Gavelsnipe-it Toolbar rocks my world
« on: June 04, 2012, 03:18:21 AM »
So after missing out on the Bride card, I decided I better do a search of eBay and see what else I might be missing.
I actually saw a few cheaper items to bid on, so I went to Gavelsnipe to set up the auctions and saw their new Gavelsnipe-It Toolbar.
Wow!  That thing is super easy - have any of you guys checked it out?
http://www.gavelsnipe.com/gavelsnipe-it.php

You don't even download anything, I just dragged the link to my toolbar and was ready to go.
So when I saw something on ebay, no need to cut and paste the URl or look for auction numbers, I just clicked on the toolbar and entered the amount I wanted to bid.
Worked like a charm.

And of course it's free not only for eBay, but for www.MoviePosterExchange.com and some other site called Heritage as well.

thanks, that makes life even easier.

and as an aside,

I tried on ebay and all AOK, then went to HA to see how it would go, I assume it works, but I can't display their pages on this computer, so couldn't test (let alone see their auctions), MPE loads fine. So keep it simple, I know not everyone is on an antique computer like me, but regardless, bells and whistles impress for about 1 second.

oh IMHO opinion of course.

Whoever won it should know that it was going to be a gift for my wife! Bastardo!  ;)

1) That'll teach you to be cheap with your wife.
2) Might be good to realize sometimes wives don't like posters, I have the poster gifts I gave her here, she said she liked them at the time, but for some reason didn't pack them with the fridge, TV and bed when she left ;(

I tried  blah, blah, blah, MPE loads fine. blah, blah blah.

I only saw the important part Ari.  ;)

Seriously though, I was impressed with how easy it is to load up, after years of cutting/pasting and re-typing in passwords every time I made a snipe with my old program (that I had to pay for).

Yeeeeahhhh, about that, if only I was I'd be a far far richer man today ;)

Funnily enough she does like poster, usually she asks tells me to buy a poster for her if she likes it. I can't pick what the hell she likes, I took a stab she would like the aforementioned poster. Over dinner last night I told her, showed her and she then told me she didn't like it at all...so I am back letting her ask tell me what to buy.

Just wanted to note that it appears that Heritage is the one who owns and operates Gavelsnipe.com

I just learned of it a little bit ago when the news turned up on MoPo, and only the most strident Heritage supporters seemed to know about it.

More importantly, the info you cut and paste from that site was added to the site (in an obscure location) AFTER the news was posted on MoPo.

I actually had recently sent them a message, asking them to add eMoviePoster.com to their places they support!

Had I done so, my client list would now be known to employees of this company, which is owned by my leading competitor! And those who bid there have to give their password, so if they bid on both Heritage and eBay then employees of this company would have access to those bidders passwords on both sites.

I am trusting, but there are lots of other snipe programs that work really well, and I don't know of any others that are owned by the auction companies that the bidders bid on, so it seems prudent to me to use a different one. But that's just me.

Bruce.. I can fully understand your trepidations concerning Gavelsnipe and why you would be wary. It is a fair criticism.

However, in case you don't know this, if you wanted to use Gavelsnipe, you would have to stop using extended bidding, which I know is far more important to you than having people be able to snipe. Giving up extended auctions would cost you a good piece of money.

Where does Gavelsnipe cut and paste anything from GoDaddy?

I actually had recently sent them a message, asking them to add eMoviePoster.com to their places they support!

So what sniping company did you end up going with for eMovieposter?
It can't be easy finding one that supports extended auctions, but I would think you already know that.

The info that was added only after the Go Daddy info was posted on MoPo was added to Gavel Snipe NOT on the home page and NOT linked directly from the home page.

It is NOT listed on the FAQ page, even though it surely IS a "frequently asked question".

It is buried on the bottom of the "Terms and Condition" page (after a huge amount of fine print, that surely next to no one ever reads), where it says:

"Notice: GavelSnipe is affiliated with Heritage Auctions (HA). HA invested in GavelSnipe as a third party start-up. About 18 months later when its start-up funding ran out, HA commenced funding its operating costs rather than letting it cease its services. Many of HA's clients were using GavelSnipe to place their eBay and HA bids. HA felt it unfair to its clientele and other subscribers to discontinue the system. The system is operated on its own dedicated secure servers by an outside contractor, with occasional part time software maintenance by one internal programmer. Neither HA nor its owners or specialists/experts have access to any sniped bid amounts until after those bids are actually executed by GavelSnipe."

As to working with Time Extended Auctions, my query to them was to ask them to make a program that placed bids 5 minutes before the end of the auction (which should be easily do-able since you can usually set the length of time before the snipe is placed). It would not work like an eBay snipe, but it WOULD allow bidders to bid at the maximum time, 5 minutes before the end of a time-extended auction.

I see a HUGE conflict of interest, but then again I see a HUGE conflict of interest with Heritage owning some significant portion of grading companies like CGC. Does Heritage have an ownership interest of any kind in Todd Spoor's company?

I couldn't find one. If one exists that will set it up for time-extended auctions on eMoviePoster.com, and if it isn't owned by an auction site, I would like to know. When you auction a million dollar poster someday, you may regret that Heritage could get full information on that buyer and you may wish you had gone with a different company (unless of course Heritage has partial ownership of your company). Who ARE the owners of Movie Poster Exchange?

Ari! I told you to stop spilling our secrets.

We are a registered company and ownership is easily discoverable.

I also believe that other than Heritage we are the only LICENSED movie poster auction company.
Why someone would violate the law and auction without a license I don't know...

Not smearing anyone.

We are the new auction kid on the block as it were, so I think it's important that people know we willingly subject ourselves to some of the harshest auction regulations in the USA. Most states have laws requiring the licensing of companies that sell items for auction (for example Nevada is not such a state), and since we don't have a 20-year history of auctioning to stand on, it's important to know that we take every step we can to operate with transparency (like you we make bid histories available so you can see that you are bidding against real people) and within the law.
To further this effort, we have partnered with a third-party company so that people can feel fully secure we do not have access to their bid information (even though we can't even see bids placed through our site).

You have implied multiple times now that Gavelsnipe is sharing our customer information with Heritage even though that would be illegal and there is no evidence whatsoever to support that accusation.
If you have some evidence to the contrary please present it and I will put it into a lawsuit against Gavelsnipe and Heritage.

Our "about us" page very clearly states who the two principals of our company are, Heritage has nothing to do with us.
