Even a quick look through her gallery and it's readily apparent that composition and her use of shadows/reflections are some of the strongest aspects of her photography.  Very cool stuff.

Photography is my other hobby and a friend sent me this link to a new documentary on Vivian Maier.

http://www.findingvivianmaier.com/

I had heard of her but never got around to looking through her work in earnest.  This second link is to her primary reference site, it's amazing.  If you are at all interested in street photography you should check it out.  Really amazing stuff for being more-or-less totally unknown until after her death.

http://www.vivianmaier.com/

From the movie synopsis:
Why am I posting in this thread, you ask?  While perusing her images I found the following.  It's from her color self-portrait series and that's her framing Warren Beatty :)

I am assuming you heard about the recent storage find of her work? Some dude scored an entire box of negatives and such at auction for like 3 bills...turns out its some of Vivian's stuff and its worth a small fortune...heard half a million.

Anyway, yeah...her work is AMAZING.

That's identical to the Cooper theater in Denver.  They even use the same photo:

Oculus (2014) is pretty darn good.  One of the best, recent horror movies, IMO.

West coast premiere of This Is Cinerama

With picketers:

Double Bill-- Frankie and Dracula, starring Bela Lugsi  ;D

Two nice 3 sheets on either side of the doors, the banners above, as well as the Frankenstein poster on the sandwich board, there on the sidewalk, left. It looks like a 40x60(?), when compared to the height of the guys standing right next to it.

The Odeon Theater with 2 styles of 3 sheet, OS's and LC out front for the CB DeMille film, Don't Change Your Husband (1919), starring Gloria Swanson. This was also the first movie DeMille made with Swanson.

The RKO Jefferson Theater, NYC, Nov-Dec, 1931:

The Globe Theater, on Broadway, NYC. This is kind of a curious image, imo. The alleged date of the photo is 1934. What is interesting is the large poster above the marquee, advertising the film, Frankenstein The Killer, along with that great image of Karloff.    thumbup

The theater to the right is also playing a film, but it is showing the 1930, Tod Browning movie, Outside the Law, with Ed. G Robinson, so that didn't help to date the photo.

Is anyone here aware of Frankenstein ever being referred to by that title, even briefly, around this time?

Right?!  It boggles the mind.  BUT, if people did know, then much much more paper would have been saved, meaning many copies would be floating around, meaning the price would plummet like a stone.  I don't really care though, I would still love to own a Dracula Style B for 1,000.  Hell, I might go 5k  ;D

Every time I look at this poster, I fail to see Lugosi.  It looks like Grandpa Munster to me.

There's that copy in NY floating around... you just need to have a handful of zeroes shaved off the price.  rofl1

The Tampa Theatre in 1942.

It opened in 1926 and according to this article, it was "one of America's most elaborate movie palaces."  It's really cool going to a theater like that.  I saw Under the Skin there last week.

Here's an article with some great pictures of the Tampa Theatre and some interesting info. about the history of movie theaters.

Wow, that is a beautiful looking cinema. I wish there was one like that where I live. I hanker after cinemas from the 80s/90s that were closed down and turned into apartments, let alone something like that.
