One of the researchers at the Library of Congress recommended this website:

http://mediahistoryproject.org/

http://mediahistoryproject.org/fanmagazines/

They have scanned in 800,000 pages of public domain magazines obtained from Library of Congress records.  Pretty cool stuff.

YES! An amazing resource. I have spent hours downloading stuff from there also. The biggest resource, for me, has been the early copies of "Variety" which are being released to the public on this site as they enter into the public domain realm.

Louie, I happened to pick this up, about 15 years ago, or so. A copy of the first issue of Daily Variety, (Vol. 1, No. 1) which came out on September 6, 1933. I found it in a Goodwill-type store, in a box with a bunch of other old newspapers.

As a side note, Weekly Variety debuted in 1905, in NYC.
