2 small frame questions
« on: April 14, 2012, 09:32:40 AM »
So.. i have a few newer posters i wanna hang up on my wall. These are newer quads and 2010+ releases. Could i get cheaper frames(carboard or chip board backing) an put acid free board behind them. I was told the newer posters are 100X more resistant to de-composure than the 80s down. I just dint wanna have 5-20.00 buck poster with 150.00 frames.

Thanks what I do with most of my frames .. I buy the frame then a large 40x60 sheet of black acid free foam core and cut it to replace the wood backings. Id just be careful on sizes. Sometimes the frames say one size but can be 1/8-1/4" short of that and the posters dont fit. :(

Other than the color is there any real difference between the black and the white foam core board?  When I bought a bulk box of white a noticed the black but it was always more expensive, and I didn't really see the purpose of it when it's being covered up by the poster.

Then again, we bring up deterioration. So getting quality foam board.

But what about fading? and the quality of plexi?

So much things to factor when framing.

I prefer the black just because I can "float" prints that may not measure up to standard sizes of some off the shelf frames.

i was questioning and well that was the question :-\ my Godzillas or my other posters,  I have archival HW Poster frames. I just dint wanna pay 100+ for a 20 buck quad,  I know micheals and Walmart has like 20.00 frames. Speaking of deterioration, i heard that the newer posters, with the glossier finish have more resistance to decay and fading.

If its 20 bucks and easy to find. Then by all means, go with the cheaper option.

Humidity, lighting all play factors as well.
