A few pics of the newcomers

PROFONDO ROSSO - D. Argento - 1975 - 2fogli - art by Symeoni

Great looking additions, Orfeo.

And gotta say, did the designer borrow on (was inspired by) this artwork, just a little?  ;)

Mmmhm.. Jeff let me guess..

Simeoni certainly knew and admire the work of Saul Bass , ther is no doubt.
In Italy , for the first issue of Vertigo had not been used the original design but right one of Simeoni, completely different. This is why I like to think that with his Deep Red 2fogli Simeoni has wanted to make a tribute to the maestro as a partial compensation..
would be a nice story, isn't it? ;)

It would be... yes it would. :)

Especially since Simeoni was a fan and admirer of Bass's work.  clap

Orfeo, do you have an image of the Simeoni created, Italian Vertigo poster?

It would be great to see!   ;)

The comparison with the work of Bass is difficult, maybe impossible, styles are too different.. but I love this too: great poster!

If any of you understand italian, here is a video-interview with Sandro Simeoni in his studio in Rome. He talks about his career, his problems with censorship (12 complaints suffered!) and of course shows some of his most famous works. Enjoy!

While very different, the Symeoni is beautiful-- Novak and Jimmy Stewart look incredible. thumbup

I like it very much.  clap
