I'm not talking about a collector. Just someone who wants the bragging rights, or nostalgic experience, of owning such a vast collection.
One click and you own it, could be tempting to the right person. I think that's what Miniver is looking for.

$300,000 is nothing for plenty of people.

Here's a USAToday article about $100,000 monthly rentals for swanky homes.

Heaps of people with cash to blow.
Star Wars especially is a great draw card.
We had one guy in Aus blow $27 mill at casino in 1 night. Walked away and laughed about it!!

I just don't see someone buying that entire collection just because they have the money and want bragging rights. I could see that scenario on a single poster (or maybe a small handful) that are very, very, very valuable. But having a ton of posters that range from common to rare just doesn't seem (to me) that interesting of a purchase for someone to blow their disposable money on. Sure there are a few very rare posters in that collection, but they could be obtained individually for far less.

People with that type of money, who want to show off their stuff, want individual items that are easily displayed to impress their friends and colleagues. No one is going to fill an entire room in their mansion with random Star Wars posters for that purpose. Trying to display such a collection would really be inconvenient. For that amount of money, that could buy something much more impressive in the Star Wars collectible arena (like an original screen used Yoda puppet, or something else that was actually in or part of the movie itself).

Just like rich people who collect cars. Someone might not blink an eye dropping $1,000,000 on some super rare antique car, but I don't see them spending that amount just to have one of every single model that Ford ever made.

I think the only hope of that lot ever selling as a complete unit is for some die-hard Star Wars poster collector to win the lottery and be just completely reckless with the proceeds.

If you had $50 mill in the bank, would you buy them?

Me personally? No. I could think of better things to do with $300,000, regardless of how much I had to spend. And if you only have $50mil, and you would be willing to spend $300k on something like an overpriced set of posters, you won't have $50mil for very long.

I would definitely be more willing to buy some expensive posters, but I would still rather put together my own collection than by one already assembled.

Outside of the idiot "nouveau riche" people who win/inhereit/etc. their money and lose it all in a matter of months or years, the people who do spend crazy money on stupid crap (like the earlier example of the one who lost $27mil at a casino and laughed) do it because they have a steady stream of more money coming in. Just like the Saudi princes whose families get billions a year on oil revenues. They make more money then they could possibly spend, so they have no cares in the world.
