Author Topic: Post your Indie/Art House posters!  (Read 1400 times)

Lately, I have had less and less desire to watch anything that would probably be later sold at Walmart in a huge cardboard stand by the teenage girls/boys gym wear (read: blockbusters) so I have happily delved back into Indie/Art House mode, and since I just opened this tube with some corresponding stuff I just received, thought it would be interesting to see what other folks had in this category.

These are just a few to get the Art-House-O-Rama going:

Everlasting Moments.  DS.
Powerful film, really creative.  I really, really dig the poster too...it makes more sense when you see the film.  Google the trailer.  This one in double sided was not easy to find at all.

The Girlfriend Experience.  SS.
I know, I know, I am late on the GE train, but was happy to get this for what I did, plus I bet some folks wouldn't mind looking at the downright cool design again.  Will get the DS at some point, no rush.
Was surprised as to how much I actually dug the film...much more than I thought I would.

Happy Go Lucky (advance). DS.
I like this chick in the movie...

The Maid. DS.
This film was a treat, I personally thought it kicked ass and I am excited to see what Silva comes up with next.  Very well done.
The poster works on every level (again, it matches the film perfectly).  Not impossible to find, but not a walk in the park, either.

An Education. SS.
I dig the simple design that matches the time period.  Nothing too crazy.

Seraphine.  DS.
This poster was tricky, damn near impossible to find in this style.  It is actually about 28"x41" which is unique.
Cool film, too...the acting is incredible, check it out.  Anyone else have this?  From what I hear, there are hardly any out there.
One that has to be seen in person to really be appreciated.

Sorry for the grainy pictures.

Would love to see what others have!

Great topic.  I'll be sure to try and dig up some.  I know there's more than a few on the site that collect these.  The Girlfriend Experience I've regarded as one of the best posters put out in  years.  Happy Go Lucky is a cool one too - here's the other style that I have for that one:

Good call Ben - just got some of these in this week - finally found a couple of Ebay dealers that stock these - the posters are vastly superior to the "mass market" movie posters:

SOME OLDER STUFF TOO:

Holiday, that's the regular version which I also have...it seems like the advance should be the regular/final and vice versa, doesn't it?
I just liked that you posted that one right away, random but fun.

Great line up there, Mel.
Savages is a good one.
Miss Pettigrew, classic, the look on Francis McDormand's face is just great.
Shall We Kiss? I almost picked that one up...too funny.  That guy loved his job when they were taking that promo still, that's for damn sure.
Sexy Beast, I bet those colors are awesome to see in person.
And I will have to pick up that Manufactured Landscapes, something about it....

I have a feeling this thread might make me go after this stuff in earnest...I really like the movies after all, and the hunt is much more intense than usual stuff, thus the reward is much more fulfilling.

You're right on that.  If you hadn't told me, I would have thought they were switched the other way around. they're both goo posters.

I'm hoping this will be a long-lived thread -- it's a good one with a lot of good stuff that can be posted.

Here's two more:

Uh...I need those posters...both are fantastic.

This stuff is going to cost me some significant time and $ which I didn't anticipate to the extent that I now figure.

You're in trouble now, Ben.  But, in a good way.  You're right that they're more difficult to find but there also greater thrill in finding them when you do.  For me, I try to grab them as soon as they come out. Even a month after that and they're tough to find.

Does anyone in the group know who the artist of this poster might be? It was created for an 80th Anniversary showing of FRANKENSTEIN at the Plaza Theatre in Atlanta.

Thanks.

Who doesn't know his subject, as that is Karloff from Bride of Frankenstein...

Not to mention this 1950's Belgian re-release poster for FRANKENSTEIN, featuring Glenn Strange's image on it (and Karloff's name). Talk about a major creative and artistic blunder!
