locandina glue remover?
« on: March 26, 2012, 07:37:08 PM »
has anyone tried out any chemicals to release the glue on snipes on locandinas?
funny thing is it dosnt seem all that sticky, not as though its been welded on.
it seems as if it would just about come off but its just out of reach and wants to pull the surface off, GAH!

i only have a few with snipes, but they all seem top be the same(ish)
although i presume there wasn't a "special" glue just for the one job country wide!
any clues would be helpful, as i see LOTS of locandina with horrible big scuffs all over them and i dont want to add more to the world!
I don't know much, but i do know what my eyes are telling me!

Do you mean Bestine Bruce?

Or is Bestine just a brand name for benzine?

Best to try to avoid Benzene as it is a carcinogen. Try a product called Bestine or anther adhesive remover that contains hexane instead. Some have said lighter fluid works also.

Benzine IS an explosive that can easily kill you, but is a great solvent.

Bestine is what all the restorers use. It too can kill you, but not as easily.

And it WILL remove virtually any adhesive known to man, without harming the paper at all.

I think most of these Italian snipes may be water based...  They looks too have been our on by wetting the back as the paper around tends to wrinkle... I just buy one with and one without if available.  I like the snipes.  It's the damn Scotch tape they use to post the show times that piss me off...

yeah i'll bet the first demo would kick ass!
but then they sold out because they did a split 7" :(

im not sure "bestine" is available in the UK? there are lots of chemicals that we are not allowed to have in this country in case we blow up the houses of parliament etc.
im guessing that lighter fluid is what im going to have to try?

thanks y'all ;)
