being ugly, stuff like that.  I saw two dealers at once in a semi-friendly bidding war over a stack of photos, the winning bidder took his new stuff and promptly laid them right up front of the edge on his own table.  Gotta love it.

Towards the back of this section.

The Ali fight poster and Peter Pan banner you can see is part of Cory Galberson's booth.  Wish I got better pics of his booth, he had some great stuff as well.  Almost went all in on a Go Ape! 30x40.

Some pics of the middle aisle in this section...

This insert for The Stranger is a beauty...it is signed, and no matter what you think of that, its a great piece o' paper.  Should have grabbed it and sprinted outside..  Wink

Tons of great movie and movie poster books for a fraction of the retail cost.  Also, this dealer had some Criterion DVDs for next to nothing.  John Cassavetes box set for under $40!  Nuts...I think I paid like $119 for mine.

As I was about to make a few more rounds I decided to go upstairs and call a friend of mine, and check in with my wife...you know, test the waters a bit before a huge debit surfaces on the bank statement.  As I go upstairs, I see signs for 'More Dealers, Poster Gallery, and Live Auction on the 6th floor in the North Tower".

I hang up and begin the quest to the northern stronghold...

...to be continued...

It's nice to see someone actually take some time and effort to do this. To me, this is fantastic advertising and something the people putting the thing together should have been doing every year.

Nice work, keep on goin!

Honestly, I give this best post ever. It's that fun to see all the paper and what one of these shows is like in such a well paced walk-through format. It really feels like walking in the front door and then turning left and right. It reminds me of Harry Caul's fantastic adventure to that dilapidated old theater and the walk through of his wall pieces in his home. Most enjoyable. Thank you, Ben.

I definitely want to attend one of these now. I just wish there was one in my state. I could attend one in Vegas or NY quite easily if there's one there. I would have absolutely bought that The Paradine Case feat Ann Todd. Anyway, I'm going to find one I can attend. Hopefull the rumors about the B.O. being ripe in these showrooms is just rumor.

Was The Bruce there? I heard he was. Does emovieposter ever have a booth? I can't believe a Dark Knight and Harry Potter Banner got some wall space there; that's cool, just surprising.

Really appreciate the affirmation, here fellas.

Glad you are digging it, Carson.  I stared at The Paradine Case for a good long while.  Wish I had a better pic of it, but that place was overwhelming.

I think Ann Todd looks a bit too much like Queen Amidala for her own good...maybe the underlying reason you are drawn to it, my friend?  Wink

Part 4 tomorrow, its been a long day, and I need to get some sleep.  Part 4 is a doozy so get ready.

I agree Ben, very good stuff.  I strongly considered coming up myself, but the fruit at the poker table was way too ripe.

A Ha! Busted, at long last. Really quite insightful. Yes, beit Natalie, Catherine Zeta, Selma Blair, Penelope, Parker or Audrey Tauts, I certianly have an unconscious magnetism; a fixation with brunettes. See Angela Jolie in Changeling for further. looking forward to part 4!

Part 4

Ok, so I follow signs to the north tower and pass through a long hallway filled with confused people looking for the same thing.  Seems like there shouldn't be any confusion, just get to the damn 6th floor.  I walk in an elevator, stuffed with people on the same trek (Wolfman, The Thing, and Alien t-shirts led me to this deduction, Watson), and usually this sardine effect in elevators freaks me out unfortunately, but the awaited treasures upstairs are beckoning and so I clenched my fists and walked into the pile.  As I avoid the closing doors and take my only spot a few inches from a guy's nose, I see a sign taped on the elevator wall: AUCTION, GALLERY, and MONSTER BASH ON 6th FLOOR!  Cool, let's get there before I start to have a nervous breakdown which is becoming more of a reality as the elevator hasn't even started its rise yet.

I decide to cancel any slight chance of a jolt from the machine causing me kiss this dude, so I turn around, just in time to see the doors close (YES!) and notice the buttons that only go to 4 (NOOOOOO!!).  The elevator instantly seems much hotter than it was at that point (it really was), and much tighter, and we head towards the 4th floor for no reason.  Someone points out, "Why does this elevator only go to the 4th floor??".  I allow, "I know, and why did someone place that sign in here if it only goes to the 4th?".  People start to shift, and I instantly think of Elaine Benes stuck on that subway, getting ready to lose it...classic Seinfeld.

