Shipping posters that have been glued to wood!?!

I'm looking at some posters that have been glued on to thin wood. They need to be shipped from the US to the UK so I'm wondering what there chances of survival would be? I also imagine it could become very expensive to ship. They're 1-Sheet size glued onto 5mm ply. Any advice on shipping/packaging greatly appreciated.

To me 5mm sounds thick and shipping a few or more together sounds very rigid. You'd need some kind of protection over the face of each poster like an abrasion resistant plastic sheet of some sort. I guess also make sure the corners are protected from denting. It sounds like it will be heavy and cost a lot to ship.

Can you find a restorer close by to their current location and have them shipped their directly?  Then they can be removed, properly backed and sent to you rolled. This all implies they are worth enough to restore...

Thanks for the comments. I had thought about having them removed before being sent to the UK but wasn't sure that was even possible. I have no idea what there worth is, but probably not great. Having said that I would be prepared to spend some extra cash if it meant they ended up in my collection!

What would they cost not on wood (or could they even be found)?

If you could find them, you almost surely would be better off just buying unrestored ones.

Unfortunately they are almost 1 offs. I'm sure there will be more copies, but I wouldn't imagine many. This doesn't mean they're valuable or desirable though.

Sky, remember, too, that unless the posters had been glued to the wood panels with some kind of water based adhesive, even a restorer may not be able to remove them. They might be permanently attached.

I've been advised that it would be a big undertaking to remove them from the wood and be an expensive and difficult job. I think I'm going to go with the shipping as they are method. I'm still concerned that they'll get damaged but I think that's the risk I'll have to take.

If packed correctly should be ok.
But shipping costs might really scare you.
But I guess that all depends on now much they are worth to you.

I did a quick quote on USPS and it came to about $100 per poster, which if they arrived in the same condition they left, I'd be happy. In terms of what they're worth in general, not much at all. In terms of what they're worth to me, priceless!?!

Well my 2 posters arrived today. Thankfully only had to pay £10 VAT but them again they did cost £200 to ship from the US!?! At least they arrived in the condition they were sent.

That's why I'm intrigued. One of the great things of forums like this one is getting to know what rocks everyone's boat. Charlie just posted a Breakfast at Tiffanys he got recently -and had been looking for several years-. It's a poster I personally don't like at all, but it makes me happy another collector gets what makes him happy.
