Was it the Bluray box set Matt?

The joy of the Mummy lies more in the atmosphere and cinematography me thinks...

Yes, the new blu ray box set. I think I'm going to watch Wolf Man tonight  :)

As promised... Wolf Man on the 12th.  Yesterday during my daughter's nap I was exhausted, but tried to sit down for a matinee of Vampyr (1932).  I fell asleep within 5 minutes  :P  I'll give it another try sometime.

Last night I watched The Triangle (2009) with a group.  It was good for a few scares... but it was relying too heavily on a (what I'm sure the writer/director thought was very clever) plot device.  However, that only really works if there aren't plot holes big enough to sail a ship through...

Still, some good scary movie fun yesterday.

Triangle was a shocker, might have worked as an episode of the twilight zone, but it wasn't clever, it was cliched and as you say, thought it was clever, reminded me of a primary school kids attempt at a tale with a twist.

I watched House last night... I forgot how ridiculous (in a good way) that movie is!

Yes, the '86 movie.  It had a few good scares for sure.

I'm thinking of doing a Hammer vampire marathon this Halloween.
Only those with Cushing.

Watched the original Last House on the Left tonight. I forgot how brutal some of those scenes are... And it didn't help that I've had a kid since I've last seen it!

Triangle with Melissa George? I really enjoyed that film, it whirred around in my head for quite a while afterwards. At the time I saw it, I was on a bad run of films and it felt good to see a film that generated some discussion and thought with the folks I saw it with.

I watched Cabin in the Woods at the weekend - I can't decide if I liked it or not. I'd probably say just about because of the last 20 mins and the characters that appear, but it's not scary (not sure it sets out to be scary though). Also watched the remake of I Spit on Your Grave which I thought was utterly terrible.

Can't go wrong with that.  I'm still a Hammer newbie... I'd love to hear what else people like.  I've only seen the big three (several times though): Horror of Dracula, Curse of Frankenstein, & The Mummy.  I don't think I've seen any of the sequels yet or any of the others... Curse of the Werewolf, Phantom, Gorgon, Quartermass, etc...

Yes, that's the same Triangle.  I thought it was good... I was just a little disappointed that it relied SO heavily on that plot device, which in the end came off like a lot of hand-waving.

I agree with your Cabin in the Woods assessment... a little too clever for it's own good.  As for a movie trying play on your preconceived notions of a horror film about kids visiting a backwoods cabin -- I thought Tucker and Dale did a better job in that regard.

Matt - you definitely should check out the Quatermasses (particularly Quatermass and The Pit)

Agreed, quatermass in any form is a must see.
For me the non horror hammers are the best, but that might be because the horrors were always available, whereas it's only been recent years I've been able to see many of their other stuff. The hammer noir collection is great.
Also their non monster stuff like THE ANNIVERSARY, or PARANOIAC, HYSTERIA, really top notch .

Do I need to watch the earlier ones before seeing and the Pit?  Or can that be viewed stand alone?

WTF?  It's not available via Netflix!  The good-ish news is apparently there was a remastered blu-ray that was just released in the UK.  Only good-ish as it's region 2 and not playable in US players!

Can be standalone, I'd rather domin order though. What I like even more is the British quatermass tv series' from the 50's. but I just never want quatermass to end. Apparently the first series was rest aged recently(ish) which I am yet to see.

You inspired me to watch quatermass II BBC TV series 1955, amazing how they shot and broadcast live.
Note the first quatermass tv series, also shot and broadcast live, only the first two episodes survived. Such a shame. What's even funnier, is when they previously broadcast live television serials, they would reenact it if they wanted a repeat screening, but quatermass they recorded on 35 mm, thank god.

Don't make em like they used to.

Firstly, Ted you certainly can plan a evenings viewing, I may join you. Saint Peter is a class act what ever he's in...

Matt, if you've never seen any of those films, your in for a right treat.
I always think the Quatermass's can be viewed in any order, as can most of the other Hammer films, but the Dracula and Frankenstein series's MUST be in order of release...

And don't shy away from Amicus, Tyburn, and some of the other Studio's that produced Horror films. Have you seen any of the Corman/Poe pictures...?

Watched The Ghoul (1933) tonight... I liked it quite a bit.  And what great UK 3-sheet posters!