The doors open on the 4th, some guy jumps out like free bird, another jumps in saying how "you have to take the other elevator from the bottom floor".  So I close my eyes, and we get to the original floor, and I want to find the guy that designed this elevator and kick his dog in the teeth.  One guy walks out, absolutely livid, and remarks about how "bull shit that was" and literally slaps the ice vending machine with his hand.  Wish I had it captured and ready to go on you tube, its hilarious as I play it back in my head, especially since he looked just like Newman with a fanny pack and was goofy trying to sound mean...ok, no more Seinfeld imagery.

Enough of this (come on, its kind of entertaining), I did get to the right elevator and get to the 6th Floor of Happiness.  The doors open, and I see:

I get to the hallway here and I turn to my left and to my right, and I literally was shocked, I felt my mouth drop open.  The entire hallway, and its no joke in terms of distance, is filled on either side of hanging posters.  Not just the main walls running down the hall, but each little entry to corresponding rooms, each little alcove.  If there is space, there is a poster.  Just literally crammed full.  To get the full effect I walked down to one end to take a picture for the full effect.  I try not to pay that close attention to the stuff I am passing, as I want to size up each piece individually.  As I get to the end of one side, I pass several rooms full of even more postes, more dealers, and hear the sound of an auctioneer.  Overload!
Here is the view from one end of the hall, an instance where a normal camera would have been more efficient.

While I did not take pics of everything, here are some quick visuals as I made my way down the hall.  Some shots seem too close, blame the narrow space I had to work with in this case.

This Bruce Lee poster is all kinds of cool...look at him!

The first room on my right is open, and no one is there, but a bunch of posters sure are.  I quickly realize that all the posters here and in the hallway are stock from the auction.  Each poster has a number on it for said purposes.  There were a few rooms like this, auction stock rooms, but here are pics of this first room.  This first one was more of a contiunation of the hallway gallery as it was just the stuff on the walls.  Three Sheet City, very neat.

The next open room off the hall had even more posters, but was more of a literal stock room for the auction.  There were a few people here and a registration booth, as this was the auction's HQ.

Can you spot the poster that does not belong?

Some individual pieces that caught my eye on the wall in this room.  Gog three sheet is pretty nifty.

I will break this up the adventures on the 6th floor for the sake of load times and since I have to step out for a bit.
Next up is the rest of the Poster Hall and individual pics of this space, the auction, some ridiculous six sheets, more dealers and their wares, and a final review.

...to be continued...

Great, great, great...keep it coming!

So many posters, so little security!  Don't know if I could stand having my posters hanging on every wall in such small quarters without my watchful eye?

The End

Here is the rest of the pics that I took.  The upstairs was so neat to just walk around and see how much stuff the auction crew hung up.

The auction itself was amiss for several reasons, IMO.  The reserves on the vast majority was way more than that particular poster might go for on its best day in the best auction format between two buyers who want it most.  I didn't understand that.  I avoided participating in the auction, except managed to go in and see the six sheets in the back of the room (awesome), as well as the lots pass on by with no interest at an alarming rate...at least for the duration that I was in there.

Last pic is The Bruce.  Sorry for the stalking photo, Bruce, but I didn't want to interrupt and had a pressing call that urged me to get back home to help a neighbor in need.

Thanks for reading, folks.  Hope to see some of you there next year.

And Rich, your offensiveness isn't what drives me away...that is way too much credit than your posts deserve.

Be good, peeps.  And stay away from my Mondos!

This guy was just staying at the hotel and was freaking out on the phone as he walked down the hall...

Wonka, your posts on this thread were top notch.  Good work.

Even though I don't know the vast majority of the movies that the posters are for in the pics, your posts have compelled me to make time in my incredibly busy schedule to attend Cinevent next year and possibly other events like that.

Yeah. That was great. Looked at the pics a handful of times.

My favorites are the To Catch A Thief and the For A Few Dollars More in the halls.

Is this event in Ohio every year? Are there others like it? I used ( still do if the right players are there for autos) to attend sports shows and I know they travel and they have different events.

oh there is no doubt that Wonka posted lots of great pics.. and he gave you fellas a pretty good idea of what to expect at Cinevent.

I highly recommend that all collectors go this show for more reasons than just buying etc.
The reality is that if younger collectors don't start going - the show is going to disappear as will all conventions except for those populated by younger collectors.

Cinevent's average age has got to be 50. as time passes, more of these collectors stop going for a variety of reasons from they have what they want to the costs of travelling to even death, which most assuredly is an impediment to going. But things evolve and the younger collectors are needed to keep the show alive for the next generation.. Come one come all..
