It could be a mistake on our part.  Every day, Holiday and I get dozens of emails informing us that a new member has joined the forum and is waiting for approval.  99% of these are fake/spam and immediately declined.

If we have made a mistake, and if your request is valid, please email me at Eatbrie@hotmail.com.  It will be immediately rectified.

[Holiday's adding this on October 20, 2010 -- you can also email me at hollyrus at yahoo dot com just in case the Cheese misses  his email]

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thierry

Now I get why Thierry posted this.  Recently, we've had a handfull of folks that got ground up in the rejection of spambot registrations.  Sometimes, when we're sifting through them, we miss a real person who's trying to register.  HAVE NO FEAR!!!

If you are facing a problem where you've been rejected, then let us know.  We ONLY reject spambots.  There's no requirements for membership here except that you breath air....

If you have a registration problem, email me directly at:  h o l l y r u s s AT y a h o o DOT c o m

Obviously, delete the spaces and put an "at" symbol where indicated, and a period where indicated.  I have to do this or the webcrawlers will pick up my email address and start spamming the hell out of me.

Can you believe this crap?  In the span of 15 or so years since the web has really come online in a big way, we have to deal with spam, spambots, webcrawlers, spiders, viruses and such.  WTF!!!!

If you would simply approve them all, might you not have as many "members" as a certain other forum?

Thems fighting words, a certain ground nut will be upset.
I have to say, I get only  about 1 a week at NS4.

It's non-stop.  I open my email and there are 10 people waiting...  So annoying.

To answer your question, Bruce, we would probably have over 1,000 members by now.  This said, I don't think this is what is happening on the other forum whose name I shall not mention.  I think members are made up.  A lot of them only post once, introduce themselves and disappear.  I think they all come from the same source.  This is what I think and I am entitled to my opinion.

I don't see where this issue came from.  In any event, you can't post as a new member until you're approved. And, as Thierry pointed out, we get a bunch of new registrations every day but they are mostly spambots.  I check each registering IP address with stopforumspam.com and, if nothing comes up there, I do a google search of the IP to see if it's noted as a possible spambot.  If there's any doubt, I err on the side of caution and reject the registrant.  Otherwise, we could get all kinds of ship posted if we miss the spambots -- viagra, penis enlargement, porn...

Wait a minute.... I think I've been doing this all wrong....

1,353 members have joined the forum.  Which means that Holiday and I have had to reject more than 1,100 of them, all spammers.  Every day, my email is full of "A New Member Has Joined" messages.  Sick!

We're at 2230 registrations now, with only 196 of them for meat people.

And that number might go down a little once I cut dead branches.  Not only do we make mistakes not approving some people, but we also make mistakes approving them.  A lot of members have never posted, or even showed up on the forum.  I already got rid of 25.  More to come.  So if you signed up more than 4 months ago and never participated, your account will be deleted.

The last thing we want is to have 4,000 members, and only 3 participating (MPF style).  BTW, I know I said it before, but I'm still amazed to see 200 + people on MPF at all time.  I think Neal, far from being s Goodfella, set up the counter at 200, no matter how many people are on.  Another way to fool potential advertisers.

Alright, esteemed guests and nolurkers, if you're ever so inclined as to join our little group of crazies, please CHOSE A NAME THAT MEANS SOMETHING, either your FIRST NAME or an ALIAS, but NO WORDS AND NUMBERS.  Words and numbers will be systematically DELETED.

We get so much SPAM, we're always trying to find new ways to select people from BOTS.

And if you're reading this right now, don't be shy and participate.

I have been denying entry to a lot of people lately, mainly because their names/emails looked like Spam to me.  I'd say at least a dozen entries a day.  I know I said it before, but if you are legit and want to join the forum,

PLEASE USE A READABLE NAME.

Example: Ted4562z will not get entry.  TedS will.  You don't have to use your own name, just something that sounds like a name.

Thanks.

I'd like to join this forum, please.
Is R2D2 or C3PO acceptable?
