Looking for Garbo
« on: March 03, 2012, 11:42:41 PM »
I'm looking for a studio still I'm guessing its probably an 8x10 (or thereabouts) of Greta Garbo, based on what we already own of her I suspect this image is circa 1933 around the time of Queen Cristina.

I've had a pretty good hunt but have not been able to find that specific image and it's apparently not showing up in any of the auction histories that I have searched on.

Another one earmarked for framing so you'll understand if I say it needs to be Fine or better.

thanks
David

"Someday, and that day may never come, I'll call upon you to do a service for me."

This is what you are seeking.

Always check doctormacro.com for great vintage photos....

Hey David,

I'm assuming you are looking for an original, vintage still, taken at the time, and not just the ability to print off a modern high res copy?

Yup - it would have to be an original vintage still, just wouldn't be worth having otherwise, well it would but not the same.

I believe that is one of the more famous images of Garbo - if you find an original, studio still, I would assume it's going to be several $$$

But maybe you are prepared for that already ;)

I wasn't aware of that - my wife saw it in one of the scrapbook from the '30s we have on her (magazine cut-out), said she loved it and being married, I just nodded quietly and began the search...

I have a few Garbo stills but that ain't one of them.  This still may have been offered in one of the Profiles In History auctions a couple years back and is certainly from "Queen Christina".  It was most likely shot by C.S. Bull and as Chris said, if an original pops up, expect to pay a few hundred dollars!

It's a good question...one for Mel, his link!

Assuming it is from the movie As You Desire Me then it really narrows the date down whereas before I was only making an educated guess (based on items we already own), it doesn't make it any easier or cheaper to find but helps narrow the field of search.   :)

That image will print at 8.5" x 10" at 200dpi.

Here are the other Garbo pics from the "Annex" section of that site.

Was looking through my Garbo stuff and happened across this page taken from a magazine (about 1935/36) which I have scanned for your amusement. I think it is cute and somewhat indicative of the times.
