Each time I search for a poster on Ebay (a recent one that is), I have to go thru pages of their stupid reprints. I can't take it. Can't someone, somewhere, legally take them down, once and for all?
Holiday, how many posters did they steal from you?

I seriously want to know what does it take to print your own posters ?? Like Alamo .. what do they have to go through to commission a poster .. I mean I dont think they just ignore it and get away with it since the whole Halloween incident .. And the same for movie goods they have to have some kind of a deal or loop hole they are just too big for the production companies not to notice .. And maybe on just the slimmest chance they are getting away with it and its illegal .. They have tons of Star Wars stuff! I dont care who you are Lucas wil not let you steal from him even if its mere pennies and its for a good cause !

I know that some of the titles have reverted to public domain status (W.C. Fields "It's The Old Army Game", for one), so they can print to their hearts content, but many of the movies they issues are still under copyright.

There has to be SOMETHING we dont know ... I get the public domain stuff .. But again i revert to star wars because Lucas is the greediest SoB I can think of .. All of the stuff they have there Lucas would live up in their a** .. He would own that business!!! Josh Budich did a Vader piece for a Star Wars show at a gallery .. Fully sanctioned by Lucas and his cronies.. Everything was hunky dory until Josh made up 100 screen prints and had announced he was going to sell them on his website.. Then they rained down on him and the day before they were to go up for sale there was an announcement due to copy right issues he would be unable to sell them .. If Lucas Inc will go to those lengths over 100 fan posters that were originally allowed for use in an art show .. Hed rain hell on movie goods!!! For those who havent seen it this is Budich's Vader piece .. Its really wonderful in person .. Pics just dont do it justice !  |

Do you folks know any good lawyer in the US who specialize in copyright laws? these moviethieves (sorry moviegoods) are selling poster which I own copyrights for.. Someone published it in high-res on the internet and they simply make reprints, illegal reprints and they sell them little cheaper than my originals. Ebay pulled their auctions few times after I reported copyrights violation but they relist them and constantly sell them on their site.. They print everything they find on the web in high-res. I need a lawyer. This is serious request. Easy money to grab for good lawyer.

Seriously, You would be justified in paying big money to retain a lawyer for this.. Not only could you force them to stop selling, pay you for the sales of your material they have already sold and add on some zeros for potential lost profits over all .. Im sure someone actually knowledgeable of the law could think of more but thats a layman's look at it ..

Let me contact some lawyer friends of mine and maybe they can recommend someone. In all honesty, someone could do a class action suit against them for the blatant violation of so many copyrights, assuming there isn't a loophole they can do this under legally (or quasi-legally)

In my case they make reprints of poster which in original has my copyright information printed. I consigned the artist, paid for artwork, paid for printing and I am seeing my property stolen by moviegoods contantly on their site. AND NO, i don't want them to sell these posters. They do crap quality prints and people who buy from them think that they are buying legit posters printed in such crap quality. There is no matter how many they sell. You know how much it could cost you to sell ONE stolen piece of copyrighted material? It dosn't matter how many they sell. Even if they sell just one copy - it is theft of copyrighted material. And in my opinion thieves should be in jail after they pay for damages (even only potential damages) There is one site on the web movieposterdb.com which has tons of high-res poster images which are used by various thieves to make reprints for ebay.. This is source of most of the ebay reprints you can see for sell. Thanks for any help you can offer. best Krzys |

Sorry Krzys for coming across the wrong way. I am by no means saying I agree with moviegoods or movieposterdb. What I was saying is that the longer stolen art stays up on their site, the larger the suit a lawyer can justify.

I just heard back from a friend of mine that's done copyright law, and here's what he said: "Normally a cease and desist letter stops this kind of behavior. Recovering damages is something more difficult to do. You have to get a court order for their sales numbers and determine it based off of that. Unless it is thousands of units it would not cover fees" Does anyone have a list, or put one together, of material that is violating copyright that I could give him?

I've never understood how they continue to get away with this. They clipped a pic from my site for a Kill Bill Japanese subway poster. Cj turned me on to that fact, and the frakers didn't even bother to remove my watermark from the image on their site!
What's puzzled me is that some of the studios are so aggressive with enforcing VERO rights on ebay and even with direct sellers (dale can detail this for sure), why the hell does Moviegoods get to continue selling. As big as they are, it would seem to me that they are an easy mark for litigation by the copyright holders.
We as a group, though, have no standing to sue them. We don't own the copyrights and only the copyright owners or their assignees would have standing to sue for the reproductions. Trust me, if we could, I'd sue them just for shits and giggles and to help make a name for myself in the world of copyright infringement litigation.
If anyone can shed some light on how it is that they get to do what they do with impunity, I'd love to hear from them.

that would be a hoot! What's funny, that watermark is taken from a NeoPets animal called an eliphante. My kids, when they were younger, used to frequent newpets.com and I would have fun with it with them. It reminds me of that time. If moviegoods were to print the poster with that mark on it, and actually make money with it, they'd be guilty of copyright infringement and trademark infringement! So, I dare them!

Hi Erik, I simply comissioned artist to make the design, paid for the work the artis did, quite often paid for the original artwork and paid for printing of the poster. I am publisher of the poster. On some of them there is my website name as copyright owner and on some of them there is my real name - Krzysztof Marcinkiewicz as editor and copyright owner. So far I published 32 different poster. that's how it looks, Krzys. |

Only Fight Club is mine. in fact design of this poster is a work of both of us. Two other titles designed by Michal Ksiazek are comming in 2010 (or maybe more if I have enough money). All other of his posters were published by other people/theaters/galleries Krzys. |

All I want from Moviegarb is for them to stop using "MOVIE POSTER" in their eBay auction headers and replace it with "REPRINT". That's all I ask.
It's a reprint, put the word reprint in the auction header or don't list.
