Renato Casaro Collection
« on: February 15, 2010, 11:50:35 PM »
So I always thought I liked Renato Casaro, without ever knowing how many posters of his I actually had.  So I put them all together, like I did for Struzan.

Here's the result: http://www.eatbrie.com/Casaro.htm.  There are many more, which I'll try to find soon.

Wow! Lots of posters that I have liked for a long time there, and I didn't know.  I really rely on folks like you to keep track of the artists.  I'm clueless about that.

My favorite is:

Hey, T. You need to adjust your Casaro collection. The Flash Gordon poster you have included is the American one-sheet design by Richard Amsel.  This is the Casaro version... very nice indeed.

Yeah, this is the Japanese version, which I have on my site.

I wasn't sure about the other, but I think he worked on it a little.  Check his website (http://www.casaro-renato-art.com/).  There are a few versions that look like the Amsel version.  Not sure who copied whom.

Here's an early Casaro that I really like...

The man is an absolute legend. I think his best work happened in the 80s and early 90s for the German and Italian markets while the US was tooling around with photography.

Without him the Lou Diamond Phillips triptych in my office would look more like this;

I have this Italian 1P for King Kong by Casaro - wild art!

I think that is one of the best King Kong posters, period!

All three are great, Tob but this is my favorite.
You should also post it in our Casaro thread.
It is awesome.
 cheers

Thanks Ted! Didn't spot this thread until I saw your post and hunted for it. I love his work that has been posted above, a great artist.

Here is one of my Casaro posters. I'm pretty sure it's the UK one sheet as it has the same snipe that the quad has ("The Evil Dead and The Evil Dead II are available on video from 10th May 1993 RRP £10.99"). It's the same art as the international version but the main differences are the tagline and the one I have is double sided (the international is single sided I think).

In case you miss it from the general forum:

After many months of preparation I've just published the latest Film on Paper interview which is with one of my favourite artists, Italian-born Renato Casaro. He was responsible for thousands of posters over a 40 year period and his art was used around the globe to market a huge range of films from tiny Italian independents to massive Hollywood blockbusters. I was lucky enough to visit Renato at his house in Marbella, Spain last year where I spent an afternoon interviewing him and was granted a look inside his incredible archive of film poster sketches, art and posters. The article features many exclusive images of his work.

Yes, great Interview! Thanks!
I used to work around his studio in Munich, some 20 years ago, nice man.

I try to make a file with my Casaro posters, but I have so much stuff, it will
be hard to find them all without knowing (lesser known) titles (I can't look at all my posters).
Is there any list out? I don't have a book on him, maybe someone here has one with
a list - if it exists. On certain German artist we have lists of all their posters...

PS: this photo upload option here is crap :). It never works. Or is it because I use Explorer?
