Thailand
« on: August 26, 2013, 09:23:01 PM »
I'm heading over there later in the year,
Anyone know if there's places to buy posters ?
I've never collected Thai posters, but if there is a store to go to I'd be in in a flash.
Long shot perhaps. But never know.

Check this thread which sadly turned into a car thread - http://www.allposterforum.com/index.php/topic,6763.0.html

I went there in August, great guy to meet.

The link Charlie posted is correct, it is called "Classic Movie Poster" but then good luck to find it, it took two days to find it (because of language barrier and the shop is totally unknown).

Well, first of all, if you are in the hurry, then Siam is the place to visit (small tip, do MBK mall or Bangkok Art Center (BACC) in the morning time because shops in Siam usually open afternoon time)... if you go there in the morning, it is kind of dead.

The address is very very correct - look for Lido Theatre at Siam Square Soi 2... the Lido shopping mall is an old three storey building full of small stalls selling clothes/vernishes inside, and surrounded by stalls as well.  The shop is located in a tiny corridor linking main street to one of these external corridors surrounding Lido.

Good luck because it is very hard to find; I asked to 50 persons and none knew about it.    As for me, I bumped into a tiny art gallery on second floor of Lido Theater called ArtGorillas - http://www.artgorillas.com/ - and the lady, who speak English and is art oriented, knew the place. (guess what I did all corridors of the mall except this one, damn)

The guy is called Santi (note the address there is not the address of the shop but his personal mail)

Great, thanks, I'm going with a lady who says she not only knows this place well, she goes every year, but she has been to the store before. So hopefully it will not be too hard.

Hey Ari, I've been to Thailand 3 times now.  If I were you, I'd stay away from Bangkok (really, really gross), I'd go north to Ayutthaya and Chiang Mai, maybe go trekking if you're into elephants and leeches between your toes (we spent 2 weeks in the jungle with locals and no electricity, awesome!), and then I'd go south to Phi Phi and avoid Phuket at all cost.  Unless you love touristy shit, which I despise.

T

PS: The store in Bangkok is really, really tiny (like a closet) but the owner keeps the best stuff at home and will cross the river to get it to you.

Thanks, one of the girls I'm going with goes each year and she has it all planned, I remember we are going to Chiang Mai for sure,
She usually volunteers at some elephant sanctuary or something and knows Thailand very well, so apart from Bangkok I believe most of it is quieter rural areas and jungle.

Ok,So I managed to find the very hard to find poster store in Thailand.
Sorry for pics,mi didn't take them myself. And the shop is a broom cupboard, difficult to get any pics as the walls are a few feet apart.
He was a really nice person, and also took photos of me, haha

Nice pics!  Was that Apoc Now standard size or was it the 2-panel. Great poster.

Standard size.
He also had a lot of American and Italian posters. First time I went a bloke was buying a DJANGO Italian 2f, but as the shop is so small, I couldn't fit in with the man and his customer, and he said I should come back another day. HAha.
Bloke also bought an Italian ONE MILLION YEARS BC,I watched through the door, think they thought I was a weirdo. But when I went back with cash he liked me.

Yes, Bangkok is crowded, very polluted and there are some less than desirable places to visit but i wouldn't call it gross.
There's always something to see.

Who called it gross?
I liked it a lot, I liked other places better, but I'd happily live in Bangkok.
Only thing I didn't like was crossing the road, mand the proxy road where all the idiot tourists go and eat scorpions and drink too much and see ping pong shows etc.

Oh I see the gross comment now.

I went to Chang mai, very nice, and us Hin, also very nice, koh pangang which was lovely.

Bangkok was my least favourite of the lot, but I don't mind it. It has character,
