Mike's German Posters THE DIRECTORS
« on: April 29, 2012, 06:09:26 PM »
Here I will post Directors I have collected over the years. Some like Zinnemann or Sturges won't be included here, their films are spread out among the stars /actors they worked with. Expect film makers like Kubrick, Wilder, Preminger, Lean, Coppola, Frankenheimer, Polanski, Siegel, Aldrich and many more.
But to draw some attention I'll start with Russ Meyer :)

oh boy, photobucket really deleted two MEYER posters for nudity. Is that an American company ? Prudish 1950s behaviour is always good for a laugh over here  :D. And I wanted to post all my Kristel & Gemser posters in the future ... guess they would delete them ALL.

Guess not many RWF / SIRK fans here. You're missing something, it's not just about paper :)

Maybe Italia ?
Some Fellini / Antonioni / Visconti / Pasolini. LA STRADA is a highlight.
I included the complete set of 36 lc's for BLOW UP which is rather scarce (complete).

One of the best, DAVID LEAN. Highlighted by the LAWRENCE double panel (Quad).
I included the outstanding German lobby card set of 49 cards. The first one,
the portrait card, was manufactured and handtinted for me by a talented friend in 1994.
I always thought the set was missing a portrait :), no. 50 so to speak.

I never put these films together as David Lean... I don't usually pay attention to directors.  Maybe that is why I like Passage To India and couldn't quite figure out why. One of my favorites of all time is Kwai; wither that or Alec Guinness is a subconsciousness favorite..

I guess how one 'puts these films together' is of no importance really. As long as one appreciates great work :)

I'm a film maker, therefore I've always been into Directors first, actors second (most of the time, not always of course.).
Especially Directors with an own style, like Polanski, Peckinpah, Leone, Hawks etc.

Lean has the b/w period with outstanding work (Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, Brief Encounter ..)
and his color period, many call them 'epics'.
I guess LAWRENCE is one of the best films ever made. I watched it 10 times over the last 30 years. And never
dates, and since its restauration it is even become better than it was in the first place. Masterpiece.

I could never immerse my self in Peter's acting in Arabia...  I always felt it forced and awkward...  I've watched it a few times and always thought something was off...  The movie was amazing though.

Outstanding, Mike.
I've always been fond of the RYAN'S DAUGHTER art, the perspective and scope is special.

Question of taste I guess :)

I love him.

Just saw THE RULING CLASS the other day for the first time.
Oh boy :) Only the British could make (and finance) such a film..

Watch him in The Lion In Winter. He nails that in a HUGE way.
