Original Paramount Pictures One Sheet Poster for the film noir classic THE BLUE DAHLIA (1946) starring Alan Ladd, Veronica Lake and William Bendix. Directed by George Marshall from a screenplay by Raymond Chandler, the story concerns some vets returning from wartime service in the Pacific who get mixed up in some Hollywood mayhem. The film was the third pairing of the Ladd-Lake cast. This one sheet has proven over 20 years to be one of the most favored film noir posters. Colorful yet atmospheric, it is perhaps the best portrait of Ladd in film posters, rivaling the great THIS GUN FOR HIRE but without such a steep price tag. This poster has some restorative work done to it. The poster is backed on linen and has some skillful but modest painting to deal with distressed areas. Please ask for details. Original United Artists One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Robert Aldrich film noir, KISS ME DEADLY (1955) starring Ralph Meeker, Albert Dekker, Paul Stewart, Maxine Cooper, and Cloris Leachman. The film tells the story of a doomed hitchhiker (Leachman in her first theatrical role) who pulls Private Investigator Mike Hammer (Meeker) into a deadly whirlpool of intrigue. It raised a scandal when it was released - and the ire of the Kefauver Commission who sought to characterize the film as lurid and subversive. The film proved to be a major influence on subsequent filmmakers of the French New Wave as well as American cult classics, REPO MAN (1984) and PULP FICTION (1994). This one sheet poster was a theater-used example but was not badly treated. It had modest wear and some border tears but color was vivid. The poster has now been linen-backed and restored so that it presents very well. We have graded the poster as fine plus.

Original Republic Pictures One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Joseph Kane musical western, RED RIVER VALLEY (1941) starring Roy Rogers, George "Gabby" Hayes, Gale Storm, and Trevor Bardette. Roy helps local ranchers raise money to build a reservoir, but then the money is lost to a gambler through a crooked stock deal. Roy sings some songs and eventually recovers all the stolen loot. And leaves behind this gorgeous poster, which far outstrips the film, I'm sure. This original one sheet poster is linen-backed and in near mint condition.

Original Italian Two-Foglio (39x55) for the Sergio Leone western, A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS (1967) starring Clint Eastwood, Marianne Koch, and Gian Maria Volonte. Eastwood plays a wandering gunfighter who plays two rival families against each other in a town torn apart by greed, pride, and revenge. Leone had directed films before, but this film was his first foray into his own recognizable style and into a genre that he helped to revolutionize and with which he became forever synonymous. The film also marks the first brilliant score of Ennio Morricone. Unidis is the original Italian distributor and some of the posters have their logo. This poster, also to the very best of our knowledge original, does not. Why some posters have the UNIDIS logo and some do not is unclear. Nevertheless, this poster is generally accepted to be from the first release. Condition is fine plus. This poster is unbacked and would look wonderful if linen-backed. MovieArt Austin guarantees this poster to be, to the best of our knowledge, a first Italian release poster for this very famous film. MovieArt Austin will sell NO reproductions.

Cool art by Struzan there, Kirby. Any idea how or why some of these OS were printed with much wider side borders? The bottom border looks wider, too, seeing where the NSS and printer's info is located, compared to your copy.

Since both measure 27x41, was the artwork size slightly reduced (I don't mean cropped, as the edges of the art look identical) on the version with the wider borders?

Don't know that either.  But several times, when I have noticed this it is on titles that are not from major studios.  As if the printers that the producers contracted with were maybe out of the normal channels for the production of one sheets.  It's unknowable!

I guess it would be the old fashioned ruler test, to lay one of each out and measure the artwork plate dimensions.

Shot on location in San Francisco, the film is the study of one man's violence against women. Franz gives an extremely convincing performance as a sex criminal released from prison for assaulting women, only to feel compelled now to kill women with a stolen military rifle. The film received a single Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay. This original one sheet poster is folded and in fine plus condition.

This is not on our website yet, so there is no URL.  And I have only a small image of the 24 sheet ripped from a pressbook.  The pressbook is duotone - monochrome with yellow, but the 24 sheet is likely printed with some other color.

The film is a British film directed by Ken Annakin.  Any reasonable offer respecting how old, odd and specific this poster is will be considered.  The poster was never used, so condition is pretty good.  Details on that are available. contact kirby@movieart.com

Universal Pictures Original One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Jerry Hopper comedy EVERTHING BUT THE TRUTH (1956), starring Maureen O'Hara, John Forsythe and Tim Hovey. The plot is typical sitcom material. A child played by Tim Hovey has been taught to tell the truth at all times. But when he tells the truth about an uncle who has taken money from a crooked politician, the proverbial you-know-what hits the proverbial fan. Hovey is the particularly interesting person here. He was a successful child star from 1955 to 1959. He came to the attention of audiences in the 1956 film TOY TIGER. But like many of the child actors who worked in Hollywood, his life was shaped by forces that may have been somewhat glamorous but were also relentlessly demanding. In his later life, Hovey worked as a road manager for The Grateful Dead. He later served as chief audio engineer for the band. He died of an intentional drug overdose in 1989.
