Hi,

It is what it is.

I marvel at the (comparative) daring that went into the Black Swan campaign where only the three colours offered synergy between the various offerings.  Designs and fonts all being completely unique unto their own poster.

The Bonds are currently all stuck together by Empire Design (they have an office in London)  (Please note, I use the words 'stuck' and 'office' as being completely unrelated to anything, design.)  I am aware that the posters of old had to tell a complete marketing story that, due to TV spots, youtube, vlogs and the rest, no longer should be considered the posters' sole marketing responsibility.

That said, and this is not specific only to Bond, if the complete marketing thrust is no longer dependent only on the poster, then surely, this should give a degree of freedom of movement for some real designers to stride forth. And this Can be photographic.  It does not have to be drawn art.

In terms of Bond, Michael G Wilson (the producer) is himself a photographer.  I am amazed he signs off on this shit that currently and recently advertises his product.  If I had spent $200m on a 'product', then I would be all over this face of advertising.

To be frank, I am at the point where I really think the Bond poster need not be anything more than a construction of 'James Bond', '007', and the 'Title'.  Black on White.  The rest is completely redundant from an Inspiration Inducing point of view.

Thanks a lot Simes. Very interesting reading. I didn't know the producer was a photographer! I wonder  if those are his photos to save himself money!

I asked because although I am not a Bond film fan I like all the fuss and glory that comes with it. And lately their posters are everywhere and I am rather disappointed. They used to be quite edgy (to me) and now are...uhm..boring (!).

I can see your point about the posters (just lettering and nothing else). But then again..Bond is about Britain...(Great) not (boring) :P  I wonder why they cannot look out for new talents out there to make the artwork more interesing.

Anyway...thanks for letting me know. Founded v interesting!

I'm a huge Bond fan from childhood (grew up with Moore though my personal favorite is Connery) and I like Craig's portrayal. He's great with the physicality, arrogance and violence inherent to the character.  He is also strong with the characters overall damaged psyche though that has rarely been addressed with previous actors. Daniel Craig has benefitted from strong movies in general. I don't find his Bond as suave as past characterizations. He a little too intense and humorless at times though that does fit the tone of his movies. He does feel like a natural successor to Timothy Dalton.

I'm also not a fan of recent posters. They're repetitive which I understand as its a film series. But they're also usually just a photographic image of Daniel Craig holding a gun which I find unimaginative.

Not to be outdone, I have now picked up a set of the banners.

My word, they are big.

I have also not come across a DS IMAX quad poster yet.  They seem not to be in existence, unlike the teaser version.  And even the teaser, I have still to date only seen two for sale, be they DS or SS.

The 1 Sheets seem better represented by IMAX in both Coming Soon and November 6 variants.

Hi all.  Been away for a while so please forgive if this has been brought up...

Do you think that with SPECTRE coming out that the price for Bond posters right now (and other memorabilia) is a little inflated?  Anyone remember if vintage bond poster prices were affected around Skyfall?

For sure.  At the same time, this is the time sellers part with pieces you might not see very often otherwise.  So it works both ways.  I just bought a Live and Let Die 10 photobustas set fir something like $400.  I overspent, but then again it was in mint condition and God only knows when I'll see another one.  So be it.

Am sure inflated prices for all tentpole pictures is the same.

The only reason I purchase when I do is that there are one or two variations that come and go very quickly, never to be seen again.

For Quantum, there was the undated final version 1 Sheet.  For Skyfall there were a few with obscure months suggesting its release and at least with Spectre, there is one b/w advance Coming Soon IMAX that I saw one of, didn't manage to acquire, and have never seen since.

Can I just say that Rosa very kindly popped a message through to me asking if, before she posted these, I was about to bid on these in case I was hoping for less interest and potential competition.

I must state that I get more information and entertainment from this forum in what IS posted than what is not.  I will always advocate just getting on with the business of sharing information as this is what I wholeheartedly subscribe to in the internet ethos of free information - even if this is in detriment to one specific auction process.

Thank you very much, all the same Rosa.  Very sweet of you indeed.

Where are these currently up at then?  All look very nice.  After all, I am a boy!

Had a quick look and the only film posters auction seems to be an Online-only variant.  Within which, I see no Casino door posters...??

What am I missing?

Before Skyfall Bruce did a 50 year anniversary auction with some nice posters....here is the results page for that auction

And it seems Heritage has followed suit with their latest Signature auction loaded with Bonds

Thank you. I tried to find other versions, just for my own benefit but failed.  It looks very neat. I do like the overall design. He is wearing a nice Savile row suit :P

Never seen it before...!

Must admit he looks a bit strange now that his image has been lipped, making him left handed as opposed to right.

If these Chinese posters are official, then I find these bloody delicious.

Empire Design, they of the 'man in the middle of the poster and naff all else going on' mode of design, take note.

Agree with you Simes, I like both of those designs too, thanks for sharing.

Mondo recently shared how they wanted to release the Skyfall OST on vinyl with some artwork by Martin Ansin, but EON said no thanks and released it with the standard photographic design. I suppose they're very strict on the consistency and content of the marketing message. I guess that whilst the box office $ continues to be massive, they'll stick to that plan. Perhaps they'll cock up the casting after Craig, the numbers will drop off and their tactics may change!

I still haven't sussed yet whether they are original, in the official sense of the word.

If not, they are the best fan designs I have seen, like, Ever.  If official, about bloody time too.
