Framing help!!
« on: June 22, 2012, 03:52:03 PM »
Hi there,

I'm new to collecting original UK Quad posters and wanted some help in framing. I've had some rolled ones framed no problem but I've recently got an original nightmare on elm street folded quad. The poster is almost mint condition with no fold wear. The framer I use had a special picture iron and has offered to iron and flatton the folds. My question is shall I let him do this or should I just have it framed as is and keep the original folds in? I don't want to de-value the poster in anyway and I'm worried ironing the folds out my do so.

Please help

Thanks

Post some pics! ;D

I wouldn't iron out any of the folds. I would keep it as is, if you said its near mint anyways.

I would think that when a poster is folded, the paper fibers are stretched along the fold.  Not sure how "ironing" would shrink the paper fibers.  Would love to hear from a restorer or two about this.
I'll raise a glass to the illusion but drink to the reality.

Here's a link to a pic of the Quad.

The white lines towards the bottom are camera reflection and not fold wear.

I currently have a folded quad in my quad frame. Looks fine that way to me.

Frame it as is. If you dont like it, you can always change it.

I don't want to be a downer but it looks offally shiny and the title is more yellow than ones I've seen... What are its exact measurements.... anybody else got copies to throw up for comparison...

unless I am missing something, DON'T IRON, it makes the paper 'change" goes brittle, just put it under something flat larger than this with weights on top and flatten out them folds.

Especially on a glossy poster like that!

It is ok if you turn the iron selector dial to the 'Poster' position, and make sure to spray some starch evenly over the surface of it first as that will help keep it flat: useful afterwards when you want the satisfaction of cracking it over your knee.

I see you Aussies have those new fangled future irons!  Cool!

Don't panic! It's 100% real! The title in the picture I posted looks yellow and the camera is making the quad look shiny but the title it's a dark orange in the flesh! The same colour as all the other text. Did loads of research on the yellow text issues and passed on a rolled version because of the yellow text it had. It's the real deal! I'll post more pics over the weekend but it's real.

It's not glossy, it's a matt finish like my other quads. It's the camera making it look glossy. I'll post more pics later for all you doubters.

Hello Elvis,  Don't listen to these guy's, it's most definitely an original...

Now do listen to them, ;) ... don't do anything like Ironing it.  Put something heavy on it for a few days before you frame it, and it will be fine.

Oh and welcome aboard, you seem to have great taste...
