Opinions needed on Kong 3 Sheet B poster

An online acquaintance is considering buying this Kong poster and I thought I would ask for some feedback for them since you guys have been helpful in the past.

You'll have to load more pictures and scroll down past a few images of a bowl to see the poster. Yeah, there are some nasty condition issues. It's been trimmed, has a bunch of paper missing and is glued to a board. Possibly fixable with restoration, but probably not worth it unless it's an original release. I don't think it is, though. The RKO insignia is on the bottom right instead of the left like the reference images I've seen online. King Kong was re-released in theaters many times and I'm not sure if there are reprints, later editions or fakes of this poster. All I know about the source is it is part of an estate.

So what do you think we're looking at here other than a real mess?

Perhaps it's the 3 sheet from a later re-release.





And the pressbook 3sh image from 1952 has the same art of Kong, but the bottom art elements are different:

Isn't this it -- duo-tone R53 style B three sheet?  If so in addition to the trimming and paper damage, it looks pretty severely faded.

Even with the condition issues, if your friend can get it for a really good price, maybe he/she should go for it. Im sure there arent many of these floating around out there.

Well.. he uses Elmer's Glue and sharpies or pencils stored in rusted cans that he sits on the poster...

Not sure what the asking price is, but the size and fact it's glued to a board would probably make shipping prohibitively expensive. But if it were cheap to ship I totally would. The humor value would make it worth the $125.

Thanks.. and you also confirmed what it looked like in your pic, that it's glued to a board of some kind.. 

Who knows..maybe it was Mssr. Cloutier and his Elmer's Glue wielding wife who attached it to that board in the first place!!

Adding up all the necessary work - the fact that it's trimmed, has tears, creases, missing areas, etc., and of course is mounted on a board - that would be a heckuva restoration. 

It is a rad piece, though.

This is a 1956 3-sheet, not a 52.
So it's definitely worth more than the 52 (if it was in the same shape), but I agree that this would be about a $1500-2000 fix-it job and just not worth it.

LAMP ID's this pressbook as being from 1956 - and the 3sh looks different. Or is the pressbook mis-identified? I had found this same PB image and posted it above, from a source saying the PB was from 1952.

yes. that is probably the 1952 poster though as 1952 is less colorful than the 1956 paper
the 52 1sh is pink & black
