zest it glue dot remover
« on: August 16, 2012, 01:17:38 PM »
as bestine isnt available in the UK
i did a bit of digging to find an alternative and just tried some of this today to remove some old tape from a poster.
the tape has burned the paper so its now transparent, zest it didnt seem to have any effect!
waste of £4 then! haha
just thought i should let anyone else know who was thinking about trying it.
I don't know much, but i do know what my eyes are telling me!

Lighter fluid is quite the ticket, I've used it many times.
It's best if you get it in the can that squirts rather than the pressurised ones...

But if the paper is already deteriorated to the point of being transparent all you can hope for is taking some of the 'stickiness' away...the paper is already done for

It doesn't stain the paper?  I  thought being petrol based that it would.

I don't think it's Petrol based, maybe methanol, I will check. However there is No stains to the paper, you can't tell anything was there, or had been there. I was very sceptical at first, until I watched a fellow do it to his Curse of the Werewolf d/b Quad.

It is more difficult to use on new shiny posters, as the paper isn't as porous; But a bit of patients...

Please don't try this on people, it is highly flammable

Confucius say "Poster collectors who do their own restoration with lighter fluid often get burned"

Lighter fluid used to be benzine, but that turned out to be a carcinogin. they changed it to a naptha based solvent years ago.

Here is a comment about products I researched in another thread. During my investigation I learned the products with the citrus extracts were not so effective and could leave marks. Heptane is the best product I came up with.
