all too frequently, items that are restored or items that need restoration are not fully described or shown in a way to make certain that people really know what they are getting. Myself, I'm all for disclosure, so much so that when I listed this auction today for the Searchers half sheet, which I had restored for this sale, I included a full description as well as photographs of the pre-restoration poster
http://www.movieposterbid.com/itemdetl.asp?id=105881I should hope that all auctioneers would institute such a philosophy (when possible) so that buyers can really know what they're getting.
here are the photos of the poster from the listing
as well as my description:
Condition or Defects: This poster has been restored using what is called a "starch-backed" method instead of the more common paper-backing method. One difference is that the poster has a more actual feeling, closer to the original paper and unlike paper backed half sheets, this poster can ship rolled.
Pre-Restoration Defects: the poster had many small creases, especially in the top area. There were a few small pieces of tape on front in the border areas. The back had paper tape on the top & bottom borders and the horizontal and vertical folds as well as 2 more vertical strips. There was no tearing or paper loss. The poster has been restored beautifully by Mario Cueva at Lumiere Poster Restoration. We have provided comparison photos so you can see the before & after. The poster nows look absolutely beautiful.
