That title style seems to match.

I think if this thread has demonstrated anything, it's how many unknown styles there are yet to turn up!  Great detective work Erik!  Mind if I ask where you are finding this stuff?

Hey Matt.

The style of lettering on that R38 3sh is similar being the upside down U, but on the piece you pointed out initially, it looks like the lettering is against a black background (similar to the R51 material) but maybe it is a bat with wings pointed downward, rather than up? Or, maybe, as you suggested, the title section was created locally, by the theater itself, and put below the image.

I have to do research for work online, at various times, so I have found theses images online from multiple sources.

Jeff

And here's one other shot/angle of the same theater box office that got this part of the discussion going:

I had thought I remembered it being a tall full figure image of Lugosi (but with no woman), but you are probably right Lynn,
It has been forever since I actually saw McLaughlin's 3-sheet in person (which no one seems to be able to find after his passing) and my computer that had all the pressbooks scanned in it crashed earlier this year.

It's been many, many moons since I saw even a picture of the '47 3sht in Malcom Willits Collector's Showcase auction catalog. Lost all those catalogs thanks to the Government Flood and Katrina.  Computer crash, oh the horror, the horror. I can certainly identify with that.  I lost hundreds of high res scans of all my lobby cards due to a hard drive death  :'(

And just so THE MUMMY isnt left out in the cold, here is the Rivoli Theater, decked out for the 1932 release. This is just fantastic, IMO, with yet another 3sh front and center. And oh to have one of those large head cutouts, too!  clap clap:

Bride of Frankenstein (1935), Regent Theater, Sydney, Australia:

White Zombie (1932). While not a Universal production, it was shot at Universal, using rented props and sets from such films as Frankenstein, Dracula and 1923's The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man:

Awesome on both counts Jeff!  I was going to ask for some Mummy material and then you did that while adding Bride and White Zombie to the mix...

Shame there are no Bride daybills or other Aussie paper to be seen in the photos  :(

Chris, what is the poster above and behind the 2 women on the left, do you think? It looks rather long, and I see part of Karloff's (and Clives') names on it.

It's hard to say Jeff - there is so much writing on it I would think it's just a theatre created sign (but specially made for Bride) and not an Aussie poster.

There has to be more of this paper out there in the wild somewhere. These pictures make me want to go on the hunt.

If you look to the right side of the image they have the other three sheet on display as well. Two of my favorite posters on one vintage shot!

Does anyone know if any of the other mummy three sheets are around? I know the one in the shot on the left exists, there is a pretty nice shot of it in Horror Business, but do any of the one on the right exist? Same for the Mummy press book from 1932, can't remember seeing one and am curious as to the contents.

Does anyone have an image of The Mummy 3sh from Horror Business? At some point, I found that a copy of the 1932 pressbook was sold on ebay. :o

There also appears to be another 3sh on that same pillar, around to the right from the one facing front, in the center of the photo. Looks like stills might be attached to it, too.

I believe the DRACULA herald is from Argentina.  Max Glücksmann also did FRANKENSTEIN

This is from the book "Too Much Horror Business the Kurt Hammett Collection". I did not know about the book until reading about it in another thread on this site, hope you guys get commission, and if you are a horror fan as I am I recommend picking a copy of it up. Kurts collection is quite impressive. Amazon has it here http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0810996596/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1354812301&sr=8-1&keywords=too+much+horror+business+the+kirk+hammett+collection&condition=new

Here's an interesting foreign poster for the 1925 version of Phantom of the Opera. I know nothing about it, but the fact that it lacks any credit info (aside from the old Universal logo), is rather intriguing. The phantom character, too, mimics Chaney, but is not him. Perhaps this is a much newer poster  for a later release or local screening of the film?

Could it be one of the Spanish mini heralds that are so prevalent?
