Cine Vog Films - the posters
« on: May 05, 2013, 10:25:44 PM »
Following some recent discussions about how to identify Belgian re-releases/ reprints, I have read here and elsewhere if a Belgian poster has "Cine Vog Films" marked on it, it is a reissue. Maybe that is the case. Can anyone can clarify?

I have a couple of such posters.

Heritage sometimes identifies them as reissues, sometimes not

Here is where some of my confusion lay... The movie for the following poster was released in 1958 according to IMDB.com. Yet the poster seems to have a date of 1958 on it so I would assume the poster is not a reissue.

I know they had posters made for re-releases, but maybe they also did some for first releases? I guess the only way to check a poster as original is search the web for it and see if there are different versions of it available, looking for one with the correct film studio name on it.

Just typing out loud - but in your example Steve that film was a French release (i.e. not a Hollywood studio release) so maybe it's possible Cine Vog had first run distribution of Belgian/French films but only 2nd run for the Hollywood studio & UK releases?

Ok, thanks guys. So if it says Cine Vog, that more often than not means it is a re-release but sometimes it can be a first release.

I think John about sums it up. Though I do find the term reissue a bit miss leading.

If it's for a re-release of the film it should be called a re-release. A poster can be
reissued during the second release, so it's still a first release poster, but reissued,
if that makes sense... Happens quite a lot with Quads, and belgians. As John says
make sure the distributor is correct also, I'll post an example shorty.

One of the beauties of buying a Belgian poster with censor stickers, or Venues printed
on the top, is you know at least it is a genuine poster, just not from which release. ;)

Steve.. here's a first release and later RR for Rebecca. In addition to the Cine Vog name, the UA logo was also added to the later version, on the lower right:

The Paradine Case (1947):

First Belgian release:

Later RR
I've seen this described as both a 1950's and a 1960's re-release.

JR's write up was a great find 6 months back or so when Rich had all those Belgians up for auction...
