Spiderman 2 Doc Ock ComicCon onesheet
« on: March 28, 2013, 10:52:19 PM »
So I know at the time there was a huge debate on the 1st / 2nd printings of this poster around the ComicCon convention, and that there were some differences between the two, the first printing being more "pink" than the "red" second printing.  I also remember microscope images that although were pretty obvious, obviously required a microscope to see.

Does anyone know how to differentiate between the two printings with the naked eye, i.e. something I could ask a seller to point out to me before I buy?  I already own two copies of what I understand were the 2nd printing, but not having a microscope, I can't even be sure of that, let alone buy another copy of the printing I already own from someone who can't tell me.

Any help would be appreciated, as I am both interested in obtaining a first printing if in fact I own a second, and selling my second copy to someone who is interested in only a first printing.

Thanks!

Good question.  I don't remember seeing the authentication you are referring to, but I have two versions.
One (I assume is original) that is single-sided with a white border and pink lettering; the second is a borderless (full bleed), licensed Zig-Zag reprint with lettering that is more red.

The bootleg printing is full size, SS, and has white borders, but the lettering is more red than pink (like the commercil print, I'm guessing).

So, it sounds like I have a worthless bootleg to go with my worthless commercial.
Ah well, it could be worse.  I got 'em for next to nothing.

Exactly.  I have both somewhere and it very clear when you put them next to each other...  Original/Pink, bootleg/Red.

So, then white border with pink lettering is authentic?

That was what was believed to be true back when they were floating around.

It seems then that no one, including myself, knows how to differentiate between the pink and red styles unless both are in hand. Bruce pulled his auction for one in the past when I asked him to confirm why he was sure his was original. I do wish Dan would post because I am pretty sure it was he who researched and confirmed the existence of the red lettering reprints back in the day.
