Looks like The Bionic Ninja (1986) poster folks decided to tear into the original design used for The Howling (1981)

Two posters for the film, King Kong Escapes (1967)

The one on the left, titled "Bionic King Kong Escapes" was described as an 'asian' poster, tho it is all in English, and there was another image on the back that looked more Indian. The poster on the right is for a release of the film, in Yugoslavia, likely from around 1976 or 1977

Both posters are totally using the John Berkey art design that he created for the '76 remake of King Kong.

On the left is the US pressbook cover for the movie, The Haunting (1963) with Julie Harris. And on the right, an Australian daybill for the UK horror-comedy, called Horror Hospital (1973), with Michael Gough.

What is seen is the obvious "lifting" of artwork that was created 10 years before, for a completely different movie, and using it on this daybill. Even the letter "H" of both the word "Haunting" and "Horror" is almost identically copied, font-wise (as well as its placement).

One can almost make out the masked-out (covered over) word, "The" above the word, "Horror," on the daybill, as well.  Doh.gif

That's a good one, Jeff.

Not really stolen art, but perhaps very similar concepts - The recent One Sheet for The Witch is pretty similar to the One Sheet for Kiss of the Spider Woman

Hey John (darvish), I noticed a bit of "borrowed" art design on the Egyptian OS for the movie, Wife's Confessions (1956) and the art that was originally created and used on the Eva Gardner/Bogart OS for The Barefoot Contessa (1954):

Do you know which artist did the Egyptian poster?

I always liked the image of Gardner on the Contessa poster, so when I saw the other, just this morning, the light bulb kind of went off.

Here's the 1953 Swedish poster for Ingmar Bergman's Summer with Monika:

And two years later, some lazy bastard lifted that pose for the cover of this 1955 Italian sci-fi pulp

^ Sure is a bastard. Those 3 characters on the magazine all look out of place together. I wouldn't be surprised if the other two characters are lifted from somewhere else as well

There's a Tumblr page that has compiled a great list of these knock-offs, most of them older Euro/Italio movies. There's one image in particular that seems to have set off a chain reaction, leading to multiple rip-offs.

You can find that article here (http://bit.ly/2a2PwJK), and the rest of the plagiarized lot here (http://bit.ly/29XDZzI).

Great links there, camera.  thumbup

Especially the ones that show smaller detail images that were borrowed, like the screaming woman's face from the Motel Hell OS and then used on the Japanese poster for Scanners.

Hi Jeff,

That poster was designed by the late Hassan Mazhar Gasour (1925 - 1992), the greatest of all Egyptian poster artists.

Thanks for noticing!

best

Jeff it is hard to post too many pictures of Egyptian posters without getting into Gasour's work, because he almost completely dominates the field most years 1940-1980.  I've already posted several of them, which I'm sure you'll be able to find. I'll be posting one of his later designs (1990) next time, which will be either late today or early tomorrow.
