I have set up a new website that provides specific information and research material on Australian Movie Posters in an easy to read format .....
http://www.ozefilm.com

The site is an addition to my retail website http://www.moviemem.com and is a compilation of information that I have acquired through many years as a collector and dealer.

The origins of Australian posters are not always easy to determine. Much of the research material is based on my own experience as a dealer and also the anecdotal evidence from people who have worked in the industry. I have met a great many of these people over the years.

The site allows for comments to be posted so if you disagree with any of the articles or if you have specific knowledge that you can add then by all means post a comment.

The site has been developed by David Rew - designed by a collector for the collector. If you are interested in setting up a website I can highly recommend David (Silhouette on this forum).

I will be updating OzeFilm regularly and I hope you can take a look.

Regards
John

I will certainly be adding information regularly including more about older daybills that appear to have been misdescribed as originals.

How about an article on Australian lobby cards? Who were the printers and what processes were used etc. Currently there is almost no information on Aust cards.

Yes, good idea. I have a lot of Australian lobby cards. I have a few other articles in the pipeline about Australian posters but will get one going on lobby cards sometime in the not too distant future.

That's pretty cool Mark, is the set portrait style or just a few pieces?

Thats an odd one. I guess they decided to use/convert House of Dracula cards for a Dracula's Daughter re release.

1st Aussie release or whatever it is - it's still one of the best horror/sci-fi daybills out there

Yes, I agree Chris - a great poster. I think it is a first (and probably only) Australian release daybill.

What about Bridge on the River Kwai? Aussie release for the film was March 1958 and both style daybills are by Burton. Were they in business that early?

I just got two new articles delivered to my email box, another interesting read (a couple of) - good to have such really useful stuff all in one place, thanks John www.ozefilm.com

Seriously, if you like this sort of thing then I recommend you sign up for the auto feeds (the articles are delivered to your mailbox by Google not the website).

Not a bad effort from a guy who has had "man-flu" for the last 2 weeks...

Thanks David
I have added two articles with information on Robert Burton printers and their artists. This company printed many Australian posters from the late 50s through to the mid 80s. Some would argue that the term "artists" is a little generous for some of the posters but the articles explain the hand litho process and provides some little known information on the printer.
