Emovie Poster Archive

The Emovie Poster Archive has dramatically improved lately and is on par with Heritage's (although IMO Heritage's Auction Archive overall still has a more modern and more streamlined website infrastructure):

That is a high compliment from you Mel, both because you have done some great stuff on your sites, and because you were always the Auction History's harshest critic!

Please suggest (through e-mail to Phillip) specific suggestions on how to further improve it.

We don't have tens of millions that we get from outrageous "buyers premiums" so there very much IS a limit on how much we can spend, but we do our best (and it amazes me that the database from a tiny company like us can be the equal of a billion dollar company!).

Anyone else have concrete ideas? Send them to phillip@emovieposter.com.

I echo Mels thoughts, the history search is much improved. Pleased the photos are now with the prices. I still though find the small change to remember the auction listing ordering the best fix yet.

One thing to add: EMP's stone-age-Internet logo really needs to be updated.

EMP should sponsor a contest for a new logo - something clean, cool, and modern:

And some others need improvement too.  MoviePosterExchange's new logo?  C- (at best)

Metal and neon-like characters were modern in the 80s Mel...

Touche - that metal logo ain't too great but it's more like early 2000s. This is more 80s:

I would just like to not have to log in twice.  Once for the regular auction pages and then if I go to my want list I have to log in again...

It would also be really cool if you put a link on an active auction that would bring up past results so I didn't have to navigate to the Auction History page and search for it there and and then come back.  Or you could take something from Espresso Beans (sp?) and figure out how to put a chart of previous sales and then as and adding sales pitch put trending up or down...  You have the data with all the right variables to do this... You could even make it dynamic with toggles for condition, folded/rolled, and whether it was backed, etc for the title and RR data for that poster...

I think,in general, that any site that requires me to log in several times is a good thing..If i was surfing on another persons PC,I would expect to be able to confirm my id.

Hey Mel

Thanks for posting that pic.
Without it, I wouldn't have even thought there was the picture display (clicking on grid instead of text)

Thanks Mel!

I disagree.
This is a simple, identifiable look.
Uncluttered and powerful.
While it hasn't been around long, it is already recognizable.
I give it an 'A."

I agree with Ted, it's a good looking modern logo.

+1.

This design is clean, has strong color, a "solid" font and it makes a statement.

Dont change a thing on this, Sean.  thumbup

Really people, you're all dullards.  Show a little creativity.  It's a VISUAL hobby, so the logo should be more than just text.  Something like this (putting aside copyright issues of course):

Show some flair - at least 17 pieces! - along these lines....

Mel, when designing logos, it's all about clarity and simplicity. One of the few things I remember from my design student time is a simple method to see if a logo works. If you can clearly read/understand it in very small sizes and in black and white, you are in the right track.
Complex backgrounds, lot of details, textures, pictures, visual effects on tipography, etc are valid resources for other pieces (like ads) but are rarely seen in logos.
