Dave Lieberman has excellent authentication postings on his Cinemasterpieces site about these.

My thoughts & questions:

(1) The Scarface fake includes the GAU logo, which is scary.  That's the first high-quality GAU logo reproduction I've seen, excluding the Star Wars bootlegs, which supposedly were made from original printing plates.  How was the faker able to reproduce this so precisely without the original printing plates?

(2) Why did the faker not include the hash marks?  That's such an obvious difference.  Why go to all the trouble to make a near-perfect reproduction and omit them?

(3) Who made these?  "The fake [Scarface] one sheets originated in Europe and come from the same bootlegger responsible for the fake Spiderman recalled US one sheets. He sells them in bulk to dishonest dealers all over the world."

Update: Bradburied is selling a Scarface without the hash marks.  His explanation to me:

"No but that means nothing despite what you read on the internet from some crazy dealers. Many, many original movie posters do not have those. That is no way to tell and original poster. The key for Scarface is the size. The Scarface reprints are smaller than the original 27" x 41" size. Like close to 27 but more like 40" or 39 1/2". Sincerely, Randy"

Any thoughts?

The answers to all 3 of your Scarface one sheet bootleg questions:

How was the faker able to reproduce this so precisely without the original printing plates? I don't know! But he did. It is WELL KNOWN among dealers that there are full size 27" x 41" bootlegs of this poster.......and it is definitely one of the highest quality bootlegs out there. The paper is the main giveaway imo.....it just isn't "right".

Why did the faker not include the hash marks? Laziness? I really have no idea. We can only speculate. If you think about it, the majority of people interested in buying this poster would not even know to look for this.....so the bootlegger probably didn't think they were important. Just like the bootlegger who left the gau logo off the Star Wars teaser b bootleg. At the time.....a potential buyer would not even know to look for it....so maybe they just left it off out of laziness.....again......I'm just speculating.

but.........just to confuse everyone even more  Kiss.........original Scarface Advance "Coming December to a Theatre Near You" one sheets do NOT have hash marks.

Bradburied is right when saying that many many original posters do not have hash marks.........BUT........all original Scarface one sheets (not Advances) should have them.

Who made these? Egbert always claimed it was some guy named Francis in Europe.....but that is the only time I've ever heard a name associated with them.

Thanks for info, Dave.  I'm sure that Bradburied knows it's a fake too.  Very disappointing....
